Beautiful cottage with sea views and private beach access
Tremorna is an ancient fisherman's cottage perched above Helford Creek, with its own secluded garden and private beach access. It is superbly positioned with wonderful views from almost every room down the estuary towards the sea and, with its own private quay, is the perfect location for paddleboarding, sailing, canoeing, swimming and making the most of the glorious unspoilt waters of the Helford River.
It sits in the centre of the village, yards from shop and pub, yet has a hidden terraced garden with a large private water frontage with steps down to a private quay, accessible by boat at high tide, and with direct access to the shore. The garden is accessed through a gate a few steps across the lane in front of the cottage, and is a lovely secret spot to watch the ever-changing panorama of the river estuary, with a summer house an east-facing terrace overlooking the creek – perfect for sunny breakfasts.
The cottage has three double bedrooms, one of which has a double bed, the other two singles each. Downstairs there is a large kitchen opening to a small terrace with fabulous views down the estuary, and a spacious sitting room with a glorious open fire and thick cob walls. There is both a bathroom and a shower room.
Tremorna has a great air of peace and calm about it. It has been a holiday home for our family for five decades. We welcome guests who appreciate a cottage of great character in a stunning and totally unspoilt location, with access to one of Europe's most ecologically rich and beautiful estuaries.
We invite you to explore the Helford River, all its remote creeks, coves, woods and cliffs.
- Sleeps 6 in one double and two twin bedrooms (one of which has beds which can be linked into a double). - Sea views and access to the shore through garden. - Beds are made up with 100% cotton bed linen for guests' arrival. - Large drum washing machine/dryer, TV, wifi and microwave. - Off-lane parking for one car. - Large garden with beach access, summer house and terrace overlooking estuary. - Garden offers bench, table and chairs plus trees and lawn with steps to quay and beach. - Large kitchen with long wooden table seating 8, plus spacious sitting room with open fire. - 2 bathrooms (one is a shower room). - Used by current owners, children and grandchildren as holiday home for more 50 years.
Tremorna is superbly placed for walking and boating around the Helford River. With its water frontage and views, it is in one of the most desirable locations in the whole of the village of Helford.
The Helford River itself is a magical and totally unspoiled location for sailing, boating, walking, swimming and general outdoor relaxation.
The famous gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan are a short ferry ride away, and sand and shingle beaches, woods and cliffs are minutes away by footpath or boat. The whole of the glorious Lizard peninsula lies within about 20 minutes' car journey.

House was fabulous- the new kitchen and downstairs shower room are light and modern, the living room was really cosy, and beds were comfy. A great location too, right on the Helford River.

A very special house in a very special village
We had such a memorable week staying at Tremorna. The cottage is superbly located with amazing views from all of the bedrooms and a wonderful 'secret' garden right next to the river, perfect for lazy afternoons in the sunshine. Inside it's well-equipped, cosy and welcoming: clearly a much-loved family home. It's a stone's throw away from both a well-stocked village shop (serving freshly baked croissants every morning!) and from a beautifully situated pub (serving wood-fired pizzas every evening!). You really don't need to leave the village.
We couldn't quite believe our luck that we found this truly magical cottage. We'll be back!

Thanks Laura - so glad you enjoyed your stay. You're quite right, it is a much loved family home. Look forward to hearing from you soon!
Beautiful village, perfect location, stunning views
Beautiful riverside property that was very cozy and comfy - even in winter. The house is well equipped, the bedrooms are comfortable and the living room extremely cozy with the wonderful fire going. We had a few issues on checking in but Piers was super communicative in helping us get things sorted. The drive and the road into Helford is tight - just a heads up - but perfectly doable if you take your time. It adds to the charm of the village. Would be a beautiful place to stay in spring or late summer, but we had a wonderful time even in winter. Helford is a lovely village with a wonderful shop and a great local pub. I recommend the Frenchman's creek walk from the house and also easy access to Lizard and the S-W coast path. Will be back for sure.

Could do better for winter guests
We love Cornwall in winter. Helford is lovely....but this isn't a great winter property! In winter. It's cold. No central heating, but ancient night storage heaters (and not switched on for our arrival?). There is an open fire in the lounge with some wood provided, so you'll need to buy more....just don't use the local shop - she must have chopped it down that day. Burning wet wood in an open fire is rather pointless!
The cottage itself was clean and generally well maintained and in a great location 2 mins walk away from the Shipwrights arms pub which is excellent. The garden area across the road will be beautiful in summer without a doubt and all of the bedrooms had views over the estuary.
It has to be noted though that we were baffled by the 19p per unit 'electric meter charge' which isn't mentioned in the booking info info. Although there was an oil filled electric radiator and a heat fan provided this was mid winter, we were certainly not willing to be hit with per unit electric charge which were not made aware of! So it was ignored out of principle - such charges should be made clear at the booking stage. If it isn't applicable the 'red electric unit book' should not be left out in the middle of the kitchen table for confused unsuspecting guests!
Overall Helford is lovely and the cottage itself would be fine for summer however in our opinion we have found better, much cosier and hospitable cottages for winter stays in Cornwall.

We're very sorry you were disappointed with your stay at the cottage. We really want all our guests to have a lovely time – and to be thoroughly warm!
I’ve spoken to our housekeeper and she has confirmed that the night storage heaters were switched on as normal before your arrival. But I now realise that when you arrived it was unusually cold – temperatures had been below freezing the night before, which is rare in south Cornwall.
I can only apologise we didn’t do more to warm the cottage for your arrival. We have reviewed our arrangements and decided that in future we will turn on the kitchen radiator prior to tenants’ arrival, and if the weather is particularly cold, the electric boost on the living room night storage heater.
On the point about the electric meter charge, I’m sorry to have confused you there – but to be very clear, there are NO additional charges beyond the rent.
Until recently we did ask tenants to pay for the electricity they used, but always explained this in advance. However, we no longer do this. The mistake I made was not to tell our housekeeper to remove the book where tenants used to record their electric usage! I'm sorry that that confused you.
I’m not quite clear if you used the portable radiator and electric boost in the living room. In cold weather you need to use these to keep the cottage warm, and I can vouch for the fact that they pump out loads of heat. Our family has owned the cottage for 50 years and we have spent many Christmasses there and have always been warm and happy. Once we were even snowed in to the village for several days. This is also the first time we have ever had a complaint about the cold.
However, thank you for your very useful feedback. We do take your comments very seriously and once again I’d like to apologise about the cold and the confusion.
The cottage should feel warm when any guest arrives, and we will double our efforts to make sure it does in future.
Really good welcome pack sent in advance. Incredible location with the waterfront and use of a kayak. Having the summer house as well was really useful because I brought a bike. Lovely local shop and pub. Friendly neighbours. Good WiFi.
Overlooking the picturesque Helford Creek, an authentic cottage that has been brought, tastefully, up to date. A real place to relax and use as a base for exploring The Lizard.
Location, Location, Location. 2 minutes from the pub. Lovely garden on the river front. Very quiet area. We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas at Tremorna, we did not want for anything. We even managed to sit outside in the sunshine on Christmas Day ! Sorting dates for a return visit.
We had a super time at this gorgeous little cottage! It was well equipped with everything we needed; nicely decorated and brilliantly positioned with the best garden in Helford! Ideal for crabbing, canoeing and low key sailing with kids with an excellent pub and village shop 5 mins away. Thanks so much for a fabulous holiday!
We were so happy to have found this little gem. The location was to die for and the cottage very cute and homely with lots of character and charm. The secret garden was a joy, overlooking the river and getting the sun almost all day. We were blessed with the weather too.
We also found a lovely pub in nearby Manaccan which can be accessed by a short walk through pretty woodland (less than a mile) with great good value food. There is a lot of very pretty places to visit close by too including Porth Leven, a pretty fishing harbour with nice shops and places to eat. I can also recommend a visit to Coverack, another lovely coastal village. We will definitely consider another visit next year.

Nice family holiday home
Quiet village, good pub, swimming limited by tides so bear in mind if that's why you're choosing this waterside property

It's worth pointing out that you can swim at any state of the tide from the lovely beaches on the Helford estuary (which is where we normally swim). It's only swimming from the shore directly below the cottage that isn't possible when the tide is out.

Lovely cottage in a delightful location
The cottage was exactly what we expected and was clean and comfortable. Everything worked and we were welcomed by a nearly ready pot-of-tea and lovely cake. Found the smallish single beds very comfortable and slept very well with the sea air and magnificent views down the Helford.

Peaceful setting
Cottage was lovely. We went in February and it was lovely and warm with fire and heaters if you needed them. We were lucky with the weather and it was mild so didn't need them ! Plenty of kitchen equipment and lovely daffodils left by Liz the housekeeper- thankyou. Their smell was gorgeous to come back to! The village is beautiful with tide in or out. Even sat in the garden in February admiring that view. You soon get used to which roads to get in and out towards the main roads as some of them are a little narrow to say the least as we found out due to roadworks!
Thanks Piers- a lovely place to stay

Homely cottage in an idyllic setting
A cosy riverside cottage in Helford village, we experienced some wild weather during our stay but the cottage provided a welcome retreat after exploring the local area. A lovely homely feel and a creekside location means there's always something to catch your attention. The local pub has a splendid ambience and the food is fabulous!

A charming, relaxing and cosy cottage.
We loved this holiday so much we didn't want to leave. Helford will always hold happy memories for us. There were 7 of us altogether staying at the cottage and there was plenty of room. The beds were extremely comfortable ensuring a good nights sleep, but then the fresh air and the cosiness of an open fire helped with that.
The separate garden was an added luxury. We did manage to sit in it on our last evening with a glass of wine soaking up the magnificent views.
The local pub is charming and very friendly. They had a Caribbean night the night we arrived but we decided to stay in by the fire. We wish we had of gone after we heard what a brilliant night everyone had.
We highly recommended this cottage for a quiet chill out holiday. It's definitely a magical cottage to come and recharge your batteries.

Beautiful
We had a really lovely stay...the cottage was so nice ... clean and pretty... and fitted my husband and I, my sister and four kids perfectly...
we even brought the dog which was a bonus...
The garden was so so beautiful...we could sit and watch the birds and swans..have our coffee or wine...delightful.
There was a shop a minute away and a lovely welcoming pub a few mins away that cooked great food and welcomed the kids.
We had a great short break.. relaxing and peaceful...and safe for the children too... as they explored...We all wished we had booked to stay longer!!!
Thank you so much
