Great place

Convenient to Evergreen and Conifer. Can't beat the views. Very clean, private access and good internet(yeah!). It is small, so not the best for cooking in and our wish would be a new grill. Terrific host and extremely quiet neighborhood. We would definitely stay there again.

mountain retreat in a gorgeous town

This place was exactly what we were looking for. It was cozy and clean, located in the mountains with beautiful views and situated near many local restaurants and hiking spots. Kitty was a perfect host offering everything we needed and more. She was so kind and made us feel so welcome. She also gave us many wonderful suggestions on things to do and places to eat at. We would definitely come back and stay with Kitty.

First time in Colorado - everything I could have dreamed!!

The place was perfect for us. It had everything we needed and then some. The deck was beautiful in the morning to enjoy some coffee before we went out for the day. The location is close to Red Rocks which was nice because we went to a concert there and it was easy getting home so late at night! We also did 2 day trips to Idaho Springs and Boulder. Both were great and we definitely recommend! The first night we went to a Mexican restaurant in Evergreen called Kalaka Evergreen which was very yummy! We explored a few coffee shops in the area and went to Little Bear for live music on Thursday. Kitty gave many great suggestions along with her past guests who wrote in her books. If you need anything during your stay, Kitty is more than welcome to help. I definitely recommend this rental! We hope to be back.

Kitty has been the best hostess I have ever had!! A super lovely woman that gave us all kind of tips and ideas during our stay. Always there to help. Moreover, the apt is very clean, cozy and comfortable for 3. The steam bath is amazing and the views are unparalleled. We will go back for sure in winter time!!

Great Mountain view.

I had a great stay at this property. Kitty was a great host. The property is a warm, inviting 1 bedroom/ eating area. Perfect for a couple. There is a kitchen area and bathroom with a steam shower. Host provided everything you would need for a comfortable stay. There is a deck with a beautiful view of the mountains. Host is full of information about the local area. A great resource for those whose like to do things "off the beaten track". A++

Colorado outdoors from every direction

Perfect set-up for my stay in Evergreen area. Bright and sunny room with windows and doors opening to Colorado scenery and fresh air on 3 sides. One side of roomy bedroom and sitting area opened through sliding glass door to small patio and grassy area with vegetable garden. Second side had window with beautiful views to the west. Third side had windows and door to nice roomy private deck. Bed was very comfortable, kitchen was compact but perfectly adequate for my stay (and lots of small food items supplied), very nice bathroom with roomy and beautifully tiled shower which had steam option. Many sporting items available for use (bicycles, etc.) and lots of information available for everything of interest nearby, but I did not use much because I was in town to attend all day art classes. Easy 5 minute drive to town. Was given access to put car in garage, which was a bit snug but none-the-less nice to be able to use. Only drawback was that I enjoy walking in early morning or evening and roads in neighborhood were fairly steep for walking. Very quiet neighborhood though and walked past deer quietly bedded down about 10 feet away in small meadow on first evening. Kitty was very available for any questions, while still giving me total privacy at all times. Would certainly stay again.

Homey, comfortable, gorgeous and our little piece of paradise for a week!

We stayed in this gorgeous studio apartment the week of April 11, 2016. It was our first time ever trying out VRBO as well as first trip to Colorado. My husband and I found it to be perfect. It is the perfect location to see a lot of the beauty of Colorado. We mined everything within a two-hour radius from riding the Cog Train up Pikes Peak to touring the Coors Brewery. The apartment is just as described although the pics don't quite do it justice. It has a magnificent view of the mountains. The full size fridge and the kitchen made it easy to fix breakfast each morning and snack when we finally landed back "home" each evening. The washer and dryer are great so you don't have to take home a suitcase of dirty laundry. The bed is super comfortable and tv and WiFi service are great. My husband had a pretty bad cold when we arrived but the steam shower worked wonders. He sat in it every night and by the time we left he was a new man. We did see fox and elk in the neighborhood. I was intrigued to learn of bear and mountain lions in the area, but was just as glad that we didn't see them. Kitty has a great folder prepared and waiting on the table when you arrive with loads of ideas, maps and brochures. She is super-sweet and helpful. She was a fabulous host. Thanks Kitty for a great experience in Colorado. You were the best and your place is beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Ideal Mountain Escape Property with an Ideal Hostess

I would never stay anywhere else on a future trip to the Denver area. We had an amazing vacation and it all started with this booking. It's hard to know where to start, what made our vacation better: Kitty or her wonderful home? Kitty was a fantastic hostess. She was available and helpful, but not intrusive at all. Truthfully, one could book a trip and not do another piece of research and rely solely on Kitty's guidance. She gave us invaluable insight into places to hike, places to eat, and things to see. She even prepared a fantastic booklet with brochures and maps and handwritten recommendations for her guests. Google is nothing compared to the resource you have in Kitty. She was intuitive, gracious and helpful. The property is truly special. The views are better than pictures can capture. Waking up each morning was a true pleasure because of the breathtaking panorama visible from the bed if one chooses to leave the blinds drawn, which we did. The property is located mere minutes from fantastic dining and entertainment options and only a short drive from many breathtaking hikes and parks. The studio is cozy without being cramped and very comfortable. The place was impeccably clean and well-maintained. The shower and steam bath were an amazing treat during our cold winter stay. We enjoyed the property so much that we made sure to spend time sitting around the studio, which I don't ever recall doing at even the nicest hotel rooms. (I work in Architecture and Engineering on full service hotels like Four Seasons and I stay at mostly JWs and Grand Hyatts for work, so I would argue I am a pretty good voice on the matter.) I gladly recommend this property without reservation. If you are fortunate enough to book this property, you are in for a wonderful wonderful vacation.

A Little Piece of Heaven in the Rockies

Kitty was a wonderful hostess and the apartment was wonderful. She went above and beyond what we expected with her little salad garden, goodies in the fridge. and to top it off a steam shower with essential oils. We had everything we could possibly need. We even were told to use the garage for parking. We had a fantastic view from the front deck and a cool spot to sit and watch the wildlife on the back porch. A nice cool breeze at night kept us comfortable (we were not there too much in the day time hours). The bed was comfortable and so was the room we had. Nice television with satellite and free wifi. Perfec for a quiet stay for 2. The room had two dressers to store your clothing and a rack to hang clothes as well. It had a washer and dryer and everything you needed to cook a meal in the "kitchenette" (microwave, coffeemaker, small sink, a portable burner, electric egg poacher and other appliances), pots, pans and all that you need. She even furnished us with coffee, sugar, jam, creamer, bread, some fruit, and a couple of beers in the fridge. Kitty gave us great recommendations to places to eat and to see around Evergreen and they were spot on. She provided a folder with her reviews and brochures for restaurants and attractions in the area. You must go to The Den to eat. It's a little whole in the wall place down the street from the property, but the food (the pizza) is amazing there. They have live music from time to time as well. She provided great customer service as she was on property. She even took pics of us so we could be in the same pictures of us and the beautiful mountain sunset you could see off her deck. If we needed anything (and we didn't) all we had to do was knock. We usually never go back to visit the same place twice as we want to explore more corners of the country, but we are really thinking about going back to Himmelhaus, as it was truly a nice place to stay. Thank you Kitty Gallas for that.

An unforgettable stay, for all the right reasons!

We highly recommend this property for any couple or single person searching for a peaceful base from which to explore the surrounding area. The location is beautiful, with stunning views to greet you each morning as you sit at the dining table or outside on the deck. The weather was warm and comfortable during our stay in late August/early September, with a rain shower most afternoons around 2pm. Bring layers for the cooler mountain air, particularly for those elevations! Kitty was an ideal host; kind, generous and helpful. We made good use of the kitchen appliances provided, including the microwave, toaster, countertop stove (two rings) and crock pot. If there was anything extra we needed, Kitty was only a knock away. Her offer of mountain bikes/kayaks/inner tubes and the associated accessories to borrow was much appreciated; this made our exploration of Evergreen and the nearby towns even more memorable. We were also grateful to be able to lock our car in the garage overnight. The lodging is cosy and comfortable - exactly what you need after a long day of hiking in the mountains! The steam shower was a real luxury and electric heating is available for the chillier nights. Kitty maintains a vegetable garden directly out the back of the lodging, from which we were able to pick delicious, fresh salad to accompany our meals. Evergreen itself is a quaint, characterful town with enough bars and restaurants to satisfy your stay if you aren't wanting to travel further afield in the evenings. Particular highlights for us were The Den, which serves scrumptious pizzas and hosts live music on certain nights of the week; Da Kind Soups, open 11-7 all week for your hearty soup-and-sandwich cravings (both of these restaurants will cater for vegan and gluten-free customers); Cactus Jack's, a relaxed, friendly bar where many locals hang out, play pool and partake in some karaoke; they serve the best fried mushrooms and margaritas around! Other nearby activities we enjoyed include: reaching the Summit Lake of Mount Evans - a must-do activity, but beware the altitude and twisty ascent! White water rafting out in Canyon City; visiting Elitch Gardens amusement/water park in downtown Denver; spending the afternoon at the hot springs resort in Idaho Springs; taking in some live music at a magical Red Rocks concert. These are on top of all the wonderful hiking trails available! Thank you to Kitty for hosting us. Hopefully we will return to Evergreen one day!

We booked Kitty's place in Evergreen to attend a concert at Red Rocks in nearby Morrison. Morrison was a quick and easy drive from her place but we ended up spending quite a bit of time in downtown Evergreen. Our stay was amazing; Kitty's property is gorgeous and provided a perfect mix of seclusion without being too far off the beaten path. Kitty was extremely friendly and offered great suggestions for restaurants and scenic drives in the area. We had a fantastic meal at The Bistro immediately down the hill from her home. Her place had all the amenities one would expect and then some. The steam bath is a must try! I have suffered with insomnia for the past few years but I was able to sleep through the night all during my stay! We spent a day in Golden on the way back to the airport for our late day flight home and that was enjoyable as well. We wholeheartedly recommend a stay here and we'll definitely be back!

Simply amazing, hostess and property!!

We could not have felt more welcome from the moment we arrived. Flying in during the first snow of the year, we landed to find a message from Kitty advising best route to take to arrive safely which was greatly appreciated. Our studio was warm and cozy, the perfect size for the two of us and had everything we needed. Had we needed anything all we would have had to do is ask. Kitty had available any outdoor items we might need available for use along with fantastic ideas for points of interest around the area. One of the best of those is the personal oasis she has created right on her property, The Himmelhaus Forest! Simply breathtaking views! After a day of exploring you must take advantage of the incredible steam shower to relax those tired muscles and rehydrate.....awwww. Then enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains and stars from the deck. Kitty we cannot thank you enough for your wonderful, heartwarming hospitality. We so enjoyed our stay, our conversations and the wonderful snow day cookies. All the best to you and can't wait to visit again! Wendy & Andy

Originally from Germany, we fell in love with Evergreen and felt at home, as soon as we visited this quaint and energetic cowboy town with its many Swiss inspired buildings, it's beautiful mountain views and crystal clear lake in the center of town. As avid travelers we have enjoyed meeting people all over the world, staying in hostels and B&B's. Eager to share this beautiful gem of a mountain home, as well as a love of outdoor sports, we are excited to share our toys, kayaks, snowshoes and welcome guests to experience the joy of mountain living. Having lived in ,and extensively remodeled this home for the past 18yrs., we built the studio addition to provide family and guests with totally private quarters Recently retired and indulging in gardening, water skiing, kayaking, bike riding, we would be happy to provide you with information about available outdoor activities and all that this beautiful area has to offer.

"Play in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air" is our motto

Why they chose this property

This quiet and private retreat provides the tranquility that restores the soul with the sounds of water features, and the songs of birds. Frequent visitors who enjoy our hospitality, are friendly foxes, who built their den at the edge of the paved driveway. Elk and deer, also call this property home, and thoroughly enjoy munching on the newly planted flowers, bushes and trees.
An easy Denver commute via I-70 or Hyw. 285, makes this an ideal location for exploring what Denver has to offer an is only a 30 min. drive away. Red Rocks for Concerts or museums and cultural activities. Gambling Casinos in Blackhawk are only about a 40 min. drive up the mountain.
Easy access, even in winter, as the house is located on a publicly maintained road and only about 1/2 mile from the main highway, and the best restaurant in town.

What makes this property unique

On warm days, in the morning take your latte' (Coffee grinder/cappuccino maker in kitchenette)or coffee out on the deck or into the private forest across the street and watch the sunrise over the mountains. In summer and fall, my vegetable garden, right outside the studio's back deck, is abundant with spinach, lettuce, kale, radishes, beans, squash, beets and carrots. Help yourself and make a healthy salad for lunch, then take the kayaks out to Evergreen Lake for a little exercise . and refreshing paddle, or take a stroll and feed the ducks. The lake is stocked with trout, so bring your fishing pole, or golf on the public golf course which borders the lake. There are 3 kayaksand 4 bikes available for your use. Only 30 minutes from Red Rocks ampitheater. Only 1/2 mile down the road is Evergreen's best restaurant "Marshdale Bistro" also a small grocery store inside the gas station for emergency supplies. 2 Large Grocery chains within 10 minute drive. In the winter, the local sledding hill is just a mile from the house, (plenty of sleds and inner-tubes available for your use) or take the snow shoes for a hike. If you like to ski, pick up the ski bus in El Rancho to Copper Mountain or Vail, or avoid the crowds and learn to ski or snowboards at Evergreen's local ski area. When you return, relax with a glass of wine and watch the sunset over the mountains, then take a relaxing steam bath before bed, and call it a perfect Colorado day.
