About this property
A beautiful place to unwind, in luxury and seclusion
The Edge of Paradise is a true gem and a one of a kind tropical getaway villa. Nestled on the edge of world-renown Magen’s Bay in St. Thomas, it is a unique combination of charm, luxury and privacy. The seclusiveness and natural beauty of this property are what make it so extraordinary. The property includes approximately five-hundred feet of prime ocean frontage and its own beach, just a walk down the steps. Our villa looks over a pristine coral reef that flourishes in these crystal clear Caribbean waters, teeming with life. There are very few rental homes in all of the Virgin Islands that can compare to our property as a charming and luxurious tropical retreat, with its own secluded beach and reef. As such, it is a very special place for families to unwind and share a memorable vacation.
Our views of the stunning waters of Magen’s Bay are truly exceptional. Magen’s Bay is a treasured Virgin Island nature preserve and, as such, has no hotels nearby and very limited residential development on its shores, particularly its western shore. Magen’s Bay Beach is a magnificent natural landmark that stretches for over a mile along the south end of the bay, renown for its white sand and turquoise waters. Behind the beach stands a tropical forest, which gradually rises up a mountain, filled with lush vegetation and fascinating wildlife. This beach was recognized as one of the top ten beaches in the entire world by National Geographic.
The Edge of Paradise sits on the west side of the bay. Our villa is the most proximate residence to Magen’s Bay Beach on the western shore, just a short kayak paddle away. Yet, because a dense tropical forest and a rugged rocky shoreline span between our villa and that beach, we are exquisitely secluded. This is just one reason why we believe our location is ideal. In addition, we appreciate that the waters of the bay are calmer and more protected than any others on the Island. This tends to make the water clearer and safer for swimming and snorkeling, especially important when kids are involved. Thirdly, we cherish the beautiful coral reef that thrives along the western side of the bay. This reef is quite isolated and not readily accessible to beach tourists, and so it remains pristine. No other reef exists in the bay; the rest of the bay is predominantly sandy. It is quite uncommon to have a secluded spot where adults and kids can wade out into an ocean that has a colorful and fascinating reef right there to explore, in clear Caribbean waters that deepen very gradually .

About the host

After a thorough search of properties throughout the Caribbean, we purchased this one in 2012 and introduced it into the rental market in 2013. The property was meticulously designed by a married couple to be their ultimate dream home, and the elaborate landscaping and construction work was completed over eight long years. After having refurnished the home and having made a number of modifications to make the villa an extraordinary rental property, we now share their vision and paradise with our guests, and look ahead to our retirement there.
Why they chose this property
As alluded to earlier, we found the Edge of Paradise to be a true gem and a one of a kind tropical retreat. For us, it was truly 'love at first sight'. Many rental villas in the Virgin Islands offer gorgeous views, but few are on the waterfront. And most of the waterfront villas are atop steep cliffs overlooking rough waters that are not readily accessible or swimmable.
We never imagined that we could find a spot that is so utterly beautiful and so secluded, yet situated on a widely renowned bay that has one of the world's top ten beaches. Even more amazing was the reality that the villa sits so close to the water level, has its own secluded beach, and has a flourishing coral reef directly in front of it. There is no place we would rather be!

What makes this property unique
For families that want to make their vacation even more relaxing and unforgetable, we can arrange for an in-home spa day by having a masseus visit you in the villa. Similarly, we can secure the services of a personal chef to make gourmet meals, and a captain to take you on a sightseeing or fishing excursion. We can even combine the two!
You should be aware that power outages do occur on St. Thomas and the other Islands, sometimes happening several times a week, for prolonged periods. Our villa is equipped with a powerful heavy duty generator, located away from the house so as not to be heard, with an automatic changeover switch that takes over after 15 seconds with no power. When you consider renting elsewhere, you must consider this. If your rental property does not have a generator, you risk the possibility of being without wifi, television, refrigeration, running water and air conditioning for periods of time, and that could be inconvenient.
Sometimes we hear horror stories about renters at other villas who have their long-awaited vacation ruined by various problems. We are very confident that this will never occur at Edge of Paradise because of two reasons. First, our villa was described by our home inspector as the best built property he has seen on the Island in his six year career here. Also, our property is managed by Gena and Brian McHenry. They are the most personable, knowledgeable, and responsive people one could ever hope to meet. They live nearby.
