About this property
The Karoline: Old World Charm In A 2 Bedroom 2 Bath Beauty By The Charles Bridge
This newly renovated, fully-equipped 2-bed and 2-bath apartment with a living room able to be converted into a bedroom on the 1st floor(2nd floor US) of a historical neo-gothic building just around the corner from the Charles Bridge is for up to 8 guests, and at the same time caters to a smaller, more demanding group or family that wants to have Old World style but in a modern, functioning flat. There are three connecting rooms: the master bedroom with king-size bed(180 cm wide), the living room/sitting room with fireplace(bio-ethynol means real flames but no smoke), cable TV, and a large pull-out sofa, and then the large bedroom with two king-size beds. These rooms all have their own entry/exit doors, so privacy is not a problem. The large master bathroom has a tub/shower, toilet, his and her vanity sinks, and a washer and dryer concealed behind a decorative side panel. The second smaller bath if also fully equipped, with a small sink, shower, and toilet, and both have heated floors. Complementary WiFi works throughout the flat. The fully-equipped kitchen is perfect for making large meals, or even just for a coffee and small breakfast in the morning. Iron and ironing board, all towels and washcloths, and extra bedding are of course provided. Smoking is not permitted in the flat, but we have a small balcony which is perfect for that. We think that you will appreciate the level of detail that Mark & Mirka put into the flat, from the choice of linens for the beds and selection of furnishings (we have two art nouveau chairs in the kitchen) to the extensive restoration of the ceiling décor and the matching chandeliers. We have really focused on trying to preserve and enhance as many elements from the original construction as possible.

Thanks Kevin, you glad you enjoyed your Old Town stay in Prague, take care.
After an unfortunately long queue at Prague airport I contacted Gilina to arrange the meet and key collection. Upon arrival I was surprised and pleased with the welcome gifts of wine, beer and some basic essentials. The apartment is beautiful. It has everything you need and is very well located for a lot of the sights. The communication with Mark was great and he was available to answer any question promptly.

Amazing property! Perfect location!Located within the Staré Město the apartment is the perfect spot to explore Prague. Walking distance to any of the Old Town sights as well as the Charles Bridge. One block from the Karlovy lázně tram stop - tram service in Prague is easy to use to go anywhere. Apartment itself is beautiful. Contact with the host, Mark was easy. Hosts even had some drinks and breads waiting for us. This was perfect for our first trip to Prague! We will be back and would definitely stay here again!

So glad The Karoline enhanced your first impression of Prague, we were more than happy to host you in the heart of the Old Town. Come back soon!

Host met us at the apartment. Spent considerable time going over details of both the apartment and the city. All of which made our stay more enjoyable and productive. The apartment was spotless, the rooms warm and inviting. The kitchen was a great size and came with local treats supplied by the host. The neighborhood was perfect. Right in old town, but not smack in the middle of the tourist flow. Plenty of places to eat. Highly recommend.

Our family loved staying in this perfectly located, clean, well accommodated home. The hosts were thoughtful and gracious and I would highly recommend!
This was a beautiful apartment in the heart of Prague's Old Town area. Everything is within walking distance. The host was extremely accommodating, ensuring we were met in person at the apartment when we arrived and even included a handful of basic items (soft drinks, beer, some light snacks, etc) to ensure we were comfortable. We traveled as a family...2 adults and 2 children. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable place in a prime location in Prague.

Thanks Victoria, we did our best to maximize the charmy-ness of the old flat, and luckily the great location is what really motivated us to remodel the place and offer it to renters. Take care!
The host was attentive and responsive. The accommodations were centrally located at the edge of Old Town so everything was within walking distance. The flat was true as advertised w/ old world charm that stood out as the host had restored much of the premises while simultaneously providing the updates required by modern society. Would return in a heartbeat!

Take care, Mark
This is perhaps my most favorite stay ever. The hosts were so generous leaving me amenities in the fridge like wine, milk, butter, juice and beer as well as some food and homemade strudel. Mark checked on me a few times to make sure everything was going well. The location is so good…walkable to many sites and stores. The apartment is spacious and well-equipped with heated bathroom flooring and wonderful light. I LOVED this place and would absolutely return. Prague might be the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen!

Oh wow, i see you really liked the place :)
In any case, we like stocking the place with some basics in the refridgerator. We know how it is when travelling-- the last thing you want to see after a long trip is an empty 'fridge! And my wife likes showing off her baking skills and using up the apples from our garden, so it's a win-win!
Take care!

We had a wonderful stay in the apartment - it was perfect for our family of 5. Mark was wonderful and arranged round trip transport for us. We had someone welcome us to the apartment and show us around and we even had some snacks and drinks ready which was so kind and made us feel very welcome. Everything was just as described in the listing and even better because we didn’t want for anything while there.

Thanks for the honest feedback, but the instructions for the washer/dryer are in many languages(most European languages, incl English) and are located in the TV cabinet. Our apologies if we didn't make that clear during your check in and will keep in mind for future guests. Take care!

Great accommodations in the heart of Prague. Spacious flat for two couples with everything you need. A perfect location within walking distance of everything you want to see in the city core.
We loved this well-stocked and beautifully decorated apartment in Prague. I could not think of anything that it's missing. 2 bedrooms (1 with two double beds!) and 2 bathrooms were great incluing a true primary bedroom. We would happily return to stay here again.

That's great to hear, April. Yes, the location is one of the best things about the property-- right in the middle of everything, but on a relatively quiet, cobblestoned street.
Come back soon!
Beautiful apartment in great location. Mark is a great host who was very responsive to our requests.
Apartment was perfect and contained everything we needed for our stay.
Apartment was as charming as described. Great location.and decor. Well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. Very clean. The cafe below can be a bit noisy at night, but if it's cool enough to close the windows, it is very quiet. Overall, a great place to stay, and Mark is a super host.
Mark Grein is originally from the U.S., but on a chance trip to Europe back in the nineties, he was enchanted by the magical allure of Prague and decided to set up shop here, right in the middle of central Europe not long after the Velvet Revolution. He and his wife Mirka are filmmakers, but decided to try their hand at renovation when they bought this beauty in the heart of the Old Town last year. They did much of the renovation work themselves, especially in restoring the original ceiling stucco decoration, spending many hours up on a ladder covered in wet plaster and paint, and with Mirka handmaking much of the decor, like the floral patterns on the fireplace mantle and cabinets.
Why they chose this property
We knew we had something special when we first set eyes on this diamond-in-the-rough. All of the doors in this residential building have wooden entrance doors or portals that are decorative pieces unto themselves. One inside the flat, we saw that the elaborate but faded ceiling decorations were just screaming to be restored, and the original owner had left many of the original details in this old place, such as doors, door handles, parquet floors, windows(including original glass in some of the windows-- look closely and you'll see the tell-tale 'waviness' in some of the panes). The layout was perfect--- three connected rooms, but all with their own entrances/exits, a large and separate kitchen, along with a small balcony. Located on the 1st floor of a neo-gothic buliding just around the corner from the famous Charles Bridge in the heart of the Old Town, but on a side pedestrian street, it just felt like the right place. We think you'll agree :)
What makes this property unique
As with all properties, 'genus loci' is the most important thing, and this flat has got it in large amounts. It is the perfect place to begin and end a walking tour of the beautiful city, and the quaint street has many great cafes, fantastic wine bars and restaurants, and even though it's close to the famous bridge, it's managed to hang to a lot of its local character.
