We were pleasantly surprised by the well equipped and clean guest house.Communication with the owner was always easy and quick, and we had a really wonderful stay in the Madison Heights neighborhood! We would definitely recommend the place to anyone traveling to Pasadena!
Great location in a quiet, safe neighborhood and close to CalTech and shops. Every single amenity you could wish for is in this little dwelling. So much thought has gone into making it comfortable, practical and pleasant. The patio under the orange tree was such a lovely place to sit, eat, read, etc. I will definitely stay again on my next trip to Pasadena.
Great little place, very comfortable. The patio was wonderful, we spent a lot of time out there. If you're over 5'11" you'll have to duck every once in while but over all nice place in beautiful neighborhood to be in. Host was very nice and easy to talk to.
Esmé's place was a perfect home-away-from-home. It's private, charming, and has everything you need, including lots of thoughtful touches. It's walking distance from the S. Lake area, with lots of shops and restaurants, but tucked away in a beautiful part of Pasadena, with gorgeous 1920s architecture. Rosie the dog was a gentle sweetheart. We will definitely be back!

Charming and serene
This was the perfect home base for visiting family in Pasadena and LA, with comfortable, charming accommodations, gracious hosts, and a lovely neighborhood. We were within walking distance to everything in Pasadena.

Ken and Sarah were delightful guests. It is a delight to know they enjoyed their stay. I hope they return when they come to see family again.
We loved this spot. Very thoughtful touches upon arrival - coffee and snacks waiting for us. Spotless place in a lovely neighborhood. Enjoyed communing with Rosy the labradoodle!
What a quant and comfortable place to stay. It meets and exceeds my needs to stay near old town Pasadena, Cal Tech and Huntington Gardens. I highly recommend staying here (except when I want stay here!).
Great location, very quiet, close to everything we wanted to see. If you are over 6 feet tall the shower will be a bit cramped, but it's a small concession for the calmness and simplicity you'll get here.
Very nice.
This little guest cottage is beautiful and very well-maintained. It is on a lovely piece of property and in a stunning neighborhood that is very relaxing and beautiful to walk around. The owners were fantastic, and communication was very easy. This is a great little place to stay if you are by yourself or perhaps a couple. It also has a beautiful little garden area. This is a wonderful property, and I would definitely stay there again!
I would totally stay here again!
This place has all the good things: great location in a quiet neighborhood, lovely yard, lovely art and books and well set up--so California, a very comfortable bed, and so many added items that were unexpected, like coffee, 1/2 & 1/2, wine, Trader Joes items...It is a wonderful place to stay!
The communication with the hosts was easy and they responded quickly.
I would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Pasadena!
A delightful place to stay. Spotlessly clean place on a super quiet street in an attractive and very safe neighborhood of homes. Location was fine, about a 20 minute walk to restaurants, etc. Every possible amenity was provided and neatly and easily found. Sure, the shower is small, though bigger than anticipated and easily managed. Hosts could not have been nicer or more helpful. Highly recommended!

I enjoy staying at this property. In fact I don’t want to leave after I get there.
The neighborhood is SAFE and the houses have lots of character.
Traders Joe’s, Starbucks, and Whole Foods are just a few that are close by.
I like staying In Pasadena (30-45 minutes to LA)
I wouldn’t feel comfortable staying in LA.
Adorable cottage in the most beautiful neighborhood!
We traveled from San Diego to the Pasadena area to see the Huntington Library which is 7 minutes away from this cute cottage. The host provided snacks, fruit, coffee, cream, eggs and butter plus many condiments. Way more than we anticipated. The bathroom was well appointed with soaps and lotions and other toiletry items. Again, more than we expected. The entire stay was lovely.
This was a perfect place for my husband and I to stay for a long weekend to visit my mom who lives just two blocks away. I grew up in the area so for me it was very nostalgic to be in this adorable historic neighborhood!
Th unit is very cozy and comfortable. So well maintained and stocked with anything you might need! Or anything you might have forgotten. A lovely welcome basket with snacks was such a nice touch. Hope to stay again soon.

clean, classy, comfortable and artful
This is our second time staying at this venue. Phil is kind, generous, and available for what you may need. The rental is in a beautiful area and artfully decorated. There are many comforts including a stocked fridge with snacks and a welcome bottle of wine. I am almost reluctant to recommend it as I always hope it will be available when I come to Pasadena. Truly, you cannot do better.
We were visiting friends in Pasadena and attending the local museums. We selected the property because of its proximity to the Metro, Old Town and the museums. Gorgeous and quiet neighborhood for morning walks, convenient location for all our needs. It was 109 degrees when we arrived. We ran air conditioning in the property and were comfortable the entire time. The property was stocked with pretty much anything you might want. We have stayed at numerous locations through VRBO and this may have been the most thoughtfully organized property we have seen. We would definitely stay here again.
We booked last minute and stayed one week. We highly recommend their backyard apartment. Esme was responsive with communication. Queen bed was comfortable. We appreciated the extra heavy cotton blankets with the optional down (?) comforter. Kitchen was very well-stocked. They were very generous in supplying eggs and butter in the fridge, as well as pantry items for a quick dinner meal, coffee and filters, and snacks & wine on the counter - so very nice. They also had all the paper goods we needed - paper towels, toilet paper, as well as plastic wrap, foil, baggies in the kitchen. Neighborhood is gorgeous and very safe. We enjoyed our frequent neighborhood walks, admiring the unique architecture of the homes. Grocery stores are close. Next to the backyard apartment, they have a relaxing garden area with chairs under a lemon tree - all for the renters. Rosy, their dog, was super cute. I think she realized when we arrived some days and joined us in the backyard for a head scratch. She's a very good dog.
This was a great place to stay - I was doing research at the Huntington Library for a few days, and this was perfect for my needs. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bathroom is incredibly well stocked, there were snacks on the counter and wine (and half and half!) in the fridge - everything was truly lovely. Esmé was a great communicator and made sure everything went well. I would definitely stay here again and would give 6 stars if I could!
Note: the descriptions about the steep stairs and low ceilings are accurate. I'm fit and short (5'3") so it didn't matter at all.
Overall we had an excellent stay. The home is a clean two story with bedroom, bathroom and kitchen upstairs so we really never went downstairs except upon entering and exiting. It's maintained in an excellent and beautifully restored 19th Century neighborhood with lovely architecture, unique homes, and close to downtown Pasadena where you'll find many shops and restaurants easily accessible. The home was well equipped with some nice surprises and just about everything you'll need during your stay. Plus, being as my pickup often doesn't easily fit in many California height parking garages, having free on-site driveway and street parking (3 pass) was a life saver and big financial benefit. Check-in and check out was a breeze, the host was very friendly, accommodating and gave us plenty of privacy but was also available if/when needed. One thing we should mention for future guests is to be aware of the *petite" size of the shower. It is very small but also very low. At 5'9" it didn't bother me too much but anyone taller will definitely be arching over to get under the shower head. All in all a great stay for us!
This one bedroom above the garage is absolutely wonderful. It was very clean and it had everything! My hostess was great and so was her beautiful golden doodle. I really didn’t want to leave and I will be coming back. The only thing is for people who are tall this probably would not be the best place because the shower is definitely for short people. I ’m 5’4” and I just fit in it. But I did feel very safe. There in the garden was absolutely beautiful. I loved having my coffee outside every morning.
