My family and I had the best time at this home. The house was extremely clean, the views are amazing. We enjoyed looking at the stars and seeing the milky way. Some great hiking near by. We drove up and down 3 looking for the elusive moose but were unlucky. The kids really enjoyed sitting on the dock, swimming and going out in the canoe. They also enjoyed watching shows on the outdoor patio. I have already told several people about this home and hopefully we will get back up there one day.
The location is so private, and the lake is great for kayaking with limited gas boats. The cabin was top notch with a rustic feel. Also, great for the fur buddies. Nice place to take the dogs on a stroll. People were so kind. Great stress releaser for hustle bustle. Defiantly recommend this place for those who love nature. Listen to the voices of the Loons.
Great log-cabin experience in a beautiful location. Two great porches--the covered porch open to the lake and the screened porch on the side. Dog friendly, and easy to communicate with the owners. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and in/on the property. We hope to return again. Our stay in late September meant that the lake was very low; if that is going to be an issue for you (b/c of fishing or swimming or wanting to be nearer the water), check lake levels ahead of time. One of the great things about First Connecticut Lake is the sound of loons, especially at night. Fall is a great time for loons, in our experience, and that was a special treat.
This was perfect for our getaway. A little trouble accessing trails but we had a blast!! Matt was easy to reach at all times. Thanks for the use of your home, Matt and Heather.
Moosewood is the perfect lakeside getaway! We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this lakeside cabin! From the moment we arrived, everything was clean, cozy, and exactly as described. The setting is peaceful and beautiful, with lake views that made mornings with coffee on the deck a highlight of the trip. The cabin had everything we needed with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and thoughtful touches throughout. We especially enjoyed the fire pit and the kids spent evenings fishing off the dock. The host was fantastic, very responsive, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. They provided clear instructions and their house book was full of great local recommendations, which made our stay even better. This place was perfect for relaxing, reconnecting with nature, and enjoying quality time together. We can’t wait to come back!
Amazing!!! Wow Wow!! The log cabin is spectacular and the view of the first Connecticut lake is a picture from a movie! The home is fully equipped with kitchen needs and plenty of space to spread out. The on line description is very accurate. You are secluded from any neighbors. If you like to ATV, boat, hike, fish hunt etc. This is a perfect place for you. I use Pittsburg NH to unwind from city life. If you want fancy places to eat and shop that's not this area. This cabin is spectacular and spaciousness and your hosts keep it well maintained. This is the real deal in the North woods!

Thank you John for the great review. Will love to see you again in the future!
The house is beautiful. The water was incredible. We sat out on the dock in the morning for coffee. Saw loons and babies. Other waterfowl we had not seen before. Dogs loved water and retrieving balls. There were nearby trails and IGA in Colebrook was great for grocery shopping. It was about 27 miles away. There is also a really funky store that has amazing fudge and lots of different things. The meat and produce were not great. We loved our stay.
We had an amazing time at Moosewood this past week. The property is secluded enough that we went almost the whole week without seeing any neighbors. On the last day a friendly neighbor dog came over and said hello followed by his owner who was just as nice. We swam, fished, went looking for moose (we saw 4!) , hiked, canoed, rented ATVs and relaxed. We saw fox, deer, and turkeys just up the road and even spotted an otter with her baby right off the beach! The water was perfect temperature for swimming (bring water shoes, it’s rocky not sandy) and the whole beach and dock was sun drenched all day. The covered porch was nice for getting out of the sun and just relaxing with coffee and a book. We were sad to have to leave.
Moosewood was located on First Connecticut Lake in a quiet and private area. We enjoyed a relaxing week by the water while our Lab was in his happy place, swimming daily. The Lake is crystal clear for swimming but make sure you bring water shoes because it is rocky. The deck has comfortable chairs to sit and watch the sunrise, listen to the loons or read a book. There are also plenty of chairs for the bottom patio and lawn. Perfect for a family. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, dishes, utensils, coffee maker and more. We were there in October with the nights already chilly but there is a screened in porch with a TV, furniture and large picnic table that would be perfect for spring and summer evenings. Matt and Heather responded immediately if needed and left house instructions with information about attractions in the area. Young's General Store has just about everything you might need for your stay. I don't bother bringing much other than kitchen staples. There are restaurants to enjoy dinner out but plan ahead, you'll need reservations at Rainbow Grille and Murphys Steakhouse. We have been visiting Pittsburg for about 15 years now and this was one of our favorite stays. We are getting older now so the daily long hikes and fishing in the river aren't quite as frequent but we were happy just enjoying the scenery from this comfortable home. Thank You!!
We had a great time. Beautiful sunrise every morning and the moon over the lake was out of this world. Everything in the listing was right on. Thank you so very much for letting us stay. Will definitely stay again. Thank you once again.
My husband & I spent the week here with our college son & his girlfriend. We had an amazing time. The cabin was clean, nicely decorated, comfortable and had everything we needed. The location is quiet and peaceful. We went kayaking(our own), swimming, fly fishing, hiking or just hung out. Saw a moose & bald eagle! Loved seeing & hearing the loons day & night. Felt like we had the lake almost entirely to ourselves. The fishing in the rivers was outstanding. Caught trout & salmon. If you want a guide call Lopstick & ask for Paul. He was great.
Moosewood- a beautiful property! Clean, cozy and comfortable. Perfect lake location. Cant beat it for nature watching...loons, moose!, hiking, fishing- or just relaxing! Dog friendly as well (which for us was a deal breaker). Homeowner was amazingly responsive and super friendly. Very accommodating lodging. Really not much to do except enjoy a great week of vacation. Would definitely return. Thank you!
Matt was excellent to deal with, and their place was very nice. Plenty of room for our family, with everything you'd need for your stay. Nice private lot at a dead end. The screened in porch was a favorite, especially on the one day it rained. Would definitely stay again if it is available next summer. Thanks Matt & Heather!
This spot is a slice of heaven. It is very clean, new, and peaceful. The owner is very friendly and easy to communicate with. Had a wonderful stay reconnecting with family. The internet is as fast as the one at my office. Such a great place to stay and lovely view!
Matt, Thank you for letting us enjoy your home.My family and I enjoyed our stay at your beautiful Moosewood Log Home for the 4th of July week. Perfect location it’s the last house on a dead end road. Even for the holiday it was very quiet and peace . The waterfront and mountain view was beautiful , we spent our week enjoying fishing swimming and kayaking right from the back yard. The neighbors around the lake put on a Firework show, and which was great. The home was very clean, plenty of room for the whole family . Everything looked just like the pictures. If you need to go food shopping there is a grocery store Solmans about half hour or away or there’s a few convenient stores closer. There is an Ice Cream stand down the street as well. Everything was perfect can’t complain. If I could make a small suggestion , that we did miss during our stay was that there was no microwave. I missed it for heating up small things , but that’s it , other then that everything was great. I would definitely recommend this home to my friends. Thank you again Matt.
