The cosy living room has an imposing inglenook fireplace built of fossiliferous limestone, a pair of 2 seater leather sofas, Smart TV and DVD player. The bathroom has an over bath shower and views of the limestone cliff at the rear of the cottage that gives Torside it's name.

VERNACULAR COTTAGE
Torside is a traditional Derbyshire limestone cottage set in its own garden. It is a vernacular building with rubble walls and wooden floors suspended over the bare earth. It is decorated to English Heritage standards and all external walls are lime plastered with pony hair binding it together!

TORSIDE LOCATION AND NATURAL HISTORY
Torside is tucked away in the stunning and 'other worldly' Peak Cavern Gorge, a tranquil corner of Castleton. It is a popular film set location due to the immediately dramatic scenery. Wildlife enthusiasts might see several species of bat flitting about, trout in Peakshole Water (AKA The Styx) and hear Tawny Owls calling in Spring. The nearby Peak Cavern is a Jackdaw roost, which can provide wonderful entertainment on a warm Summer's evening. Torside is the nearest dwelling to Peak Cavern, which has the largest land based cave entrance in the British Isles and is also a SSSI. The cavern was home to one of Britain's last troglodyte communities until 1915. Peak Cavern is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster and several tours are conducted daily. It is a short walk away from the village centre, with 6 pubs, several cafes, village bakery and Blue John jewellery shops. There is also a Visitors Centre and 4 show caverns to investigate..

FAMILY FRIENDLY
- Stair gate on landing
- High chair, travel cot and bedding available on request.
- Selection of children's toys and books.

CASTLETON
Castleton is well-equipped for visitors. There are 6 pubs, restaurants and tea rooms, 4 show caverns (and events therein), Blue-John Jewellery shops, Peveril Castle, Ancient Garland Ceremony, Christmas lights, Winnats Pass, geology galore (e.g. Mam Tor landslip), walker's paradise, post office, village store and bakery and an informative Visitor's Centre.

NEARBY
Many major tourist attractions are within a short drive: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Lyme hall and Park and Eyam (historically a Plague village). Child focused attractions include The Chestnut Centre (Otter and Owl Sanctuary), The Heights of Abraham and Gulliver's Kingdom (Matlock Bath, 27 miles) and Alton Towers (38 miles).
Buxton, an historic spa town is a 20 minute drive away. It is the highest market town in England. Visitor attractions include Poole's Cavern, Go Ape, Go-Karting and St Ann's Well. Buxton Opera House is one of Britain's leading receiving theatres, presenting around 450 performances each year. The pavilion Gardens are excellent for a picnic and a wander on a warm day.
Sheffield is about 30 minutes drive away.

Wonderful Cottage
We enjoyed our stay at Tor Cottage. It's a really pretty cottage in a great location for local walks and amenities and is equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Communication from Lisa was great and she even delivered a complimentary bottle of wine after we'd had quite a difficult journey getting there.

Torside is a beautiful cottage in a perfect location for exploring local walks and caverns. The secluded corner of Castleton was very peaceful, although it probably gets much busier in season when there are more visitors to Pesk Cavern. Communication with Lisa was excellent and the house was spotless.

Lovely cottage in this nice village. Walking trails right outside the cottage ending up in one of many nice pubs. The cottage is very cosy, perfect for a family of four.

A perfect place to stay
Four of us, all keen walkers, stayed here for five days. Communication with Lisa was great and property was well equipped, nicely furnished and well located in walking distance of trains, buses, a wide choice of cafes and restaurants, and the entrance to Peak Cavern. It was perfect in every way.

Why they chose this property

This was our first family home, ideally located in the Peak District but within commuting distance of Sheffield and Manchester. We moved out when we needed more space for out growing family.

What makes this property unique

The location in Peak Cavern Gorge is stunning. It is in a quiet area of the village but just a short walk to the centre where the pubs, shops and cafes can be found. Castleton is very much a working village and has a buzz about it.
