About this property

Charming Country Home Nestled In Kenwood Village the heart of the wine country.

Maison Jacqueline is a country home located in Sonoma county's Valley of the Moon and in the heart of the wine county. It is in Kenwood which is about 1.5 hours from SF airport. Maison Jacqueline is a country cottage styled with good taste and comfort, combining local charm and modern living. When you cross over the foot bridge and enter through the gate you feel instantly relaxed, especially when you see the hot tub...wink...and the beautiful front yard. It has 3 bedrooms, 1 den, 2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen with indoor and out door dining areas. The living room has a flat screen TV giving friends and family a center for entertainment. There is a wrap around deck with a gas grill, a dining area and a lounge area. Maison Jacqueline has been renovated, featuring new hardwood floors, windows, new appliances and fixtures. The hot tub tucked away under the plum trees, gives it privacy and a romantic feeling, it's a little piece of heaven...
The scenic drive from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco is just the beginning of your amazing getaway. Lakeview highway is the route that takes you through hills and valleys covered in grape vines and fields of wheat as far as the eye can see. You will see horse ranches ranging from “mini” horses, and sheep grazing peacefully through hills and valleys. It will take your breath away! Stop at the eclectic Earnie’s Tin Bar frequented by the locals for a sophisticated microbrew on your way. Quirky and fun! End your 1.5 hour journey from SF at the doorstep of Maison Jacqueline. A breath of fresh air and a pocket of heaven.

Google Sonoma County Regional Parks facilities. It's a great site for out door activities.

Kenwood is in the heart of Sonoma wine country, lying east of Sonoma Creek in the upper part of Sonoma Valley. “The Valley of the Moon”. Bennett Mountain lies west of the town, and Sugarloaf Ridge to the northeast. There are 3 state parks in the vicinity where mountain biking and hiking are to die for. If you can bring your bikes it is a terrific area for biking and touring the countryside.

As you drive through Glen Ellen on your way here, you may want to stop and pick up wine, cheese, local produce, dairy, meats, and fish at The Glen Ellen Village Market (right side of Arnold), boasting an amazing deli with beautiful food to go. Across the street you will notice Les Pascals a Patisserie that is amazing !!! It is owned by a French couple, who will transform your tastebuds and heart to a French country bakery experience. A few steps away is the Saloon/ bar and grill, a former haunt of Jack London. It's a favorite watering hole where the locals go to catch up on the local goings on. And you can it outside along the river, a peaceful place to gather.

Once you have settled in, you may want to walk over to Muscardini's wine tasting room, just a couple of blocks up Cypress Ave on the corner of Hwy 12. It’s a local favorite. Sit out side and enjoy the view. Or, cool off in their wine tasting room. If your lucky James will be there, he plays super cool music and will give you a wine tasting you will totally enjoy. VJB is 2 blocks up 12 just before Cafe Citti. It has a gorgeous wine tasitng room and a fabulous deli dept. VJB is a family owned vineyard, who are originally from Itlay. Visit their high quality deli and their own locally produced wines. Kunde and Kenwood wineries are up Cypress on an route 12, both have good wine and lovely tasting rooms with out door seating.

Kenwood village is only 4 blocks away. Try Palooza, a fun casual beer and wine bar with great food and locally brewed beer and ales. Most nights they have Ping Pong tournaments ! Café Citti, just before Kenwood village on 12 has "light" Northern Italian cuisine with a casual atmosphere, home made pastas and sauces, just like Nonna would make. Salt and Stone is wonderful and has good bar area that serves food if you feel spontaneous and don't have reservations. Or just relax, have a glass of wine. Take a hot tub, and/or lay in the hammock to read or check your email.

Activities close by:
Sonoma Valley is full of fun things to do. Whether you're into bird watching or skydiving, hiking, picnicking, horseback riding, or biking, ballooning, golfing, or gliding, there's something fun for everyone in our area. If you’d like to see the Pacific ocean, it’s about an hour drive out to the coast. Good oyster tasting, kayaking, and walks on the beach.

To get even more relaxed we can arrange for a private chef and/or massage therapists on site. And there is one of the World's top spas rated by Conde Nast magazine just a couple of minutes up on 12, with a lovely pool.

Sonoma Valley has been rated as one of the top destinations in the world for food and wine. Come on up...

Sonoma Square:
Is a 15-minute drive from Kenwood. There are unique shops, a multitude of restaurants, and a wonderful cheese store right there on the square. A farmers market is held on weekends.

My favorite restaurant on the square is “The Girl and the Fig” It is wonderful! A must “go to” restaurant. I advise making reservations ahead of time. She also has a sister restaurant in the town of Glen Ellen only 7 minutes down Rt. 12 that is equally delicious.

Suggestions of local wineries:
Kunde, Chateau Sr jean, Matanzas, BR Cohn, Chalk Hill, Schug, Anaba, Sabastiani, Tin Barn, Gloria Ferrer, Armida.

I love Kunde right across the street on 12. The wine is delicious and the outdoor tasting area is in a gorgeous setting. The people who work there are terrific, and I recommend taking the cave tour, it’s free and very informative.

Things to do:
Sonoma Valley is alive with activities and places to go. Morton’s Hot Springs on Warm Springs Road is traditional for families who grew up in the bay area. Take a swim, have a picnic by the creek. Relax no worries…

Host profile image
I am Jackie Slade, the proud owner of this sweet house. Previously I was a Chef, a Restaurant owner, and currently a Food Stylist. I love music, animals, birds, food and of course wine. I am listening to Eva Cassidy as we speak. Originally from Connecticut, I went to college in Boston, chefed and summered on Cape Cod, lived and worked in NY and Key West until I moved to SF. The bay area is an amazing place with many micro climates and cultural atmospheres. I used to own a pizza restaurant called Pie in the Sky in Key West. So fun. After that I developed my skills cooking real food, (not that pizza isn't real food), at Las Palmas in Key West and Care Edwige in Provincetown. The fisherman would bring red snapper and yellow tail, bass and other local seafood to my back door and It would be on the tables that night. When I moved to SF it rained every day. UGHH. I fell into property management, then fell in love with SF. I was a saute chef at Zuni Cafe, a cousin restaurant to Chez Panisse.
Currently I am a Food Stylist, based in San Rafael, SF, and the Bay area. My food styling studio is called "The Food Loft" . It is where we stage, and photograph food for media, film, video, and print. Maison jacqueline will be an extension of Slade Designs and the Food Loft. It is very exciting! I am very lucky. We also have cooking classes at the loft for food styling and lighting. I plan on giving life style classes at my maison.
My passion is FOOD. I love the way it looks, how it tastes, it's textures, cooking it, eating it, styling and photographing it, the combinations are endless. Enough about me. What about you?

Why they chose this property

When you come here you will know why... it is heaven here. When I walked across the bridge and over the creek I knew it was the right place. They say you can just tell. I remember asking Doug Hecker (my realtor) "so where is Kenwood" ?
It is in the perfect location, right in the middle of wine country. It is so beautiful there. You can walk to several wineries and restaurants. There are several state parks for hiking and biking. The weather is always nice all year round. It's hot in the summer and always cools off at night. It is a great place for families and friends to get together. And it is not too far from San Francisco.
I bought this property because it had good bones and for its perfect location.
160 Cypress Ave was a major "fixer upper" The inspector went over the house with a fine tooth comb. He liked it , said it had good bones. But he did leave me with a 65 page very detailed "to do" list. He also recommended Bill Greffly. Bill loves a good list, especially a 65 page one. I call Bill the house whisperer... He is calming and meticulous, and very good with the clients. That would be me..And he knows the right electricians, plumbers, floor guys, etc. You know, the local talent. Anyone one would be lucky to have Bill Greffly take care of their house. Don't worry Bill there is always more to do. He helped me make 160 Cypress St beautiful inside and out.

What makes this property unique

Maison Jacqueline has this calming affect as soon as you walk over the bridge on to the property. I love the wrap around porch, getting in the hot tub early in the morning and listening to the song birds. It has really good light. If you like to cook there's an out door grill, and a well equipped kitchen. It's special, every one thinks so. The weather is perfect all year. Hardly any humidity, and no bugs, mostly sunny, and cool at night.
It's is decorated tastefully and it is very comfortable. It mixes country flavor with contemporary style.
It is only a 1.5 hour drive from SF.
Location, location location.
Kenwood is perfectly located in the heart of wine country. There are also great spas close by, and Calistoga in only a half hour away. They too good spas.
And;
Of course, Wine......yes, wine. And there are lots of good restaurants close by.
There is no stress here.
I hope you come here. It will make you all very happy. Promise.
