About this property
Lakefront cottage, deep water, now booking Summer 2025
Situated immediately on the shore of Megunticook Lake, the largest freshwater body in the mid-coast region, “Babb Camp" enjoys spectacular views of the Camden Hills and the nature preserve, Fernald's Neck.
The camp is only 3 miles from the charms of the ocean-front town of Camden, with its many wonderful restaurants and shops, as well as a variety of opportunities to experience Penobscot Bay.
Located well-off the main road down a private road along a gently sloping wooded 2 acre lot, all the residents along this side of the lake are multi-generational owners and should you choose to stay here, you will have access to a very special section of the lake.
An American Bald Eagle is resident on the property most days and the loons can be seen swimming and heard calling at any hour day or night. Angler's can fish right off the dock or in the many coves nearby.
The Camp:
The building is an authentic example of a shingle style, traditional, rustic, Maine lakeside cabin. It has 5 bedrooms upstairs, and generous living and dining area downstairs, a large kitchen, and a large, wraparound porch. In keeping with the era, there are exposed posts and beams, original glass windows, and an original Ben Franklin wood stove. The furniture includes LLBean Lodge leather sofa and chairs, and an imported farmhouse table. There is a 42 in flatscreen TV with internet connectivity, and comfortable Amish-built Adirondack chairs on the porch. The dock is positioned to receive all day sun and is surrounded by deep, fresh water, perfect for swimming and boating.

About the host
Hosted by Jim & Jennifer Wickenden

The cottage has been in the same family continuously.
Why they chose this property
This is one of the first cottages built on Megunticook Lake in the late 1800's by the Babb Family, with 180 degree views of the lake, the Fernald's Neck nature preserve, Maiden Cliff, and the Camden Hills. It has undergone many renovations and updates since then, but still retains the authentic air and charm of a classic Maine lake cottage. The cottage was featured in Conde Nast's Bon Appetit magazine (August 2016 edition).
What makes this property unique
Positioned to have exceptional views of Megunticook Lake and the Camden Hills; excellent boating and deep water swimming off dock.
