Sweet Retreat!

Our family of five had a wonderful stay. Property owner Brenda made us feel very much at home. We loved waking up and drinking coffee in the rocking chairs on the front porch while we overlooked the pretty creek directly across the street. The charming house is newly renovated, decorated beautifully and impeccably clean. The fire pit in the yard is perfect for making s'mores!

Getaway weekend

Five of us stayed at this wonderful location across the road from Penns Creek. We spent a large amount of time fishing in the creek (bear den entrance to creek to the left as you face the creek) and we have explored some native brook trout streams in the area. Caught a variety of fish (not trout) in Penn's creek and had fun with fly fishing. Cooked on grill and had a fire out back in the fire ring. Saw Eagles, Osprey's, and other birds while enjoying our weekend.

Cozy & clean

Loved just hanging out on front porch watching the creek. Everything inside spotless (most important) with comfy bed upstairs. Didn’t try the others. Location very good with lots of good places to eat and enjoy the scenery. Loved the Rusty Rail, Jack Ass Brewery and DC Coffee & Tea. Food and ambiance amazing. Also took a ride on the Pride of the Susquahana which was about an hour away but perfect for a hot day. Brenda said she owns another property in Berlin which we will check out in the future.

Great host and lovely home!

Very clean and comfortable home! Beautiful area with creek views. The host was very accommodating and helpful, and we loved that everything you might need in the home is provided. There was plenty of soap, detergent, cleaning supplies etc., and some pantry basics. There were even some unopened toothbrushes in case you forgot them. My child loved the comfortable bunk bed and the toys. There were lots of butterflies and fireflies around the property and we enjoyed the nature sounds from the porch and back yard. A lovely getaway!

Really Great Place To Stay

Hard to say much more than what has already been said. We really enjoyed our stay here at the cottage while dropping our son off at school. It is a bit out of the way, but driving 20 minutes into Lewisburg was not a problem at all. Everything in the cottage was comfortable and new so that is a definitive plus. The upstairs bathroom is still under construction and when finished will be a huge bonus. We didn't have an issue with using one bath, but the second will be all that much better. We did some fishing right across the street in Penn's Creek and caught some pan fish and small trout (all released). Brenda is a pleasure to work with and we look forward to coming back to stay again.

Wonderful Stay for a PSU Game Weekend

We looked at so many different options for accommodations for a Penn State game and visiting our son who attends there. This ended up being the perfect place. The price is very reasonable for such a lovely, clean and comfortable home. The creek is really pretty. The bed was so cozy, the upstairs bathroom is like a spa and the downstairs bathroom is well designed and functional. I can't overestimate the convenience of two full baths. The kitchen and sitting area had all we needed. It was a very easy 45 minute drive in the AM to the south parking area for the game. I didn't time the way back, but we seemed to avoid all of the real traffic. We enjoyed the nearby Rusty Rail Brewing Company. We only needed to contact Brenda once, but she replied right away. She also left chocolates!

Nice cottage

We stayed at Bear Den from 9/11-9/14/20. The house is very nice inside and the front porch is awesome. We made a fire one night and enjoyed that. The one thing we didn’t realize is that you can’t fish directly across from the house. You must walk to where the fire ring is next to Penns Creek or drive down the road to a small park, where you can get into the water to fish. We were under the impression that right across the road would be where we would fish. Not a deal breaker by any means but people might want to be aware of this. The house was clean. I did wipe all surfaces, doorknobs, etc., when we arrived just for my peace of mind. I normally do that anywhere we stay, but was extra sure to do it this year. We spent the majority of our time sitting on the porch watching eagles and blue heron.

I am a wife and mother of three active boys who love to fish and kayak in the creek. I am also a school counselor in one of the local schools. I am originally from Levittown, outside of Philadelphia. I attended Neshaminy Maple Point.

I am an HGTV addict which inspired me to take this "too rustic " cabin and make it beautiful.

I attended Bloomsburg University, Indiana University, Bucknell University, and completed my doctorate at Liberty University.

I want all my guests to have a relaxing, comfortable stay.

Why they chose this property

This vacation home is named the 'Bear Den' for a reason.

This cottage has her own story. I purchased this property and had it completely renovated. I walked by it everyday as I walked my dogs along the creek and always thought about the lovely view it had. It was an "unkept" cabin that no one had ever lived in it. The story of the home is that it was built to be college housing at a college in Virginia. It was prefabricated but it didn't make it off the truck properly and the college refused it. A gentleman in Central PA purchased it and put it in it's current location. He began to work on it but could not finish due to a shoulder injury. So, unfortunately, no one got to take advantage of this home and lot. I called him and asked if he wanted to sell and he did.

We named it the 'Bear Den' since during it's many years of being uninhabited, a mother bear and her cubs hibernated in the crawl space underneath. She surprised some men working on the road one winter. Now her story is legend around the neighborhood. She is still around but don't worry, she hasn't used that space in years and there is a now a door securing the crawl space. We had to name it the 'Bear Den' since she was the first true occupant.

I had everything torn out down to the studs including the insulation and added a second floor loft to take advantage of the sites. The layout is simple, open and comfortable. There is a sense of calm in this cottage.

What makes this property unique

It is a lovely country setting along a lazy wide creek in a location with interesting sites to visit. The water view and sounds can be enjoyed on the front porch or by taking a walk along the road. The creek brings wildlife such as beautiful blue herons and eagles. It has a relaxing feel but still includes modern conveniences like wifi. Come and sit on the large front porch overlooking Penns Creek.
To add to the beautiful views from the cottage there is now a separate waterfront lot that renters can enjoy. The waterfront lot is deeper than what is right in front of the cottage. This wider lot has a fire circle.
