About this property
Unique & stylish luxury apartment with fabulous views & parking. Sleeps 4
Personally managed by the owners with great care & attention to detail the apARTment has views from your balcony to the town & river, a short walk into town & dedicated parking for your car.
This unique apartment is a perfect blend of art, design, comfort and understated luxury to make your stay in Dartmouth as enjoyable and memorable as possible. The apartment at dartmouth-selfcatering.com forms the top floor of our much loved Victorian villa and built on a sunny South facing valley, the apartment is a few steps down from road level and accessed via a footbridge to your own dedicated entrance. There is also a private off-street parking space (gold dust in Dartmouth!) a few yards from the main entrance. It is therefore ideal for guests who are looking for accommodation with easy access & close parking. We regret it is not suitable for small children under 5 years old.
Entering the property through the fantastic front door with its vintage porthole and ship lights you'll find the light & airy kitchen/dining room on your right. With sparkling quartz, worktops the kitchen is fully equipped with top quality appliances including Dishwasher, Fridge, Freezer, Neff Oven, Induction hob, Microwave & Nespresso Machine. Supplied with all cooking utensils, crockery, tea towels & washing up equipment you'll need for your stay. The Dining area with an original Ercol table & 4 chairs is large enough to relax in with 2 tub armchairs and ambient lighting for those special relaxing dinners.
At the end of the hallway is the roomy lounge with wonderful views over Dartmouth looking across to the rolling hills opposite. With two large 3 seater sofas, you can sit back and unwind or snuggle up to watch a movie! Samsung Smart TV, Blu-ray/DVD player and board games are provided.
The first double bedroom has french doors opening out onto a balcony with the most spectacular panoramic views down to the River & Town. With a bistro table & chairs, this is such an incredible spot to have breakfast or sit and enjoy a glass of wine (or two!). The second bedroom is the same size & has a Combi TV/DVD & hillside views from the large Velux window. The other side of the hallway is the bathroom, tiled in natural stone with large walk in shower with Hansgrohe fittings & full height towel radiator.
Being Artist/Designers we have really tried to make this apartment a truly special place to stay with equal attention to both style and comfort. The interior has been strongly influenced by classic mid-century design and Scandinavian style. Throughout the apartment, you'll find a mix of nautical objects, quirky sculpture, vintage signs and original art of course, which we are both so passionate about. Our previous holiday properties were selected for Alistair Sawdays 'Special Escapes', featured in Coast Magazine and rated as excellent on Trip Advisor as a result of the many outstanding reviews and repeat visitors we received.
With this wealth of experience, we aim to maintain these high standards and hope guests will continue to enjoy their stay with us and have the most fabulous holiday!

About the host
Hosted by Theresa and Simon Hart

We are Theresa and Simon Hart, Artist/Designers who both studied at the Royal College of Art in London. Having lived in Dartmouth for over 18 years we originally ran a successful Art gallery, gift shop and 2 other self-catering holiday properties in the town. We have 2 children Theo and Kitty, a lovely Springer Spaniel and an adorable cat who are all part of the team! We now run an online design business, working from studios situated either side of our house so we are always close to hand if you need any help or advice or just want to say hello! Theresa originally grew up by the Coast in Dorset and so after working in Fashion and Lingerie design in London a return to the sea was inevitable. Simon worked as a contemporary artist exhibiting in galleries throughout the UK and his much loved coastal landscape paintings became an iconic signature of the West Country even before he made the move to Devon. Ever since 1999 the house has been an evolving story & with the final phase of the renovation now complete we are very proud of the end result and looking forward to welcoming guests to our gorgeous new top floor apartment. It is such a wonderful, light and calm place to spend time that one day we would like to live there ourselves! In the meantime our guests can relax in comfort and style and enjoy the space, discovering all the magic that Dartmouth & surrounding area has to offer. Our passion for art & design is reflected in the interior style of the apartment & our love of travel & experience in hospitality with 12 years managing Holiday properties creates a foundation for the high standard in everything we do.
Why they chose this property
After a brief visit to Dartmouth in early 1999 we instantly fell in love with the town and moved here just 9 months later! Situated on the River Dart the port of Dartmouth is one of the most captivating destinations in the South West of England. It is so Picturesque with it's wonderful architecture, historic quayside and narrow streets full of independent shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. There is so much to do for the whole family here including Sailing, fishing, crabbing and walking. Exploring the South West Coastal path is not to be missed with so many stunning views, rugged coves, an abundance of wildlife and the beautiful beaches of course! There are an incredible variety of trips to choose from whether you decide to head up river to Dittisham, Stoke Gabriel or Totnes, take a ride on the historic steam train or paddle steamer or visit the National Trust properties including Agatha Christies house at Greenaway and our favourite Coleton Fishacre near Kingswear. Many visitors find they never have to move their car for the entire stay! We love the fact that Dartmouth is a town for all seasons with its many vibrant festivals including the Music Festival in May, Royal Regatta in August , Food festival in October and Candlelit Dartmouth in December. With a Theatre, cinema , indoor swimming pool, sports centre and several spa hotels it really is an enjoyable place to spend time whatever the weather! If you do decide to explore a little further afield Exeter and Plymouth are interesting cities and Dartmoor is a wonderful contrast with impressive panoramic views of the South Hams and some magical spots to paddle and picnic further up the River Dart.
There is a visitor information folder in the apartment and we can also recommend so many other special places for you to explore with some cosy village pubs, great places to eat and endless walks in this outstanding area of natural beauty.

What makes this property unique
Our Victorian house is a very unique character property set in wonderful gardens with magnificent views from every level. It was previously featured in a major 'Coast' magazine article profiling family life by the sea. Part of the garden was designed by Chelsea Flower show Gold Winner Mary Reynolds, it won a BALI award and was included in several public garden tours. Guests are welcome in the warmer months to use our gorgeous Summer House , where you can relax and enjoy the Sunday papers & use the facilities to make a cup of tea. We are situated close to, but not right in the town centre, which means we benefit from a tranquil setting with dedicated off street parking, a rare thing in Dartmouth! The top floor apartment with its breathtaking views really is the icing on the cake with decor and furnishings echoing the surrounding area with many original paintings of local scenes by Simon Hart & other leading West Country artists. With modern living requirements the apartment contains all the latest technology including its own Wi-Fi connection, Smart TV, Bluetooth speaker and Blu-rAY/DVD player and if you need your daily fix of coffee the kitchen is equipped with a Nespresso machine. We have tried to think of everything you'll need and just want you to relax from the moment you arrive.
