Fabulous place, stunning scenery, never seen such a spectacular sunset. Felt very spoiled with all the food/drink provisions; cannot say enough good things about this place. A grand experience and would love to come back. Thank you Lesley
This beautiful home overlooks Belle Island with the best views and sunsets, bar none! Lesley was extremely communicative and accommodating! I cannot wait to stay here again and many whales and porpoises made it icing on the cake!
Wonderful place to stay! Close to St. John’s and highway connections. Outstanding view and lovely breezes. Sea birds and lapping waves serenading at night. Helpful and friendly hosts. Highly recommend this home.
Had a wonderful time at this getaway. Lesley has supplied all the necessary ingredients for a wonderful stay. The serenity of the area added to a relaxing, rejuvenating experience. We hope to return some day.
We spent 4 nights at this home. It was comfortable, beautiful views! Saw whales 2 different days. The owner was great with communication, and the house has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Would highly recommend this property. Only 20-25 pretty drive to the St. John’s waterfront. Quiet, serene and beautiful views.
The cottage was spotless and very cosy. The view out over to Bell Island is stunning and sitting out on the deck under blankets watching the sunset is a lovely way to end the day. The cottage was very generously provisioned when we arrived and fantastic fish is only a short walk away
This is an outstanding property. It was difficult for us to leave. It is a good base for travels, including to St Johns. However, we also had time when we didn't go anywhere. We found it so relaxing to sit on the deck and watch the water and the Bell Island Ferry. If you enjoy hiking, a trail starts right at the end of the driveway. It is a challenging path. The house was super clean and Lesley has left no stone unturned when it comes to the details. We had one night when we did a supper pick up at the local restaurant. Other nights, we stayed at the house and made our own supper. One of the best vacation rentals we have had!
The rental process for this great property was smooth from beginning to end. Thanks Lesley! The cottage was well stocked and comfortable and of course the view was amazing. Close enough to downtown but seemingly worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city. How relaxing to sit out on the deck with a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine after a day of exploring. We were not lucky enough to see any whales ,but did enjoy watching the 2 bald eagles that flew by every day.
We look forward to our next visit to beautiful Newfoundland.
You must stay here! The house is beautiful & beautifully appointed. And the views are better than the house.
It’s a nothing drive into St John’s, and parking there is plentiful and cheap. So you get all the buzz of the biggest city in NL plus the spectacular Portugal Cove and this lovely home.
All of Lesley’s recommendations for food & things to do were excellent.
We stayed from July 15 to 22 and had a wonderful stay at this property. We truly believe we could not have gotten better based on the property itself, location and the abundance of whales we saw daily from the deck.
On the weekend we would watch people fish which we quite enjoyed.
The home has everything we needed and more. Check in was easy which was nice after a long day.
We are planning a return trip and this property is the top of our list.
Absolutely amazing!
Thank you

Lovely Oceanside Retreat
The house was everything promised and more! Portugal Cove is a cozy retreat from the busyness of the St. John's area, and it offers easy access to both the larger city and surrounding costal communities. We enjoyed sunset views of Conception Bay and Bell Island. Everyone we met was super friendly and accommodating. Our host was great (!) and offered suggestions for hiking, bird / whale watching, and restaurants. We hiked several segments of the East Coast Trail with awesome views of scenery and wildlife. O'Brien's tours was a great way to see the ecological preserves. Merchant Tavern (St. John's) and By the Beach (Portugal Cove - best fish and chips for sure!!) were two of our favorite places to eat.
The house was clean, kitchen well stocked, and bed very comfortable. In short - we had an amazing time in an amazing place.

Breathtaking views from a house with all the amenities
We stayed for 3 nights at the start of our trip to Newfoundland this August. We had looked for a house that combined the comforts of home with beautiful ocean views, and we found it!
The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, utensils and cooking supplies. There was a large living/dining area with comfortable couches, a brand new entertainment centre, and an audio system that let us play music throughout the house. In addition, there were several outdoor seating and/or eating areas, with great views of the water, the harbour, and the island in the bay.
While the house was located in the quiet village of Portugal Cove, we could still get to a large shopping area with a full grocery and other retail in about 20 minutes. Downtown St. John's was a little over 30 minutes away.
The house is located at the start of a local hiking trail that also serves as an access to local fishing spots, and we enjoyed seeing the slice of local life as people came to fish for dinner or go for a hike throughout the weekend.
We also got to watch whales in the harbour right from the deck one morning!

Amazing
We were so lucky to have the sun shine on this beautiful home, the deck area is a fantastic place to sit and watch the ocean, the house had beautiful comfortable furnishings, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen or bathroom, if you forget anything they have it covered, we were pleased to find milk and orange juice in the fridge and plenty of coffee, it meant we didn’t have to go grocery shopping after a long flight.
The TV and internet were great, the house was lovely, we sat on the deck as much as possible and watched the sun set every night.
I remember reading some reviews complaining about people parking to go on the trail, this didn’t bother us one bit, we were happy to share such a stunning view and there were very few of them.
There were plenty of towels, we didn’t cook but there was everything you could possibly need.
If I was made to find a negative, it would be the guilty feeling if you wanted to watch TV, coming inside leaving that beautiful view.
This is quite an expensive rental, as they saying goes “you get what you pay for” and you certainly do.

Beautiful Cottage with stunning views on the East Coast Trail
We loved our stay at this immaculate and well equipped modern cottage. The deck juts out at waters edge for beautiful vistas of Conception Bay and Bell's island. The cottage is very well equipped with all the modern conveniences and lots of unexpected frills including fixings for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our easy access to the sights and restaurants of St. John's as well as the charms of the small community of Portugal Cove. The house fronts directly on the water and the front lawn ends at the start of the challenging Picco's Ridge segment of the East Coast Trail. This was an amazing property to stay in and we highly recommend it!

Short Beach
We very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely little house at the end of a road not far from the ferry in Portugal Cove-St Phillips. Lesley and John, owners with whom we interacted, were warm, welcoming and responsive to our needs. They were generous about supplying kitchen and bathroom items. Beds and furniture were very comfortable and the kitchen very workable. The location has its pros and cons. Mostly pros. The setting is gorgeous, with a view of Conception Bay and Bell Island. Only yards from the front door of the house is a trail head for the Eastern Trail. We were there during cod fishing season so between hikers and people going fishing there was a steady flow of car and foot traffic from early in the morning until late at night. So much so that the road in front of the house was very much a parking lot and people congregated there, talking loudly and leaving trash behind. The place was so nice that we adapted to this unexpected dynamic but we might not have chosen this spot if we'd known. But we happened to be looking for quiet. Someone else might not mind. Also, I take it this traffic depends on the season so you may want to inquire about it before making your booking. All in all we were very pleased with our time at this property.

Beautifully decorated, comfy and everything you need for your stay.
This place is a little slice of heaven.. The view is spectacular, and the locals are so friendly. Im sad to leave. I recommend this place to anyone! Oh on a side note, we had whales in abundance. On our last day, we had two whales put on a little show for us just as a little farwell gift.

Unbelievable Views! Every amenity needed for a private rental.
This place is beyond expectations! Absolutely Amazing! I'm from this amazing town within walking distance to my family home, But ive always stopped by this house on the dead end road to walk the trail on most holidays from Ontario 2-3 times per year. Always wondered and dreamt to see inside, let alone stay there. Truly spectacular place! Highly recommended! Looking forward to staying next year same time, or earlier if so lucky!
As would be expected with travelling tourists or clientele in a private rental like this, most common cooking ingredients and other misc condiment products needed for meals and such are left behind for future guests making it easy for entertaining family or guests. The outdoor deck and Bbq are a truly added bonus.
Lesley was very informative and helpful in every email, phone conversation regarding the premises.

Ideal Vacation Home
Just have to say what a beautiful property this was. We stayed for 5 nights and used it as our base for touring the St. John's area, sight-seeing and hiking. The owners have thought of everything here. Comfortable, clean & convenient - yes, but so well-designed and decorated! We spent the few dry evenings on the unique deck toasting to the sunset. It is located right at the East Coast Trail trailhead, so bit of traffic there with folks either parking or turning around. It's a short walk to the Bell Island ferry and an easy drive into the city of St. John's.
Thank you for this wonderful memory!

Gorgeous home.Gorgeous view.
Thank you for sharing your home Lesley...it was a wonderful vacation. Saw whales and eagles everyday while sitting in the comfortable Adirondack chairs on that part of your deck which is literally above the waters. Wonderful.
