Nice place with good amenities - laundry, kitchen. Upstairs was broiling hot even after running the small AC unit for several hours. This was late June, I cant imagine later in the season.
Fun ... hope you like the KISS band, and others. :)
Fun, very eclectic décor (bigtime 70's Classic Rock Band kitsch). Quiet sleepy neighborhood, which is nice. It's a place to sleep and has the basic amenities. A bit spendy for what it is, but I guess everything there is. Owners seem like fun and nice people.

Not family fiendly
Sexually explicit material on walls. Not family appropriate.
Although I had seen some negative feedback - We were very satisfied with our experience. This is not the Grand Hilton but it was a mountain cabin, close to town and able to accommodate our large group. The yard is LRG and had room for our RV. the teens played Frisby in the front yard, we had a big fire in the firepit at night and there were lots of beds for sleeping. We will definitely use rent this again in the future. If you are looking for the Hilton this is not your kind of place - but the price was great and owners were super easy to work with.

Ok
Miss communication with owner, but she was very rude to my elderly GMA for no reason she was snappy.
Do yourself a favor and pick a different place. Heed all other reviews. I didn't read the reviews before I hastily booked due to last minute accomodation needs. While ithe rental has potential, this place shouldn't even be allowed on VRBO in its current condition. The owner completely denies the unhealthy and unclean conditions despite our correspondence (and all other reviews).

basic and not clean
the place was basic and chintzy as shown in the photos. It was not clean, the fridge was foul in the lower bins and the garbage was left over from the cleaning process. there was clean laundry. It was left in the dryer. Fortunately this was just a place for 4 guys to crash on the way to a trailhead. I would never try to cook here or stay here for anything more than an overnight
The cleanliness of the place was appalling, with blood-stained, unwashed sheets and towels that were clearly neglected. The white pillows were discolored with yellow stains, and the entire place emitted an unbearable odor. However, the most disturbing aspect was the presence of explicit sexual decorations that were completely inappropriate for children. I strongly advise against staying here if you value cleanliness, comfort, and a family-friendly environment.
When we arrived it smelled musty, was 90⁰. Upstairs bedroom unbearable. We attempted to sleep on the sofas. Messaged host, no response. We left at 6am the next morning instead of finishing our stay. Texted to say we we leaving early and and again no response. Tiny 8 inch frying pan only in the kitchen, making eggs for 4 a bit difficult. Portable air conditioner was useless. We opened windows and put a fan by them. NOT really an air conditioned rental. Strange decor to boot.

Good Bones
Truthfully...
It's time for NEW towels, pillows and beds. The cobb webbs on the rafters and some walls were just a small sign of a need for better cleaning. If someone has allergies....the dust is going to make your guests miserable. Ok! Bitter pill over.
The cabin has great potential for a quality stay. It has great bones for a small family or two couples. The lawn space is large enough to keep the neighbors from your windows....nice! It's also in a quiet location close to town. The living room furniture is in quality condition and comfortable. The kitchen is well designed and easy to use. We spend most of our time outdoors seeing the sites.
Thank you for your hospitality.

Not as advertised
I didn't want to write a negative review but the owner gave me no choice. I addressed all of the below issues in an email to her after our stay but received zero response...not even an apology. Renting this cabin was a spur of the moment decision for us and was only one available for the weekend that allowed pets so we reserved it, after the owner confirmed to us that it had air conditioning. The days we were there it was very hot and we have four small children and two dogs. The day before we left, however, the owner informed us that she incorrectly thought the cabin had a/c but it didn't. We were upset but didn't want to cancel and disappoint the kids so we agreed to take it. We also really appreciated the owners honesty and gave her the benefit of the doubt. She had provided a bottle of her homemade wine in the fridge for us which we thought was a very nice gesture, even though we aren't big wine drinkers.
*There was a large, melon sized hornet nest on the front porch. We were forced to use the side door during most of our stay to avoid being stung. There isn't any wi-fi/phone line at the cabin so we couldn't notify the owner. We used bug spray several times before the bees deserted it.
*The master bedroom had a huge adult-themed poster with cartoon pictures above the bed and on the night stand were Ken and Barbie on top of each other. I have four small children who easily could have walked in and seen that; very inappropriate for a family cabin.
*The ad advertised a working hot tub but it was broken and not even connected. We were very disappointed.
*The bathtub was dirty with black hairs and dust balls and the bath mats looked like they hadn't seen a washer in quite a while. The floors were quite dirty, also, forcing us to clean as soon as we got there. Not what you want to do on your vacation.
*The house was infested with ants, requiring us to store all of our dry goods in the small fridge.
*Due to the heat, the upstairs room was unusable for the majority of our time.
We have stayed in Packwood before at a different cabin with none of these issues. Again, I notified the owner of this and gave her four days respond because I didn't want to write a negative review but she didn't. She was very prompt with our security deposit refund, though, which we greatly appreciated. This cabin could be a cute getaway if the above were remedied.

Response from VrboOwner on 6 March 2020
Catherine, I am very disappointed in your review and wanted to respond to you. This cabin is our own personal cabin that we love so much and have decorated it to our liking. We get excited when we get to share it with guests because it is so unique. We never advertised it as a "Family Friendly" Cabin even though it is. We advertised it as a Rock-N-Roll / G I Joe cabin. I would be very disappointed if I rented a Rock-N-Roll cabin and it didn't have some sort of odd or craziness to it. It is also advertised as a G I Joe cabin because my husband loves his classic toys and we feel it adds to the fun of staying there. The add clearly states that there is no phone or wifi provided. It also says that there is a pay phone at the Chevron Gas Station and that there is free wifi at the library, both coffee shops and the tavern. In regards to the air conditioning I am so sorry. We just bought this cabin and I did not understand the difference between central air and a/c. I know now. There were 2 fans provided in the cabin. I realize it was hot that week but there is nothing I can do about that. As for the ants I just don't know what to say because I still can't find one and I have never had anyone complain about ants or bees. I did have it sprayed recently just to make sure. Also I personally checked this house before you checked in and it was spotless. This cabin has been completely remodeled. It has new paint, new floors, new carpet, new countertop and great appliances. Also, all the sheets, comforters, towels were purchased for this home. They are all new and this home has only been rented a couple of times. Your complaint of being dirty is completely out of line. As for the hot tub, the heating element went out and I had to order it from San Diego. It clearly states in the rental agreement that we do not guarantee any of our hot tubs. The nearest parts store is 2 1/2 hours away and renters are very hard on hot tubs. We do our absolute best to make sure that things are perfect when someone checks in. Clearly this is not the cabin for you and your family.

Great location but dirty and odd decor
I will start with the good... because there isn't much--
Pros:
- location is great
- lots of parking
- nice porch with chairs to relax
- lots of beds to accommodate people
- washer/dryer
Now for the bad... and this is just the main things my group wanted me to highlight--
Cons:
- kitchen was dirty including walls, utensils, drawers, etc.
- stairs into house are loose and a safety hazard
- stair railing going upstairs is also loose and a safety hazard
- the periodic table of sex poster in the downstairs bedroom is inappropriate for a rental... along with several decor items throughout the house (if you have kiddos - DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE)
- rugs on the main floor are ready to trip anyone and cause injury
- there's a weird stale smell throughout the house
- BBQ grill was extremely dirty
- bathroom door has to be slammed shut to get to close all the way
- outside doors to enter house are hollow doors used typically for bedrooms/closets
- bed sheets and towels had stains
- lack of communication/expectations when the fire broke out. The owner didn't answer any of my concerns or questions when I was trying to be proactive since I was hosting a group overnight. Instead, I received a response of, "fires aren't anything new around here. Not all reports are accurate." I'm a PNW native and live in WA. I understand fires are normal. However, at the time, the east side of Packwood was on a level 3 evacuation (get out now) and we didn't know what was going to happen to Packwood. Also, after sending the current reports from the first service, I was still brushed off.
I was NOT impressed at all. I stay in several rentals a year and this is one I will definitely not be going back to or recommending. My group was extremely thankful we only stayed one night. You're better off booking a hotel or a different house. The group I was hosting is from a community of 125K women hikers. I usually send out the link from each rental I book for events because ladies typically rebook for their families or other events. This rental will not be shared.
We had a beautiful weekend with stunning fall color at Mt. Rainer. Love the Packwood area. Brewery is excellent; worth the short trip into town if staying here.

About the host
Hosted by Stephanie Emtman
Hi, our names are Johnny and Stephanie and we currently live in Packwood. We have a daughter that goes to school at White Pass and we love our little town. The 3 of us are avid skiers. In the winter we ski and board White Pass and in the summer we ski the local lakes. If we are not skiing then we try to hit the trail horseback. Renting our cabin enables us to live in Packwood. We love our cabin and am sure you will have a great time in this place we love so much.
Why they chose this property
After being raised in this community we knew we always wanted to live here. This neighborhood is usually extremely quiet and has family friendly neighbors.
What makes this property unique
The Rock-N-Roll memorabilia, the ski chair and the G.I. Joes gives this cabin a fun twist. There is plenty to check out when you get here.
