Enjoy the sunrise each morning at this comfortable family cottage, located at the west end of Big Platte Lake with 100' of sunny, sandy beach front. Located down a beautiful, private wooded road - away from all traffic and noise.
Lake gradually deepens, so there is plenty of shallow water for safe play. Very special location - at the end of a private cul-de-sac backed by beautiful woods.
Cottage has brand new kitchen and has an open dining/living room floor plan great for family gatherings. Kitchen is fully equipped to cook for your party! There is charcoal grill for any outdoor cooking you might have!
This cottage is lovingly family-owned and maintained. In 2021 we completely replaced the kitchen. The cottage is comfortable and clean, but the star of this property is its location and private frontage on Platte Lake. Arguably the best spot on the lake!
* Pontoon is family owned and is not available for use or rent. * Additional pet fee of $100 per pet.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cottage is a bit dated and lacks AC but we appreciated the updated kitchen which allowed us to cook some meals in. The lake is beautiful and access was made super convenient with a new dock and platform. We brought our paddleboards and loved the easy access. So thankful we could bring our dogs. If you bring yours, watch for the poison ivy around the perimeter of the yard. All in all, it was a great stay!
Property was a bit old…no AC with some of the hottest days on record. Cooled back down after a few days. Great job with linens, towels, and supplies. Layout of the house was fine…but just old. Would definitely stay again, though.
Truly a slice of heaven.
My family really enjoyed the Tocco cottage.
The cottage was amazing. Everything we needed was there, the beds were very comfortable.
The location is perfect. The beach and lake were wonderful,we kayaked the lake and river.
Just a perfect vacation cottage
Great location and updated kitchen now. House is great for families and young kids. Beach is great for digging and playing and water is shallow . Will be going again next yr.
We had a great time at Platte Lake! This is the third time we have stayed at this cottage. It is close to the dunes and tubing/kayaking down the Platte River. We went to Frankfort for ice cream and to watch the sunset.(Such a cute little town!) We discovered Point Betsie beach on Lake Michigan and went rock hunting. All of this is within a 15 min drive. The cottage was clean with some new updates and has a sweet charm. The lake is shallow in front of the cottage (and warm the week we were there) and great for families with young ones. We would recommend highly!
It was fun to be in a home that has raised several generations of family. Wish we could have been there then.
Booking process very graceful. Property was what was expected. Great location. In house resources, cooking, heating, towels, etc. are all there. Attention is needed with cleaning, paid a premium price for cleaning services, but there was plenty of leftover dust to share. The mold mildew odors are always present. Tried to open BR windows for fresh air, but they would not open. Fire Marshall might like to know that.
Patching holes on walls and a coat of paint would better justify the price point charged.

Older cottage in need of updates. Well equipped, kitchen nicely renovated. Baths need work; sink clogged, tiny sinks and older cabinets. Beautiful outdoor space on lake, but tables, chairs and grille very dirty. No AC, but the four large fans had to be cleaned before using. Front door very hard to open as it was warped. Couches were old, but queen bed was nice and comfortable . Windows old and dirty. Dining room chairs need replacing.
Great house for our family. The beach worked out great for my daughters and son, they loved playing in the water and catching minnows. The updated kitchen and dock was nice. Thanks for great memories with my family before baby #4 arrives
Our stay was amazing a peaceful and quite street, with friendly neighbors. Our kids and dogs loved swimming in the lake. The drive to sleeping bear dunes was amazing. Would definitely stay here again.

For price of renting bedrooms shd b nicer. No place to put clothes BR furniture a disaster. Bathrooms need to be cleaner and rugs in BR are really bad. Did not see one fire detector or carbon monoxide detector. Location fabulous, overall place ok not great. A bear came into yard and and a raccoon was able to enter through the disastrous windows.Laundry facility not great. Again for the price they are getting there are areas that need a lot of work.
Pros: Beautiful location, great beach and lake, perfect for children, great neighbors, kitchen updated and well stocked with dishes, etc. Good shower with plenty of hot water
Cons: Cottage is old, could be cleaner, well water undrinkable and yellow, washer and dryer ruined some of our clothing, hot water is scalding so be careful little ones don’t get burned
Large lot with a beautiful view. Quiet spot. Had a new kitchen and large living area. Spent most of our time sight seeing but enjoyed coming back to the cottage to relax.
Great location, very quiet and peaceful. We can tell it would be fun in the warmer months to use the waterfront. Overall great place, it is apparent through the historical photos that improvements have been done over the years and a lot of memories are made here.
My friends and I rented the house for a birthday fishing trip weekend. The house was clean, comfortable and just what we needed! Close to the fishing sites, able to bring our own boats to fish the lake or do some kayaking. We met the owners the last morning of our stay and they were super friendly. Would highly recommend and will be looking to book again next year!
Quiet place at the end of a quiet private road. Beautiful lake views. Liked the very clean screened gazebo with plenty of comfy chairs to relax in as you view the lake. Lots of room to play on the lawn by the lake. Has a sandy beach. Plenty of chairs on the deck and by large fire pit. New kitchen is very nice. Not much lighting though. Could use more updating in the house, especially in bedrooms, but overall, a positive experience.
I really enjoyed staying here. It has a very cozy vibe with some cool mid-century touches. I appreciate that this is a family home and liked seeing the family photos and mementos. There were definitely some things that could have used freshening up but none of that really bothered us at all as we are fairly laid-back people. The beds and furniture were comfy, and really as long as I can relax and sleep comfortably, I’m good. Only a few small things I think could be improved: We couldn’t get the dishwasher working and hand washing dishes is not my favorite thing to do on vacation . The sponge provided to wash dishes was quite old and unappealing. There were no toiletries provided, which wasn’t something we needed but are used to seeing at VRBO properties. A set of newer towels for guests would be appreciated, as well as some basic toiletries as I have come to expect that from VRBO rentals even if I don’t usually use them. Again, these are all pretty minor issues and were easily overcome by the wonderful location.
The cottage is open and well-kept. Lots of windows, all of which can be opened, which makes for very pleasant cross-ventilation. The kitchen is very well furnished and well organized. There are even labels on the drawers telling you what's in them.
The beachfront is beautiful. The yard is mostly lawn, but there are trees scattered about, and also lawn furniture. There's even a screened-in gazebo. The lawn fades to sand near the lake. The lake bottom is all sand, even right next to the shore. It gets deeper very gradually, so you have to walk out about 100 feet (the end of the dock) for an adult to have room to swim. The wind is usually off-shore, so the shorefront is usually quite calm, even on days when the prevailing wind is quite strong. The lake itself is also beautiful, surrounded on all sides by heavily wooded small hills.
Just the spot for a very relaxing getaway.
Situated on a beautiful beach. Prevailing wind is blocked by trees. Plenty of sun or shade depending on your preference. As always a week on Platte Lake is just relaxing.
The best part of this property by far is the lake access. There was a nice sandy bottom, and the kids (10, 12 and 13) were all able to walk out in the water to the end of the very long dock without the water getting too high on them. The house does have a few canoes but we brought our own kayaks and kayaked out to Lake Michigan. Location is great with the house being less than a half hour away from Sleeping Bear Dunes and Crystal Mountain, and less than an hour away from Traverse City. The owner, Gina, was quick to respond to any questions and easy to work with. There were a few things in the actual house that could use some attention, like missing ceiling tiles in one bedroom and a missing light fixture in another, but none of this impacted our stay. Overall, if we ever decide to take another trip out that way, we would stay here again. Thanks for sharing your family home with us.
You can not beat the location. True up North vibe and feeling. I chose the cottage as it was perfect for my family and I didn't have to worry about tip toeing the family around it. It is adequate for all things. The lake is perfect. Sandy shore, super sandy lake access. Great for paddle boarding and kayaking. Great fireplace and fully stocked with everything you need. Highly recommend for the family.

About the host

I have been coming "Up North" my whole life. As a child I played on the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, climbed the dunes, and splashed in the rivers and lakes that grace the area. As an adult, I now watch my two girls enjoy the same magical experiences of my childhood. I manage two properties in the area - one on Platte Lake and one on Good Harbor. My passion is to help you and your family/friends enjoy the stunning beauty that is Northern Michigan.
Why they chose this property
- classic "Up North" cottage with brand new kitchen and appliances - all-sports Platte Lake - cottage is at the end of the cul de sac - private & spacious grassy yard - sandy beach with 100 feet of private frontage - shallow entry into the lake for safe & fun kid play
