2/10 Terrible

Charming Character, but Not for Sensitive NosesThe décor was wonderfully original – generous, one might say, in its abundance – and certainly not lacking in exuberance. As is not unusual for an old stone house of this type, it hosts a thriving community of spiders – long-standing residents, one suspects, who clearly regard themselves as the true owners. The house was clean, at least at first glance, though here and there it showed a certain well-worn patina. What we, at least, found genuinely troubling was the intense and rather pungent smell of damp cellar, which no amount of airing could dispel. Regrettably, we therefore cut our stay short after just two days and sought alternative accommodation. In our experience, this is by no means typical of old Breton stone houses – rather an exception, and simply an unfortunate choice on this occasionWe did mention our experience to the owner in person, but her response, alas, showed neither understanding nor any willingness to consider our concerns.
