Badia Vecchia Apartment

English-style mansion built in 1939 by the rich old owner Sir. Robert Pretty Barlow, admirer of beauty and good living. A precursor of modern gay culture, he hosted writers, painters and illustrious travelers. He himself a traveler, helped to make Taormina known to many of his countrymen and others.
The apartment is located on the first floor of the house in a very central and panoramic position, overlooking the Etna, the Bay of Giardini Naxos and the Badia Vecchia, one of the most significant monuments of the city.

Badia Vecchia was everything we wanted and expected...even more! Furio & Paola were fabulous hosts - welcoming and orienting us, helping with (too much / too heavy) luggage, being sure we had plenty of water and coffee, providing restaurant recommendations, both in Taormina and our other planned Sicily stops. This stay was even more than we could have hoped for. The hosts were excellent communicators, both before our stay and during. They helped us coordinate parking (think valet service - and they were quick!). They met us upon arrival to walk us through the apartment, provide restaurant recommendations, and even made restaurant/attraction calls on our behalf. They really went over and beyond! The apartment is super comfortable; they even provided us with water and espresso pods. The location was a short walk to restaurants and shops, but in a quiet neighborhood. This is a WOW stay.

Furio and his wife were such great hosts, arranging parking for us and giving us loads of recommendations in Taormina. The flat itself is perfect and you can walk into the busy part of town, or you can stay over on the edge and actually interact with locals.

Amazing views and location!

Our hosts were terrific! They suggested several places to eat and all were great. The location is superb for visiting Taormina - a three minute walk to main area. Wonderful stay!

Absolutely amazing stay in Taormina!! Furio and his wife made checking in and finding parking for our car completely seamless. The apartment was in a perfect location to access all of the sights in Taormina and was well equipped, including water and a mocha pot for coffee. The host also recommended great food stops in the city and even helped us get a reservation last minute after check in. Would highly recommend!!

Upon our arrival we were met by the property owner Furio who spent time answering questions and giving us insight into places for grocery shopping, laundry, beach and restaurants. He made himself available for any other questions for the duration of our stay. Definitely would recommend this place.

We appreciated the host Furio helping us with parking and giving us an orientation to the apartment and area. He also helped with recommendations for restaurants. The apartment is in a great location, close enough to all the “action” but far enough away to be a nice restful place away from the crowds.

If this place is open, book it!!Hands down one of the best VRBOs I’ve ever stayed at in my lifeTaormina is on a hill. This place is perfect location to grocery/wine store and the main shopping street. The living room is perfect for four people. It has a couch and two very comfortable chairs.The eating table has comfy chairs. The outdoor patio table is comfortable.Key fob entry is easy. The place has more outlets than you need, which is rare. I love the switches next to the bed to turn off everythingEverything in the place works!There’s a window 20 feet up in the kitchen that lets in light and opens with a switch. It is on the main street, but the car traffic is pretty much stopped around 10 o’clock and doesn’t start up again until about 6:30. The windows are thick. The noise is low.Every room has their own thermostat… including each bedroom and the living room. All the drains actually drainThere is no musty smell. The beds are fabulously comfortable!!Plenty of tp and paper towels and a lot of coffee (Mini Kuerig) and teaThey supply oil, balsamic, and spices. Some new and never opened. I slept with bedroom door open one night. The breeze was fantastic. Wore earplugs. You can see Mt Etna from the bedroom doors. The place is on the path to the Castillo di Mola. Just climb the equivalent of 80 flights. The hosts are so nice and were so helpful. If I’m ever come back, I will book this 120% for sure

The apartment was clean and nicely decorated. It accommodated 4 people with ease. The beds were especially comfortable and the kitchen whilst compact was easy to cook in, we esepcially appreciated the coffee machine which made very nice coffee.The location was very convenient, close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets, etc.Furio was lovely and helpful, making great suggestions for restaurants (we really loved restaurant Malvasia!!!). As well as advice on the best beaches, the best way to see Etna, etc.

I highly recommend the Badia Vecchia apartment. The location is amazing. A very short walk to the ‘main’ street. It was clean, well stocked. Bed was comfortable. Very close to a grocery store, restaurants, walks/hikes into the hillside. Furio is a wonderful, helpful, and very friendly host. He really wants you to have an amazing visit in Taormina. He recommended several places to eat, go have a drink, get the best granita & even made reservations for you. Def recommend and hope to get back soon. Thanks for everything!
