FANTASTIC HOUSE with lots of amenities and Excellent reviews

This mountain cabin is the perfect place for your great outdoors experience, for a romantic getaway, or for a much deserved respite! You will find that this house has everything that you will need: a fully equipped kitchen, two dining areas, a fireplace, screened porch, large outside deck with propane fire pit, all nestled on approx. one acre on a secluded cul-de-sac.

When you are enjoying your time on one of the great decks (there are 3 in all and the screened porch) you will be listening to the waterfall located at the bottom of the property. It is a steep descent to view the waterfall-but worth the experience.

The parking area is right outside the front door.

Guests can enjoy fishing located one block away on Hogback Lake. For guests who desire an active stay, our Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Sapphire Valley amenities* offer: golf, tennis, mountaineer putt-putt golf, two heated pools, outdoor pool, hot tubs, sauna, game room, fitness room, jogging track, ski/tubing area (winter months), and we have a canoe for your pleasure on scenic Fairfield Lake. Pontoon rentals are close by on beautiful Lake Glenville during the summer months.

Most Summer/Fall guests agree that the "Best Room in the House" is actually the screened in back porch. The comfortable sofa and chairs invite you to sit and enjoy a beautiful view of Hogback Mountain!

*With this rental, adult guests (children under 14 are free) can purchase a guest pass for $5/ day. The pass allows a guest to have access to all of the amenities at Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Sapphire Valley. This also includes reduced greens fees at Sapphire National Golf Course.

Perfect Mountain Stay

This cabin is located in a wooded community but far enough from neighbors for full privacy. It is extremely cozy and comfortable and is stocked with anything you could need during your stay. We especially enjoyed the screened porch with beautiful views. The host was very communicative and responsive to my many questions. The location is convenient to hiking, waterfalls and other outdoor pursuits as well as dining and shopping. We highly recommend this cabin and look forward to staying there in the future. Thank you for opening up your home to us!

Wonderful

While we only visited for two nights… It was a lovely stay. The house had exactly all the amenities as described and more cozy and quaint in person. We would love to visit again. Maybe this time in the summer to take advantage of the lake activities . The hiking was very close and made for a wonderful day for my family. And it’s hard to please teenagers these days. Happy holidays!

Hogback Heaven Cabin

My husband and I along with our 10 year old Sheltie stayed at this cabin Thursday November 14 to Monday November 18. What a wonderful cabin and perfect location. The cabin is well stocked and has everything one would need. The cabin is comfy and very cozy. We enjoyed sitting in the screened porch every afternoon and had a fire in fireplace every evening. The master bedroom bed is very comfortable. We loved our stay and will return.

Best Mountain Weekend Stay

We loved our weekend stay when we dropped our girls off at camp. It was so peaceful, clean, and beautiful! Our favorite spot to sit and relax was the screened in porch. Our dog was welcome and loved relaxing at the house and taking walks around the neighborhood. We will definitely stay here again!

My family spent 4 nights at this cabin. It is located in a gorgeous, wooded community. The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, and is stocked with everything you could possibly need. We loved the deck spacing, furniture, wood burning stove, property grounds, and the privacy. The host communicated with many recommendations and there were information binders to answer any questions. We loved it! Highly Recommended. Perfect mountain getaway

We’ve stayed at many different Vrbo properties over the years and this is one has to be one of our all time favorites. We loved the location and took advantage of the resort amenities access. This house, as other reviews have commented, is just so homey and comfortable, and has just about everything one would need, including lots of condiments in the kitchen and Keurig pods. We would love to stay here again for sure, when we come back to the area. We found the beds to be very comfy as well which is always something I look for in reviews, so wanted to give that a mention.

A wonderful mountain hideaway

We've visited the Cashiers/Sapphire, NC area before but this was our first time with a VRBO property. The cabin was well-appointed, very clean, and extremely comfortable. Gwenn was a delight to work with and very responsive.

Sapphire escape

This was a great place to escape the heat and humidity of FL! We enjoyed our time and the house had a ton of charm and comfort. The frig and kitchen appliances were all clean and in great shape. Wonderful stay in the mountains

We travel to the mountains twice a year and we always travel with our dog. This house is very nice and has everything you would ever need. The owners really make you feel welcome in their home from supplying k-cups for your morning coffee to brochures of beautiful sapphire and things to do. Would definitely stay at hog back again!

Hogback Heaven is a perfect name for this house!

We had the most wonderful time at this fabulous home. It’s beautiful inside and out and has everything we could possibly want. We enjoyed hiking and sightseeing during the day and evenings on the deck and screened in porch. It’s so peaceful with lush greenery and beautiful flowers all around. It’s a well loved property and we hope to stay again sometime!

The house was absolutely wonderful. Everything needed was at the house. Loved the screened porch. House is spotless. Only negative was lack of a/c unit in downstairs bedroom. There was an a/c unit in living room but downstairs bedroom door had to be left open to have air access and it barely cooled bedroom off.

80th birthday

We arrived to find the residence immaculate and a very convenient location for side trips and dinning. Everything we needed was available. The only problem we encountered as my being 80+ was negotiating the stairs from the parking area to the front porch. OK for younger folks, but not ideal for older individuals. An improvement might be filling the gravel in with concrete.

Home away from home

The area was beautiful and the home was on a hillside amongst the trees and within earshot of a creek. It is obviously used by the owner because instead of having the bare minimum as most the rental properties we've stayed in, it had everything you could possibly want to feel at home and make your stay comfortable and worry free. The beds were incredibly comfortable. The kitchen had everything you might need for cooking and serving. The screened in porch was great for sipping coffee in the morning and listening to birds and the creek. There was already dry firewood ready and waiting. A family trip becomes so much more enjoyable with all these little things already taken care of. Gwen was very friendly and communicative. Highly recommend this property to anyone.

Wonderful stay and wonderful host

We had a great time at Hogback Heaven! We came for President’s Day weekend and had a great time relaxing and exploring the area. Glenn is a gracious host and full of great Information. The house is very well stocked, and well appointed. There is a wood stove in the house and a large fireplace outside. It was too cold to spend much time outside but the porch space and (screened in porch) must be perfect in the warmer months. We also enjoyed a day of skiing at the small ski resort at Sapphire Valley (which offers 25 percent off of left tickets and rentals to members that you can take advantage of). We also played ping pong and swam at the community center. Some have noted the hot tubs are off limits for anyone under 14, but they are right next to the pool so we enjoyed sitting in them while our kids swam. We are a family of 6 and all slept comfortably. Highly recommended.

Your owners are Glenn and Gwenn Thomas and our permanent residence is Florida. When we retired several years ago we decided that we had to buy a house in NC so we could have a place to share with our family and others. We both have spent many summers in this area over the years.

Why they chose this property

When Gwenn's parents retired, they spent 26 summers in the area and each summer they kept their grandchildren for a month. You can only imagine the memories that were created! We too, want to help create memories for your family in this magical area of the world.

What makes this property unique

We have spent time at the house during each month of the year and we still can't determine which month is the best one to visit. Each month brings its own uniqueness. The winter time has the snow and all of the outdoor activities associated with it and the summer has the swimming pools and lake activities. Every single month allows for exploring the area; whether it is hiking, sight-seeing, bird watching, shopping, dining in the great restaurants or just enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
