Tranquil Mirror Lake Paradise With Large Screened-in Porch!
This charming retreat sits at the top of Hickory Hill Road near Mirror Lake on a gorgeous 1.5-acre piece of property just a mile from the heart of downtown Highlands. The snug interior is a combination of heirloom/folk charm and contemporary amenities, including central air conditioning and furnace, Smart TV with live television, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max. Also, DVD player, washer/dryer, and a full-sized fireplace with ample dry firewood stored beneath the porch.
The house has three bedrooms – two twins, two queens, and a king – each with its own full bath. The two front bathrooms were recently fully renovated with walk-in showers. The modern master features a cozy king-size bed, expansive bath, walk-in closet, and its own deck. The dependable kitchen includes a classic stove and range, full-size refrigerator, and all you need to prepare a delicious meal.
The large screened-in back porch is where you will want to spend most of your time, listening to the wind rustle through the trees, hearing the birds sing, and breathing the clear mountain air. Enjoy a glass of wine while preparing steaks on the grill, or follow the path that leads to the secluded pond.
Spring and fall are great times to enjoy the front yard fire pit. Another option is to take a short walk down Hickory Hill to feed the ducks on picturesque Mirror Lake where you might also be inclined to cast a fly rod or cruise the serene waters in a kayak or canoe. Just beyond Mirror Lake is the new Highlands Plateau Greenway trail that will lead you on a scenic hike along a gorgeous nature trail, or directly into town if you are so inclined.

The house was so comfortable and fully stocked for whatever we needed. It was perfect for my mom that is on a walker and was easy for her to get around. We especially loved the screened in back porch and spent most of our time out there. Five stars all the way around.
We loved our stay here while in Highlands. It was very close to town and very peaceful at the same time. The house had everything we ever needed, especially the kitchen. Thank you!
We stayed here for a family wedding that was happening in Highlands. The house was very clean, well stocked with anything we could need. The beds were all very comfortable. And we spent most of our time there enjoying the big screened in porch! It was a perfect place for us!
It was the perfect house for a weekend stay! Spacious rooms with a bathroom in each, and the highlight was the peaceful back porch where we spent most of our time. The location of the house was also great with an 8 minute drive from downtown. Would absolutely recommend!
There were 3 couples in our group attending a wedding in Highlands. The property was wonderful and perfect for our group. Having 3 bathrooms was ideal and LOVE the back porch. Would absolutely stay again!
My family and I stayed here for a wedding--it was perfect. The house is lovely with a lot of interesting art and decorations. We did have a toddler, so we took a minute to child-proof and put some beautiful but breakable things up higher! We are already planning our next trip and hope to stay here again!
We enjoyed this beautiful 3 bed 3 bath home. It's was decorated nicely with room to spread out. Didn't really mind having to use the ice trays! We would absolutely rent this home again. Locked ourselves out and the owner was very helpful when I contacted her.
Highlands family home full of folk art and memorabilia. Updated bathrooms and very comfortable bed in main bedroom. (Did not try others). Great screen porch for rainy Highland days. Very convenient location
"Tranquil" is an apt description for this property. It is located close to the shopping areas of Highlands--a short drive. The house is spacious. The master bedroom was well-appointed. The master bath featured a jetted tub/shower combo. The property was very clean and well-stocked, but, in my view, a bit "tired." The kitchen appeared to be the original kitchen (may 1950s?). Our primary objection was the strong smoke odor from the fireplace, which hits you immediately upon unlocking the front door. We tried to air out the house as much as we could but the odor persisted. I notified the owner but she was unaware of this issue and asked if it was cigarette smoke odor, as this is a no-smoking property. We suspect that the fireplace flue does not draw properly. I have not heard back from her. The furnishings on the screened-in porch appeared to have been purchased from a flea market; not at all inviting. The wood furniture looked very "weathered." The sofa looked to be a cast-off from someone's living room and was not comfortable to sit on; the glider sofa's base was rusted--you could see that it was once painted but rust had taken over. Other pieces were either rusted or very weathered. You could see that some pieces had once held a coat of paint but no longer. The furniture outside of the master bedroom was covered in "fur"--yellow moss maybe. You could not sit on it. I have taken several pictures, but can't upload them. Please advise how to do so.
So peaceful…after a rough day hiking we brought food in and had dinner on the back porch. Wives loved the added touches and pottery accessories. Definitely 5 stars
We had a wonderful stay here and would have liked for it to be longer! The house is warm and inviting and well furnished. It is very roomy, with three bedrooms and separate in-suite baths, much more a real home than some mountain cabins in the area. The large screened-in porch on the back is delightful, and a special memory of the trip was sitting out there during a heavy rainstorm. In addition, we have always loved the Mirror Lake area, which is a great area for walking around, and it was a pleasant surprise to learn that there is actually a trail (paved most of the way) that can be taken right into town. We would definitely stay here again and look forward to the next time..
We were a group of ladies on a golf trip and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The back porch was such a great place to relax and visit. Loved the primitive artwork and pottery collection. Convenient location to shops and dining but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Very comfortable beds!
Enjoyed the cool temperatures in the woods but so close to town. House comfortable and well appointed with character. Really enjoyed the visit and plan to return annually
I absolutely loved the house. It is exactly what the listing says. Property is beautiful. Easy to walk from car to house ( I’m 73).
My favorites were the sound system, back porch , pottery, art work and retro kitchen.
I’ve been renting in highlands for this weekend for 30 years and this is the best yet!
We brought my mom up to see the fall foliage it was beautiful and the perfect weekend at the perfect place. The house was wonderful. The beds were so comfy. The back porch was nice. We were gone a lot during the day, but enjoyed it during the mornings. Perfect location to town kitchen Well stocked even though we ate out most of the time. It was 50’s era cottage perfect house for our family. We will be back
Everything was just as presented on the website.
Easy instructions, check-in,& check-out.
Bee & Pat were great! - especially with the little TV snafu!😉
Would definitely come back to this great house!
I really wanted to like this property as the location is very convenient but it needs some TLC. The house is dark with a very musty smell and looks like it hasn’t been updated since built (1960’s?). Dirty, stained area rug and bath mats in master bed/bath and black mildew/mold on the bedroom ceiling. We did not use the other bed and bathrooms as there were only two of us. A good deep cleaning and updating would go a long way in bringing this house up to standard. I will not rent this again until done so.
