What an amazing place to stay! Beautiful scenery, great space for all, and so many extras included. Thomas was great with communication and so accommodating with a schedule change for my family. Would highly recommend to anyone. We traveled with two babies and the beach and water was absolutely perfect. Could not think of a better place to have a get away with long distance family!!

Perfect and quiet vacation spot for the whole family

Place was clean and well-stocked with everything that we needed (and forgot). Beds were unbelievable comfortable, great supply of all linens, two refrigerators (NICE!), airy large porch for meals and games, beautiful lake, great pontoon for our use. We could go on and on. We have stayed at many vacation rentals and this place was awesome. THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL WEEK!!

The cabin has plenty of room. It was clean and kitchen was stocked with pretty much everything. The photos showed a keurig but there is not one. The water was clear and kids had great time playing on beachy area and in the water. Fishing was good. Pontoon is small so we couldnt all fit at one time but it worked out. Overall we had a great time!

Wonderful secluded family getaway

We spent a relaxing week with our family at the Paine cabin. We had seven adults and never felt crowded. We spent the most time on the screen porch and enjoyed the cool breeze. Having deer, eagles, and loons to watch added to the relaxed atmosphere. The sand beach, crystal clear water, and pontoon were much appreciated. The well-stocked kitchen and large charcoal grill made meal prep easy. We are looking at future dates for a return trip!

Would I book this property again with my family? Yes—with one important caveat.Things to know:• Trash: Our biggest frustration. Check-in instructions suggested the Gordon or Minong transfer stations accepted trash for free. We discovered there's a 5/bag fee and required recycling, neither disclosed. During our Fourth of July stay, both stations were closed. The owner's brother's restaurant was already full, and the owner suggested we "might have better luck at a gas station or random place." With no practical solution, we left the trash behind with a tip for the caretaker. If staying over a holiday weekend, confirm the trash plan before arriving.• Bathrooms: The main-floor bathroom is through a bedroom, and the upstairs bathroom uses only a folding privacy screen. Awkward.• Living room: One couch cushion (left) had a noticeable urine odor. • Wildlife: We frequently heard a squirrel in the metal eaves; the owner was aware.• Condition: Moderately clean. Expect cobwebs, well-used bedding, no Keurig despite the booking photos, a screened porch needing maintenance, and a gas odor from the stove that triggered an upstairs alarm.Highlights: Sandy zero-entry shoreline for kids (with a sharp drop beyond the dock), great pontoon and sauna, plenty of shade, spacious screened porch, stocked kitchen, reliable Wi-Fi and cell service, plus a clean, quiet lake with good fishing.Overall: We enjoyed our stay but would avoid holiday weekends unless the trash plan is confirmed ahead.

Wonderful cabin getaway

We booked this rental for our adult and teen children to join us for a week. Everyone had a wonderful time. The beach and lake are beautiful and clean. Everyone loved having the canoe, paddle boat, pontoon and floating dock to use. The fishing was great, even right off the dock. The cabin was very clean and accommodating, we had everything we needed for the whole week. It was nice to bring our dogs and have the huge front porch for them. The owner checked in a couple times to see if we needed anything which was nice. The upstairs bedroom does have a wall-less bathroom which was interesting but a beautiful view from all sides. We would love to come stay again and miss the tranquility already.

The cabin needs to be cleaned. It had lots of bugs and cobwebs. The dryer didn’t work until the last few days of our stay.

Beautiful lake and location. Items that did not work: shower in the sauna, oven, burners on stove lite with a huge blast of flame, cloths washer, fireplace in master suite. A lot of ashes in all wood burning items. Dead mouse smell, was the worst in master suite. Dog loved swimming.

Gordon Cabin

The cabin is very cute, huge, certainly can accommodate many people. Beautiful windows, views upstairs etc. The upstairs bedroom is unique, but fun. The pontoon boat ran well, and it was nice to have a canoe, the lake is stunning so clear! The kitchen had all the amenities needed, and the beds were very comfortable. The small living room was very cozy. The screened porch was a beautiful space for morning, coffee, and playing games at night. However, when we arrived, we did have to clean it. There was dust and spiderwebs all around the old furniture in the corner as well as the main table. We were excited to use the sauna, but unfortunately it had not been locked up and was very dirty, likely from animals using it as shelter. Honestly, the cabin will be beautiful when complete, but it’s very apparent that it is still being renovated and perhaps maybe not quite ready for guests without an explanation that it is under renovation.Did certainly enjoy our our stay…

Finding the place was difficult. The address given was incorrect. The pontoon could have died in the middle of the lake there was an issue with the water pump. The owner said he knew about it and it shouldn’t be a problem. Garbage service was non existent. We had to haul our garbage six miles to a dump. Limited hours and a 5 fee for each bag. The cleanliness was substandard. The hand soap in the kitchen had been watered down.Missing smoke detectors in the main bedroom upstairs.Uncomfortable wicker chairs in the living room.A beautiful place but could definitely be much better with some TLC

Everything you want in a vacation

This place was everything we wanted for our 2023 summer vacation - a nice sized lake home able to accommodate plenty of family on a terrific lake. You had to love the unique and amazing second floor featuring a combined master bedroom and bath with fantastic views of the lake. Property owner Thomas was the best communicator I've encountered in my over 10 years of renting on VRBO. The lake itself was crystal clear, it really does have a clean sandy beach, peaceful, and offered steady fishing to the dedicated fisherman. If you want to have a change of pace there are plenty of things to do in and around the area (Gordon Dam Park, Solon Springs, the Pogo Harbor Inn Bar on county T) but we were just happy to stare at the lake from the full span front porch and wile away the hours until the sun fully set. This place is in a highly wooded area on a lake, and like all properties in these settings, you should come equipped with a good supply of mosquito spray and be prepared to swat a few insect friends that manage to make their way indoors with you.

We enjoyed our week at this property. Our highlights were the screen porch, the sandy swimming area (to about 3' depth), good fishing from the dock in the evening, and use of the pontoon boat. It is a pretty private location, and the lake does not have a ton of crazy boat activity. It is about 10 or 15 minutes from the local gas stations, and further from grocery stores, the best in Minong. (20 min) Superior is only 40 minutes away too. The interior is rustic, so expect a few bugs, you're up north. There are so many unknown light switches to nowhere, however the owners are working hard to make updates. We stayed there over some very hot days, and we were worried not having air conditioning. We'd close up the windows toward mid morning, and leave them open at night. We slept fine. 2 of the 4 beds are upstairs, so if you have littles, the beds could be further away from you than you might like.I would just like to post a frustration that I think all rental owners must have. The renters need to take care of the place too. We left the boat gas tank with a full tank, after finding it less than half full. We bought a flashlight and left it. Did previous renters break or take them? Cleaners can't inventory everything. Help the next renter out.We enjoyed our week, made some great memories, and recommend the Paine cabin.

Made the best out of a bad start

We were pretty disappointed with the property when we arrived. Grass had not been cut (we stayed mid June), garbage and lawn tools were all over the yard, the screen porch was VERY dirty (pine needles piled up on the ledge and half of the screens were so filthy you couldn't see through). We were told the people who stayed before us had left out food so mice had gotten in, but there is a serious mouse problem and, from what we saw, no exterminator was there recently to fix holes or anything like that. There were no fire/smoke alarms (the brackets were all there but no alarms). There was no A/C, which we knew about, but not every room had a fan nor could a window be opened. Our room had a window, but the screen wasn't even the correct size for the window. The host did call someone to help us with some of these issues, and we greatly appreciated Tyler's help and working with us. We wished all of this had been taken care of BEFORE our stay!The positives were the lake. We stayed cool on the humid 90 degree days with swimming in the clear, sandy water. The fishing was great, too, right from the dock. The pontoon boat, although smaller than expected, did work with some minor issues that the host made us aware of upon arriving at our stay.We won't be staying again, the property wasn't even ready for our stay upon arrival!

First and foremost we had a wonderful time on our vacation in the Northwoods. The ride through the woods to get to the house was so pretty, we always saw many deer. The house was big enough for the four of us. The tree beams in the rooms were quite stunning. The tub/shower did not drain well at all, we took our showers in ankle high water. It was fairly warm the week we were there and I love having the windows open when I sleep, however the screen in the front bedroom didn't fit properly and neither did the screen in the bathroom. There was an actual 1/2" gap on one side, definitely not the correct screen for the windows. The toaster had mouse poop inside. We bought a toaster and brought it in and out for breakfast, it stayed in the box in the car everyday. We love to fish, especially at night, there were no navigational lights on the pontoon boat. We were only able to fish during the day and we did catch and release a large mouth bass, northern pike, and some nice sized bluegills. There's a hole in the screen in the porch because there was a squirrel in there one day and my husband saw him escape through that hole. We had to pay for our garbage at the transfer station. 5.00 per bag. I have a hard time believing that the county or town doesn't have some sort of record to look at to see who is entitled to drop off garbage and not pay. We paid 20 for one week's worth of garbage & had to put it in our car.

The property is beautiful,on a pristine lake, but driveway much to be desired

We spent a lovely week in a beautiful log cabin on clear Leader Lake. The ad for this cabin had some false advertising however. There was no cable TV, no TV at all, no WiFi which our college grand daughter needed for her summer online classes and assignments that came due, and no cell phone service, except out on the lake. The log cabin is very nice and spacious enough for our family. The kitchen was well supplied with pots,pans ,dishes and utensils. It was very nice to have one refrigerator in the kitchen and one on the spacious front porch.The driveway was horrible, we could not begin to get our enclosed trailer with the atv's down the driveway and I'm sure if you were to drive it in a regular car you would be bottoming out. There are so many issues that need to be addressed to make for a more pleasant stay, such as repair the huge holes in the screened in porch, take care of the mouse and rodent problem, repair the hole in chinking in the living room where the mice frolic. The permit on the pontoon had expired in March, only one paddle for the canoe,80% of the light bulbs did not work and not a single battery for any of the remotes to watch a movie. Like I said, we had a lovely time together as a family with our married children, making do with what we had. It was a beautiful lake to swim, kayak, and fish. The property is very beautiful with the tall,tall pines and the lovely log cabin (home) on a pristine lake.We all enjoyed our stay.

Amazing Lakeshore

The star of this cabin is the lakeshore location; the lake is sandy with clear water and not super busy with boat traffic. The pontoon was a nice bonus, it looks small but is actually a great size for this lake. Definitely take the canoe to inlet to the other lake, you will go through a magical Disneyesque lagoon to another lake that somehow is even sandier. The owner has truly thought of everything you will need to enjoy your time here. Stop loading up your car, trust me this cabin has it all!! Forgot our blue tooth speaker, bam one in the drawer; wouldn't it be nice to wake up and do yoga on the the dock?, bam yoga mat by the beach chairs. Plenty of grills to choose from, husband was obsessed with the pellet grill. I noticed when I booked the cabin, the pictures are from 2015 so I was a little nervous that it would be run down, but no, it is very well maintained and everything was immaculately clean (for a cabin that allows dogs-we did not see one dog hair from a previous guest!). Having a large master suite when hosting friends was amazing-just a place to sit and have coffee and hide away for a minute. I saw other reviews that people complained about taking their trash, I consider this the norm with any cabin...anyway the transfer station in Gordan is free (well, they said they would charge if you were a jerk, so maybe that was the other reviewer's issue?), they were super friendly and it has a small thrift shop area. The WIFI was great, reached all the way to the beach and was able to stream TV and phones no issue (the TV had Disney+ whether that was left by another guest or paid by the owner). This is a great cabin find and would definitely come back!

Nice location, but mouse problem needs addressing

This rental looked really nice from the pictures, and it is in a beautiful location. Our biggest problem is that there is a severe rodent problem. We brought groceries and had them on the counter overnight when we first got to the cabin, and the next morning they had been eaten by mice, eaten through sealed bags.... We also had a plate with crumbs left on it in the kitchen overnight, and the next morning it had mouse droppings on it. We threw away the ruined food and sealed the remainder in our suitcases, and didn't leave anything out (after reporting it to the owner, who said in the woods that you couldn't keep them out). Well the rest of the week every morning there were new mouse droppings on the kitchen counters, on the bathroom floor, and on the shelves next to one of the beds. When changing the garbage bag we even found a dead one in the bottom of one of the garbage cans, and even found mouse droppings upstairs (at first we thought they were only on the main floor). I'm sure the mouse problem can hopefully be fixed. I am not a stranger to rural or forested areas, and have gone to many rural Wisconsin rentals and have never had a problem like this (particularly to this degree). Something else just to be aware of is that there are no drapes on any of the windows except in one bedroom on the first floor, even in the bathrooms which don't have privacy windows. The weird upstairs "bathroom" toilet is literally right in front of the window at toilet level. There was at least a curtain rod on the bathroom with the shower, so I was able to put a towel on it to cover the window. It is a really pretty view, especially from upstairs, but there are definitely times you want to be able to have some privacy, like when changing or going to the bathroom at least.

Thank you for your review. Bathroom upstairs is definitely strange especially if you have a large group of people. We had an exterminator come in and set traps fill gaps and holes after your stay. We hope to have solved that problem. It hasn’t been an issue in the past so we are confident it won’t be in the future. As mentioned we are in a rural area and this cabin before the remodel in 2001 was over 100 years old, with two fridges, a bread box and cabinets we recommend never leaving food out. The exterminator mentioned to us it likely started a few weeks ago with a different guest and built up to being a noticeable problem. We are very sorry we would never want you or anyone to have to deal with mice, bugs or anything in the cabin. Thank you for your communication on this, good bad or ugly it helps us make changes/improvements for our property.
