The Shippen is a pretty, 2-bedroom, stone-built, holiday cottage sleeping up to four set in the tranquil historic town of Fowey in Cornwall.

The pet friendly cottage is one of a small cluster of barn conversions nestling in the heart of two and a half acres of Lawhyre landscaped gardens.

Completely surrounded by fields, yet only a short walk to Readymoney Beach, this secluded cottage offers a relaxed self-catering holiday location in one of Cornwall's prettiest coastal towns.

The Shippen is a detached single story Cornish barn sympathetically renovated into a cosy cottage. It has thick stone walls, exposed beams and central heating, providing a homely setting all year round.

The cottage is equipped to a high standard and boasts a large, bright open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area, a bathroom and two bedrooms sleeping up to four. The bedrooms include a good sized double and a nice twin, which is accessed via the main bedroom.

Outside, the cottage has its own individual private garden with lawn, hedge and stone walls - offering a secluded and safe space for both children and dogs. The beautiful flower and shrub borders, gravel patio and garden furniture make an idyllic setting to enjoy the lovely views of the countryside.

The Shippen is set within well-maintained landscaped gardens, which are shared with the other onsite properties. There is also a large parking area available at the cottage.

The Shippen overlooks open fields at the head of a pretty wooded valley leading to the beach at Readymoney Cove, a gentle 10 minute stroll through trees and wild flowers.

Brochures, maps, guidebooks and information on the locality are provided in the cottage.

Up to two dogs are welcome at The Shippen to accompany you during your stay, please note the garden is not 100% secure so you won't be able to leave your dog unattended. There is an additional charge of £30 per dog per booking. Please notify us at time of booking. Payment must be received prior to arrival.

The house is well equipped and had everything we needed for the week. The only thing we hadn't expected was that access to the kids' bedroom is through the double, making for very little privacy for parents!

Lovely comfortable cottage Perfect location with dog

This was our 2nd consecutive year. As good as last, and although building work started in field adjacent it didn't spoil our stay and owner advised us in advance. Only 10 min walk down a footpath to Readymoney Cove (dogs allowed all year except 10-6pmJuy &Aug). Comfortable corner sofa and beds. Shower mixer good. Friendly neighbours.

A hidden gem

A wonderful holiday.In relaxed mode all week, no complaints, perfect location away from the busy little shops of Fowey. Cottage in the corner plot with view of the countryside was fabulous and not disturbed by anymore.We have come home for a rest we walked many miles daily!! We will be returning summer 2026 for sure!

Delightful cottage in a great location

The Shippen exceeded all our expectations ,it was extremely comfortable very clean and tastefully decorated .The garden was South facing enjoying the sun most of the day,larger than expected with wonderful views over the countryside .Readymoney beach was just a 15min walk away and Fowey 20 mins .Will definitely be back and would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit this part of the country.

Nice little cottage

Cozy little cottage with nice field view. Big enough for a family of four. Fowey is beautiful, lovely pubs just 1.5m away at Polkerries beach. We enjoyed our week.

Lovely cottage

Our second stay here and loved it. Everything you need. Very comfortable and homely. Nice private garden area with lovely views. Thirty minute walk down a woodland walk brings you down to Fowey and there are other walks to the coast nearby.

Very nice and clean cottage

We enjoyed our holidays in this nice cottage, close to the beach and city, just a 20 minutes walk. Perfect for holidays with dogs with the little garden and green environment, but unfortunately dogs are only allowed after 18.00 p.m. on the beach. We can strongly recommend The Shippen, very good service and clean rooms, only the floor in the bedroom we propose to renew, it looks old and dirty.

A little gem

The Shippen is a tucked away little gem. You have everything you need and the setting is quiet with views across fields from most windows. We have been twice ad enjoyed our stay. The standard of cleanliness is exceptional, and any blip is immediately sorted.

Perfect Stay

Lovely cosy cottage with lovely decor and very well equipped.There was also a lovely private outside area. Felt so at home here and looked forward to coming home to it after a day walking in the lovely Corneall countryside. There are lots of local walks if you don't want to use the car and Fowey was only a 10 min walk away. Usually hankering to get home after a week but felt so relaxed here.

cosy place in great location

compact, comfortable, well equipped cottage, perfect for a family and 1 couple but difficult for 2 couples as the bedrooms are connected and the second one does not have a separate access. Great for small dogs as all property completely enclosed but garden too small for bigger dogs. Photo misleading as next to cottage on the left adjoining properties.

Lovely holiday house

We had a great week again at The Shippen I only have a small complaint. We had to hoover the floor as quite a lot of dog hair when we arrived. I know that the cottage allows dogs but it's a bit off putting when it's on the sofa and floor on arrival. Annoying that the people who live in the wooden house opposite the patio, moved their campervan right up to the boundary. Other than that perfect and would come again.

Beautiful Fowey

We had a fabulous week at The Shippen despite the very wet weather. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very well equipped if you are self catering. Due to the clever layout of the cottage there was plenty of space for 3 adults and 2 dogs. The walk down to Readymoney Cove for the dogs was great followed by a lovely stroll into the centre of Fowey. Lots of lovely places to eat and drink. Visited lots of places around Fowey, Cardinham Woods was a favourite with an amazing, dog friendly cafe. We would definitely return. Wood Family

Lovely cottage, amazing location

The Shippen is a great dog friendly cottage, the garden was great, the location is perfect for walking down the lovely woodland path to the beach & Fowey. The only problem was my small Dachshunds could get under the broken gate/fence we managed to block it up with stones from the rest of the garden. One of the dogs also jumped over the wall as it’s quite low but we blocked that with garden chairs. Don’t let this put you off this great cottage.

Cosy, dog friendly cottage

We stayed for a week over Xmas with our dog. The cottage is in a good location, at the top of the village and just a short walk downhill through the woods to Readymoney Cove beach, which is great for dogs and a similar distance to Foweys restaurants and shops. The cottage facilities were good and had everything we needed to cook Xmas dinner! A very social space with open plan kitchen and lounge. The cottage had also been decorated for Xmas which was lovely and the owners had left us some wine and chocolates! Outside was a secure garden for our dog, both gravel and grass. We had a lovely weeks stay and would recommend this cottage for couples with dogs.

House

There was a house being built next door, and they worked both Saturday and Sunday which was noisy. The hob was difficult to use as the knobs came off and you could not tell if you were turning the heat up or down. I could not boil a pan of pasta and then burnt the sauce as I thought I had turned it off but hadn't. Corners of the property were not very clean, with cobwebs. Would not go back.

We are sorry you were disturbed by building work, this should not have occurred during your stay as the building schedule shows work on the neighbouring site does not begin until mid-August with all relevant guests set to be affected notified of the works. In regards to the hob this has been replaced as the current guests let us know there was an issue soon after arrival and we rectified this as soon as we could.

Satisfied, but missed the DVD player

We were very comfortable and enjoyed the views from the property's garden. We appreciated the secure wifi which save us having to take out a VPN subscription. The only comment was we could not find the DVD player the website promised. Perhaps, despite the DVDs in the bookcase, it is no longer there. If so, the website needs updating.

Excellent location, filthy carpet

The Shippen is in a fantastic location, within easy walking distance to Fowey and the beach at Ready Money Cove. It's a super sweet little cottage, with a lovely outside dining space and a small playground. The kitchen and living space were cosy, clean, and well appointed. However none of this mattered when confronted with the disgusting carpets and rugs in the bedrooms and the thin worn towels and bedding. The carpet was greasy, worn flat, and absolutely filthy (I'm talking black stains) and needs replacing. The rugs by the bed were the same, flat, stained and horrible. The bedding was so thin and worn, it felt ancient. I can't believe no-one as mentioned it! It was such a shame and a real disappointment when the rest of cottage was so well kept and clean, but it really put me off and made the bedroom feel really unpleasant to sleep in.
