About this property

In the heart of the East Neuk, with fabulous sea view and close to great golf.

Mill View Cottage is perfectly situated just a few hundred yards from the picturesque Fife Coastal Path, half way between St Monans and Pittentweem, and only a 20 min drive from St Andrews. Mill View is a newly renovated, immaculately presented traditional cottage with a large private garden and courtyard parking for four cars. The accommodation is all on one level and is suitable for guests with restricted mobility. The view across the sea to North Berwick with the historic windmill of St.Monans in the foreground is just breathtaking.

Providing a stylish comfortable retreat, the spacious, contemporary interior has been thoughtfully furnished with ample seating in the lounge and dining kitchen for six. There are three spacious bedrooms, one with a super king bed, one with a king size bed, and one with twin beds. The two largest beds are Sealy posturepedic beds with Nostromo pillow top mattresses. They are very spacious and comfortable and should ensure an excellent night's sleep, something that many of our guests have appreciated. The twin beds have award winning Emma mattresses and are also very comfy and suitable for adults or children.

The bedrooms are arranged in two 'wings' on either side of the lounge with the double bedroom and bathroom in one wing and the other two bedrooms and shower room in the other. The bathroom and shower room are recently fitted out with luxury sanitary ware.
The cottage has Sky TV, including SKY cinema and SKY sports, free wifi, Alexa and an ample selection of books, games, jigsaws etc for guests to use. There are also tennis racquets, beach toys etc. For colder days and evenings, there is a wood burning stove with wood supplied. There is a large decked area in the beautiful garden with garden furniture, parasol and outdoor lighting.

Best of all, however, are the wonderful panoramic sea and windmill views. It can be hard to tear yourself away from them to go exploring but well worth doing!

St Monans itself is a traditional harbour village overlooking the Firth of Forth, with spectacular views across to North Berwick, The Isle of May and Bass Rock. You can explore the streets and lanes, historic buildings, the old windmill that once powered the salt panning industry and the beautiful, old 14th Century church. Pittenweem has more shops, coffee shops, art galleries and a busy harbour selling fresh fish daily. There are a number of places in St.Monans selling freshly caught local seafood too, or you can catch your own from the sea front. There is a good local hotel in St. Monans, the very popular East Pier Smoke House selling fantastic lobster and an excellent seafood restaurant.

The Fife Coastal Path is just a stone's throw from the cottage , dotted with pretty fishing villages and many sandy beaches and coves to visit along the way. Pittenweem, St.Monans and Anstruther are all within easy walking distance of the cottage.

Activities for all interests can be found locally: fine golf courses, sandy beaches, watersports, art exhibitions, historic houses and gardens. This area is famous for golf with more than 40 courses in Fife, from the famous fairways of St. Andrews to the more traditional links courses and beautifully landscaped parkland and heathland courses. There are also numerous tennis courts nearby including St.Monans and Elie.

Just at the foot of the road, beside the steps to the coastal path, is Pathhead Nurseries. This is an excellent, well stocked garden centre linked to their own farm. It doesn't have a coffee shop, though there are plenty in the area, but it does sell freshly laid farm eggs from their own hens. It also has some fresh fruit and vegetables. Ardross farm shop is a short distance away and is a foodie's paradise with plenty of locally sourced artisan products. Bowhouse food market is a 2 minute drive and it has regular weekend food festivals.

There are sandy beaches a short drive away, we like Elie Beach and Kingsbarns Beach. Shopping wise, St.Andrews and Anstruther have a large variety of shops with the smaller villages having lovely gift and interior shops and essentials such as bakers, butchers, grocers etc.

Mill View Cottage is a warm, welcoming and comfortable retreat whatever the season. Nestled beside the Fife coastal path it really is a walker’s paradise and a great place to come home to at the end of a busy day. Heaven!

Lovely property in a great location for exploring the area. The layout with the separate bedroom wings was excellent. Really well equipped and the dogs loved the enclosed garden. The coastal path within 10 minutes walk was a great asset and the walks in both directions was fabulous.

Relaxing stay with friends

This is the second time we have stayed at Mill view and it is just as good as we remembered. It suits two couples and their dogs perfectly as everyone has their own space, the weather was good and we enjoyed the outside space and being able to walk along the costal path. I’m sure we will return.

Wonderful

The house was wonderful with the layout giving everyone their own space, yet still homely. Beautifully decorated. Comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen and lovely bathrooms. The view is stunning whatever the weather. Mature garden and large decking area just adds to this property's appeal. Situated within easy reach of all the villages in East Neuk. Hope to return one day.

Holiday with friends

Lovely comfortable cottage, on one floor with private garden overlooking the sea. The host provided everything for guests to self cater in a homely setting. Access to the Fife Coastal Path a short walk away, and in a central position set back from the coast road to visit all the local towns and harbours with great local food on offer. Would suit families, walkers, golfers wishing to explore this beautiful part of Fife. Many thanks Jeanette for a really wonderful stay.

Lovely stay

Thank you for a perfect weekend. House was so well located beside a garden centre and the coastal path - and in a beautiful area. It was ideal for coastal walks. Sun shone most of the weekend which made for lovely views of the sea and for exploring the surrounding villages. The house itself was comfortable and homely and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook in the evenings - local produce was all delicious too. Jeanette couldn’t have been kinder as she offered us an early check in too which was an added bonus. We hope to return.

Great cottage, beautiful location

We had a terrific week here, the cottage was excellent, very comfortable. We spent a lot of time in the lovely garden enjoying the beautiful view. The coastal path is a few mins walk away, and it's not far to both St Monans and Pittenweem. Very good communication from Jeanette. Lots of games, books, and streaming services on the TV in case it's a rainy day.

Lovely comfortable house, terrific garden with sea view from the terrace decking, which we were able to take full advantage of as the weather was great. The house was equipped with everything we required and was really cosy, and the hostess had left us helpful info on the local area. We would certainly consider renting Mill View Cottage again.

Tastefully modernised cottage forming part of a complex of four, situated in a quiet location with beautiful sea views. With easy access to the Fife Coastal Path and picturesque lactalbumin villages, this is the ideal place to spend a restful break. Small scale elegance and comfort. Beds/mattresses and linens all luxurious. Kitchen perfectly appointed. Jeannette was a such a gracious host and left us with an abundant welcoming package. We even played golf with her very fun husband Jim. The location is idyllic - great views, very pastoral, and a short coastal path walk to St Monans or Pittenweem. About the host

Hosted by Mrs Jeanette Smart

Host profile image
My husband and I both work in Education and live in Paisley. We have owned our beautiful property in the East Neuk for 15 years and have had many wonderful family holidays there.

Why they chose this property

Our children have now grown up and we are finding that we are using the property less often. We couldn't bear to sell it so we've renovated it from top to bottom and are now ready to become hosts which is an exciting new chapter for us. We are really looking forward to welcoming guests to Mill View Cottage and I know they will enjoy it as much as we have.

What makes this property unique

Without a doubt, the beautiful views are the best thing about our property. Countryside or sea vistas from almost every window makes it a truly beautiful place to relax. The light is just wonderful and the paint colours in the lounge never seem to look the same from one day to the next!
Another feature of Mill View is that it sits in a wonderful position exactly half way between Pittenweem and St.Monans and just a few hundred yards from the coastal path. It's lovely to go down to the path and then think .....which way today? Either way - you won't be disappointed.
We've worked hard to make the cottage comfortable and stylish and it has been furnished and decorated to a high standard. Most of the furniture and accessories have been purchased in the past year from Laura Ashley. The bathrooms have high quality fittings such as Mira showers and Villeroy and Bosch sanitary ware. We want our visitors to feel pampered and delighted with their choice.
