About this property

Gorgeous cosy dog friendly Nidderdale cottage built 1780 short walk to shops

A truly unique and romantic place to stay, but don't just take our word, please read the many 5 star reviews from our guests who comment on the character, location and how well equipped the cottage is. The cottage is pet friendly with a dog towel, bowls and leads in case fido's forgets his luggage.

There is so much to do within walking distance of the cottage, so why not stay for 7 nights and save on nightly rates. The location is perfect for walking, and cycling. You may already know Pateley Bridge was a key location for the Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire. The Nidderdale Way goes within a few yards of the cottage, as well as walks nearby at Brimham Rocks. For those of us less energetic York and Harrogate are a short drive away for shopping or why not visit the many places of interest such as the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey which is a 10 minute drive.

Built in 1780 for the head gardener of Bewerley Hall, the cottage is warm and cosy , full of character and original features, and is only a few minutes walk from Pateley Bridge with its range of quality independent shops and cafes.

The cottage is perfect for either a short break or a fortnight stay. With views over Nidderdale from the rear of the cottage and the cherry tree lined village green to the front. The outlook from every window is perfect. The gardens to both front and back are the ideal place to sit and sip a glass of wine.

On arrival you enter into the cottage by the sun room with views from its windows across the stone flagged courtyard over the dale. You then go into a contemporary style kitchen with the stone staircase in the corner and exposed ceiling. Lots of appliances and handy supplies such olive oil, salt and pepper , foil and cling film, so no need to pack the kitchen sink! Another door leads off to a large boot room with WC and washer dryer, a perfect spot to dry damp clothes after a day's hiking, or to rub down your dog.

One step from the kitchen to the sitting room with a large log burner sitting in the stone fireplace, wooden ceiling, comfortable sofa and leather library chair. There are books, maps, DVD, CD and WiFi is also available along with an iPod docking station. It is then up the stone steps to the romantic bedroom with a king sized bed dressed with Egyptian cotton bedding. Finally the large en suite bathroom comes with walk in shower and slipper bath, complete with luxury toiletries.

Outdoor there is garden furniture in both the rear and front gardens so you can soak up the sun. There is also two off street parking spaces so no need to worry about your car if you decide to spend a day walking.

Charming house in a great location

Pateley Bridge is a perfect small town for a base to explore the area. It has everything you might want: a baker, good pubs and restaurants, two butchers (one a prize winning pie maker). And a fish and chip shop. Yorkshire heaven. The cottage was perfect for us. Just the right size and superbly equipped.

A delightful Cottage

Delightful beautiful cottage in an outstanding picturesque location. The cottage was very clean and well equipped, especially liked the comfortable king size bed with luxurious bedding. There is everything you need for your stay for two people. The welcome pack is excellent with lovely little treats! The owners have got everything just right. We will certainly be back sometime to enjoy the cottage again and all that Pateley Bridge offers !

Accommodation wants for nothing.

Having stayed in Patley Bridge many times this accommodation has to be the best we have encountered. The provision of a welcome pack by the owners was a welcome bonus. The place is exceptionally clean on arrival. The inside area is spacious too. Our last day was a tad wet so after a short wet stroll it was just nice to sit and relax in the sun room with the doors open taking in the view and fresh air.

Cosy cottage

A quaint comfy cottage; well equipped but sadly windows were dirty and the gardens overgrown and untidy. Bed linen good but duvet cover was very creased and needed to be ironed.

Charming cottage

This is an absolute gem. It’s set in a pretty location and has everything you need for a relaxing break. Thanks for the welcome goodies, lemon drizzle cake is a definite favourite, and even treats for Marlo 🐶. Fishpond wood, only a few minutes from the cottage, is a hidden treasure and delightful this time of year with the bluebells. The cottage is a good base for exploring the dales and moors. Would definitely recommend and hope to go back in the future

Absolutely Perfect

I cannot stress how lovely this cottage is….it’s amazing. From start to finish, Nigel has been an excellent host…thank you. The cottage has everything you could ask for and it’s so ‘romantic’. Great location for loads of walks, Harrogate, Ripon….with nice local pubs snd restaurants too. Clean, tidy, well equipped and the welcome pack was 1st Class. Would we recommend? Yes….100% and will certainly return. Thank you Nigel and Denise for a great break x

Wonderful

Just had 3 nights with the hubby and our lurcher. The cottage was beautiful and clean, warm, cosy and comfortable with everything you need. Communication with the owners was spot on. Lovely area and only a 10 minute walk into Pateley where there were lovely shops, restaurants and a couple of pubs although we only ventured into the Royal Oak which was just at the end of the road. Great walks for the dog too. The wine, ales and cake were a lovely touch and sitting in the room overlooking the courtyard with the lights on at night was wonderful. I'd highly recommend a stay here, thank you to our hosts, Nigel and Denise x

Outstanding!!!

Bewerley Hall Cottage had everything we needed plus extra treats including beer and wine to help us settle in for first night. Nigel and Denise were well organized for visitors from overseas who don’t understand how British appliances and house systems work. They quickly responded to our questions and provided an update on the best local walks. Bewerley and Pately Bridge have good restaurants, groceries and petrol on hand. The Cottage book contains everything you need to know. The Cottage is in high demand so reserve early!

A little gem!

A beautiful cosy period cottage with all the modern touches you need, a real home from home. Thank you for the lovely cake, wine, beers, milk etc, we didn't take our dog but there was collars, leads, ball for throwing and bowl's if you'd forgotten them, everything you need. We had a lovely few days in the picture's village, Pately Bridge, only a few minutes walk away with it's lovely oldie worldie high street and fabulous foodie shops. Pork pies from the bottom butchers were great, as were the cakes and bread from the Bake House and lovely real home cooked food in the local pub's (beware the portion sizes! make sure your hungry). Lovely friendly people and a great base to explore from, taking in Harrogate and York, it was a shame we couldn't have stayed longer. Thank you Denise and Nigel for eveything

Cosy Country Cottage

After a long drive up from London, the cottage was a perfect resting place. Nigel's instructions were spot on, and I had no problem finding the cottage and only a little trepidation upon parking for the first time behind the cottage. (After which time I had no problem negotiating my car to the parking spot.) Although I was on my own, I can see how the cottage would be a perfect nest for two. Even on cold, wet days the sun room was a nice spot for breakfast. The sitting room is comfortable, and especially with the fireplace going, cosy and warm. Even without the fire the cottage is a very comfortable temperature. I appreciated the notebook full of manuals to help negotiate the running of the cooker and washing machines. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking gear as well as the welcoming tea, coffee, sugar and milk (as well as a local cake) upon arriving. And to make the kitchen ready to use from the get-go, there was olive oil, salt and pepper plus foil and plastic wrap, and plenty of cleaning supplies. The staircase up to the large bedroom and bath might be a bit steep for folks who are a bit unsteady, but the handrails work just fine (and there's a little "coo" on the landing half-way up for encouragement). Speaking of the upstairs bath -- what luxury! There is the enormous soaking bath tub and a large walk-in shower. As a bonus, you get a great view over the fields from the bathroom window. I have to say I was also well pleased with the utility room (which also has a toilet and sink in it). It was a great place to dry damp things, but also a welcome "relief" for those times one didn't want to have to go upstairs for the convenience. The cottage is well located for those who love country walks as well as its proximity to the delightful village of Pateley Bridge. It's also a great staging area for trips around the Dales. And when I wanted to go farther, I drove to the Harrogate Rail Station and took the trains. It was a comfortable distance for night driving afterwards. The pub at the bottom of the hill (The Royal Oak) is within easy walking distance, warm and welcoming and serves great food. It's also an invigorating walk back "home" afterwards. I was very sorry to have to leave the cottage, and I look forward to returning to Bewerley again in the future.

Breathtaking

From start to finish Nigel and Denise were on hand . We could not believe our luck with the well dressed rooms . Goodies which were thoughtful choosen for all of the guess . The bed was so comfortable and inviting special after a long days driving and walking . Even the bathroom had bath salts and hand made soaps . If we return to North Yorkshire we will definitely rebook the amazing cottage. Even the neighbours and locals made as feel at ease and welcomed. Thankyou NIGEL and Denise you are 10/10 for hospitality and luxury

Beautiful period cottage

My husband and I and our two spaniels really enjoyed our stay at Nigel and Denise’s beautiful cottage , we based ourselves here for the great Yorkshire show, just the right distance to travel each day to the show. The cottage was clean well equipped, the best nights sleep we’ve had in ages as the village is so lovely and quiet, but close night to partly for a stroll in the evenings. Great place to base for walks, beautiful rolling hills all around. Communication with the owners was exemplary and we knew exactly what to do on arrival and leaving, our car( pickup ) was a little too big for the parking space , but easily parked on the road an minute from the front door. The secure court yard was great as could let the dogs out anytime. The weather was scorching but as the cottage had lovely stone walls it was nice and cool inside. We will definitely be back. Thank you x

A Perfect Country Holiday

The perfect cottage in a wonderful location. The cottage has been beautifully restored, fitted out and decorated. Everything just works! The easy access to the pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and shops of Pateley Bridge is very useful, but at the same time one is able to walk from the front door out into the country including several wonderful wooded areas and excellent walks. We could not have asked for more.

About the host

Hosted by Nigel

Host profile image
Nigel and his wife Denise have lived in Nidderdale for nearly 30 years and we share our home with our two labs, Russ and Willa . We live just 10 minutes from the cottage so we are always on hand if needed and enjoy sharing our knowledge of the area.

Why they chose this property

Just visit the cottage and you will know why. Its warm, cosy and romantic and set in a perfect location for walking or just relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Harrogate is only 20 minutes drive away with some of the best shopping in the north of England. Pateley Bridge is the winner of best village high street and is only 5 minutes walk away with its excellent butchers, bakers and small supermarkets.

What makes this property unique

The character of the cottage is unique. We love the front entrance with its gothic style arch. Our guests they tell us they also love the location, because they can leave their car and enjoy so many walks from the front door, yet at the same time be within a few minutes of the small town of Pateley Bridge
