A calm oasis

Clean, well-organized, everything you could want and some extras: homemade bread in welcome basket, lots of extra pillows, blankets and linens. Non-slip tile in shower was a real plus! A farm with sheep and donkeys is right across the road and it was great fun to watch them from a comfortable seat on the porch.

Cozy and unique getaway

We spent Christmas at this cozy little getaway, and it was absolutely perfect. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in outside of my own. The view was gorgeous and the fireplace was fantastic. The pantry was stocked, and we were even greeted with homemade bread and treats. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Spectacular setting!

This was an amazing place to stay. Historic school house nestled in the rolling hills at the base of the beautiful Kittatiny Ridge but with all of the modern amenities you might want (kitchen, tv, wireless, etc.). Great access to Hawk Mountain and I would highly recommend the scenic train ride to Jim Thorpe. The goodie basket upon arrival just put this over the top and the jam is to die for. Owners were extremely friendly but very respectful of our privacy. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be going back!!

Quiet little piece of paradise

We spent 3 nights there with my girlfriend and it was really relaxing! We got a complimentary "welcome" basket which gives a few excellent local products and the house was exactly as advertised! Spending the evening next to the fireplace was great and there was literally NO sound at night which coming from NYC was probably the best we could hope for... The area is nice to visit but we also spent an entire day hanging out next to the house in the sun which was very enjoyable. The owners were very responsive and accomodating. All in all, a 5-stars experience for a quiet getaway weekend!

A special place!

We absolutely loved Kinder Hawk. Cheryl is a gracious host and greeted us with a wonderful welcome basket of goodies! The renovated schoolhouse is charming and stocked with everything imaginable. Views from the yard/patio are beautiful--such a peaceful place. The owners obviously love sharing this home, as they've put so much attention to detail in this rental. We were only in the area for two nights, but enjoyed hiking at Hawk Mountain and visiting Pinnacle Ridge and Folino Estates wineries. We highly recommend a stay at Kinder Hawk!

Weekend country get away

Wonderful weekend getaway! Beautiful, cozy yet spacious home that supplied all of our needs and then some. Delightful outside area where we ate cheese and crackers and drank wine while watching the sheep, goats and donkeys across the street and enjoyed the breeze. Home is so tastefully renovated and extremely comfortable. 15 minutes from hamburg where Cabelas is,Russel stover store and more. Crystal caverns within 25 min drive too and you are right down the road from hawk mountain santuary and appalachian trails. Wonderful weekend. We will be back. My husband already booked a boys weekend on may!

Perfect Quiet Getaway

What a perfect place for rest and relaxation. The schoolhouse had everything we needed for our quiet unplugged getaway. The house is beautifully decorated and oh so cozy. It really felt like home! The kitchen has everything you need to cook your own meals as we choose to do. Many food/kitchen items had been left from previous vacationers. The fireplace made the living room cozy and warm and the couch with chase was super comfy. Our bedroom was perfect and the bed a dream to sleep on. We enjoyed walking the grounds, visiting our furry friends across the street, reading all the books and learning about the history of the little schoolhouse. This vacation spot works for an isolation getaway, or one that includes hiking, visiting wineries, local breweries, and Pennsylvania shops. We loved our time here and do look forward to returning!

Your place to relax and catch your breath

Our stay was too short, and too hectic. In the area for a wedding, this was a perfect place to relax and catch our breath. We were able to host a dinner for some other relatives also in for the wedding, and everyone was jealous of our home away from home. As I said, we weren't there as long as we'd like, so would love to return and just enjoy the home. Most places one stays in are just that: a place to stay in for a few days and leave as soon as possible. Kinder Hawk made us want to extend our stay for much longer, we were in no hurry to go home. Cheryl is incredible, and we enjoyed her wonderful Italian feast and welcome basket. So needed after flying and driving all day! Thank you so much. Hope to be able to return.

Amazing little getaway!

My wife and two kids (4&5) stayed at Kinder Hawk for a week in June/July. The house is an old one room school house that was converted to a residence. The property was extremely clean and absolutely perfect. The perfect modern country decor fit perfectly in the home. There is plenty of room around the house to be outside. Best of all is the "remote" location. While you're just a few miles from civilization, you feel like you're in the middle of no where. There is a road right infront of the house, but it is not busy and you will find plenty of time to hear absolutely nothing but nature. We spent time walking around the property, hiking at Hawk Mtn, and enjoying our time at the house. The best part was the welcome basket. Fresh homade bread, jam, fruits and greens! A dozen eggs and some fresh cut bacon helped us get a few mornings started on the right foot. I highly recomend anyone looking for a place to stay in this area to go to Kinder Hawk. You won't regret it!

We enjoyed our time here so much! The location is perfect. We had a chance to hike at Hawk Mountain. You can’t beat the beauty of the area. Perfect, tranquil stay!

Perfect place for peace and quiet (closest neighbors are deer, goats, and donkeys). 15 minutes from shopping and restaurants, 30 minutes from Jim Thorpe. Didn't have cell coverage, but provided Wifi worked perfectly. The home is nicely furnished, with a full kitchen, a patio for an evening glass of wine and deer watching, or a coffee in the morning with the birds.

Hiking excursion

Great location with respect to Hawk Mountain and Pinnacle Rock trails. We also loved watching all the farm animals across the street. The house was very well stocked and the added basket of goodies was a very nice touch. Bed was reasonably comfortable and we also enjoyed sitting on the patio. Kitchen is small but works well for a couple.

Growing up within a quarter mile of both Kinder Hawk Schoolhouse and our current farm, Jim, has intimate knowledge of the Albany township/Kempton area. Our main business is Robertson's Renovations General Contracting. We specialize in renovating older homes. Kinder Hawk will eventually become our retirement home - but we are still too busy with other things, like volunteering for the US Fish & Wildlife banding birds of prey, or volunteering for Albany Township Historical Society, gardening and grandchildren! We would love to invite you to experience true old fashioned PA German farm hospitality and welcome you into the family!

Why they chose this property

Kinder Hawk Schoolhouse used to be a part of our 40 acre farm. After many years of educated local children then being converted into a private residence, we were fortunate to be able to purchase the schoolhouse in December of 2014 and add it back into our farm!

What makes this property unique

Private, unique, economical, quiet and very cozy and comfortable with outstanding views!
Equipped with your comfort in mind. You are welcomed with good old PA German hospitality. Great stop over for AT hikers or their family. Stop, rest up, do laundry and keep on trucking fully rested! Artists can paint to their heart's content from any spot on the property! Gorgeous scenic view, private walking paths. Nature right out your door.
