Courtyard and Upper Garden Area
Immediately outside is the rear courtyard – a whitewashed sun-trap which, during the summer months, gets the sun literarily from first thing in the morning right until the sun sets over the western side of Mevagissey in the late evening.
South facing upper garden – large new split-level, patio area to take advantage of the easterly sea views. This is the ideal area to sit and enjoy the all day long “Cornish sunshine”, sea views and just relax. This upper garden is fairly steep, overlooking the courtyard below and is used entirely at visitors own risk.

About the host
Hosted by Mark

We currently live in the Midlands and love Cornwall and the unique qualities it has to offer visiting there since our childhoods.
We've stayed in cottages throughout Cornwall spending many holidays here before eventually buying Coastguard's View in late 2018 - having renovated it during 2019 the cottage is now available for holiday rentals.
Why they chose this property
Mevagissey dates back hundreds of years with records going back as far as 1313 with further evidence of early settlement stretching back as far as the Bronze Age.
The Coastguard Cottages were built around 1870 to house the Coastguards and their families. By this time in Mevagissey’s history, besides it’s thriving fishing industry, the harbour had acquired a reputation for smuggling – the cottages were constructed on higher ground, not only to provide the Coastguards a good vantage point of what was going on down in the harbour but, apparently, to also reduce the chance of them becoming involved in the smuggling activity themselves..!
Today Mevagissey remains one of Cornwall’s larger fishing ports with over 70 active fishing vessels and was recently heavily featured in a BBC2 documentary series, first broadcast in January 2020, “Cornwall – This Fishing Life”
Tourism to this traditional Cornish fishing village continues to thrive and, with many holiday cottages available in and around the village together with popular holiday parks in the surrounding area, a great deal of the village economy centres around tourism.
The village has a lovely warm and relaxed atmosphere offering many shops, cafes, galleries, craft shops, restaurants and pubs along it’s old cobbled streets helping to create an idyllic Cornish holiday experience.
What makes this property unique
Coastguards View is located a short walk from the harbour and has commanding views over the harbour as well as out to the open sea beyond Chapel Point.
The cottage has several great features besides it's lovely views - it's easy to drive to (avoiding one-way system down in village), we have parking for 2 cars and can accommodate up to 8 people - a perfect location to be able to both walk down to the harbour within 5 minutes and enjoy the quiet relaxation and sea views from our large sunny terrace as well.
