About this property
Beautifully renovated townhouse in central St Ives with garden & gated parking
Hillside is a beautifully renovated and generously proportioned Victorian townhouse that comfortably sleeps 6 (8 using the sofa bed), located in the very heart of St.Ives. Internally, high ceilings adorn the property which has 3 bedrooms, all of which feature fully lined blackout curtains, with the addition of stylish sustainably sourced teak shutters in Bedrooms One and Two.
The house also boasts 4 bathrooms, 3 of which are en-suite to the 3 double bedrooms and all feature high quality fittings by Italian designers Porcelanosa. As well as 2 separate living areas on the ground and first floor and a stunning large, private rear garden with sun terrace (a real rarity in St. Ives), there is also a private balcony to the bedroom at the top of the property affording wonderful views to the harbour, the Island and Atlantic Ocean.
Conveniently, Hillside also comes with its own private parking space in a gated, private car park directly opposite the house - a rarity in St Ives.
A double entrance leads to a bright and airy hallway featuring polished marble monochrome tiles. Bedroom One, immediately off the hallway, is a beautifully tranquil and spacious room comprising a double bed, large bay window with floor to ceiling double-glazed sash windows and shutters. This leads to an large ensuite bathroom complete with glass-fronted shower.
The adjacent Bedroom Two faces the rear of the house with views over the St. Ives rooftops, provides flexible sleeping accommodation and comprises a double bed, which can be separated to form two single beds if required. This bedroom also has its own en-suite bathroom with a large bath and accompanying shower.
Continuing along the hallway is another bathroom, with a glass-framed rainforest shower. Beyond lies the Garden Room - a gorgeous and peaceful living space affording views over the rear garden and the harbour beyond making it an ideal place to watch TV, read a good book or simply admire the view. A sofa bed enables this room to be utilised as a fourth bedroom if required taking the total number of potential guests to 8.
Upstairs leads to a landing and onto the main living area - the entire floor is open plan with a dining and living space that benefits from dual aspect windows which let the light flow in, but framed by floor to ceiling shutters to afford privacy as needed. The state-of-the- art open plan kitchen-diner seats 8 comfortably and features Siemens appliances throughout, as well as touches such as Dualit kettle and toaster, a wine fridge and Nespresso maker..
The living area features comfy seating and an ultra HDTV with surround sound and Apple TV. Technology at Hillside also includes WiFi and a Sonos wireless sound-system throughout the property.
Back on the landing, which also houses a w/c, a door opens to reveal a spiral staircase that leads up to the top floor and one of the house's best assets - Bedroom Three, in the eaves, with a double bed and en suite bathroom. Externally, a glass balcony can be accessed from the bedroom's glass double doors to afford a spectacular panoramic view of St. Ives harbour, the Island and the ocean beyond.
To the rear is the large fully enclosed garden - a special place and a real rarity in St Ives. Accessed via a spiral staircase from the Garden Room, it features two substantial decked areas with comfortable seating and dining areas - one nearest the house and another at the end of the garden under the pergola with pendant Edison lights, allowing you to enjoy the long summer evenings in the privacy of your own outdoor living space, with an adjacent firebowl. There is ample room to enjoy dining al fresco, with table, chairs and parasol and a Weber Grillmaster BBQ. The garden can also be illuminated with spotlights focused on the 3 palm trees in the central planting areas.

About the host
Hosted by Mark & Sophie
Mark's love affair with St Ives began as a child thanks to family connections to Cornwall and he's been going back there ever since. He took Sophie there on holiday after they got married in 2015, and she loved it so much that they ended up leaving with the keys to Hillside in their pocket! Until they move to St Ives full time, they are happy to share their dream home with couples, families and groups of friends through VRBO. Please do get in touch if you have any questions at all. Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Hillside the moment the door opened and we saw the fantastic long hallway with polished marble monochrome flooring. We spent ages looking for 'the one' and this is definitely it.
There's something special about Victorian houses and this one really is a unique proposition in central St. Ives. It feels like a home from home and our guests thus far seem to agree. Come and experience it for yourself.
We love the feeling of light and space that Hillside affords - much like the town itself. Throughout the house feels sophisticated, contemporary and very comfortable. On every floor you'll find interesting features and places to relax.
The large garden at Hillside is also a rarity in the town, with 2 decked areas ideal for sunbathing and enjoying a BBQ. The garden was completely transformed by local designers and in early 2017 to give it a real a 'wow' factor.
We love our iconic St Ives street, Skidden Hill and no wonder we get people stopping outside and taking photos! From its elevated position overlooking Godrevy Lighthouse to the middle distance, Hillside is tucked in next to St. Ia church. You'll find everything you need under a minute's walk away - from a post office to pasties. A short walk in the other direction brings you to the gorgeous Westcott Quay from where you can take a level stroll to the stunning Porthminster Beach.
Mark’s top St Ives tip: Visit The Tate and the Hepworth Museum. Don't be afraid to explore galleries - there's something to suit all tastes and budgets. We can recommend where to buy great local art - we know the best galleries, their owners and artists.
Sophie’s top St Ives tip: December is one of my favourite months in St Ives – there's so much going on! Christmas markets, ghost walks, festive restaurant menus, the Lantern Parade and so much more. It tends to be dry and crisp too, making it perfect for coastal walks followed by a cosy pub lunch and ending the evening with a Hillside bath.

What makes this property unique
They say: "One of our favourite rooms is the Garden Room - a ground floor living room and an ideal place for adults or children to enjoy a movie, to read or simply to enjoy the views out towards the harbour beyond. The Garden Room also has a sofa bed which can, if necessary, be converted to make the Garden Room another bedroom (with a bathroom directly next door) and bring the total number of guests to 8".
They also say: "We love the top floor of the house and the bedroom in the eaves. Accessed by a spiral staircase, there's also an ensuite bathroom. Outside is one of Hillside's best assets - a stunning glass balcony which affords views over the town, harbour and the ocean beyond. A wonderful place for morning coffee or a sundowner!".
Sophie says: "I feel the ratio of bedrooms to bathrooms is important in a home. Hillside has 4 bathrooms and a w/c. All 3 bedrooms have their own high quality ensuite bathrooms with Italian Porcelanosa baths, showers and sanitary ware".
Mark says: "The parking space in a gated car park right across the street from Hillside makes getting in and out of town very easy - unfortunately, parking in St.Ives during summer can be a bit of a lottery, so to have our own space so close to the house removes that worry. After a long drive it's really great to know that you've got a space when you arrive, not on the other side of town, but dead opposite where you'll stay - it really is that easy".
