About this property

Waterfront Home with Dock!

Enjoy dinners, sunsets and star gazing from the private dock 200' out on Mobile Bay. Explore the bay with our 2 Kayaks, relax in the Adirondack chairs on the boathouse or fish from the pier after a visit to the Bait shop.
Pets Welcome!
The house has a deck facing the Bay if you want to stay close to the kitchen for snacks and drinks. County Road 1 offers quiet walks in the morning and the marsh wildlife waking up offers an incredible experience of sights and sounds.
Fairhope's quaint downtown is 11 miles North, convenient but far enough to keep the city lights from drowning out the magnificent night sky. The beaches of Gulf Shores are a 35-minute drive South, or head North for the city lights of Mobile at about the same distance.

Very clean, comfortable bed, friendly neighbors, and fishing and hanging on the pier. Close enough to drive to Gulf Shores or visit downtown Fairhope for dinner and shopping, all around great place, would definitely recommend!

So enjoyed our stay. Great location. So peaceful and quite and close to downtown Fairhope. Loved the water view in the mornings and sitting on the dock in the evenings. Had everything we could need. Would stay there again for sure.

Mobile Bay home

We stayed 3 nights. The place was clean. Id give it a 7. The bed in master was too soft and definitely needed new pillows and towels for the bathroom. The 4 days we were there we enjoyed immensely. it was great being on the bay. Douglas was very helpful.

Worth it.

Booked last minute fleeing the hurricane. We will be back. Owner was super nice and knew we had nowhere to go and let us check in early. My babies both caught their first fish off the dock and the sunsets rival the best Florida sunsets.

Class A Experience!

We were very impressed with the property and the whole process went smooth start to finish. I really appreciated all the thoughtful and personal touches and the owner's concern we had everything we needed and we really did and more. Since it was cool when we were there I loved the sun porch with windows you could open and comfy chairs. That was the pups favorite room too as watching the big birds out the windows was a treat for them. Everything was clean, beds comfy, so we were comfortable "living" there all week, tastefully decorated too. The pier was crazy cool and the best one I have experienced. We will definitely be back when it is warmer so we can use it more. Wonderful host! Ten Stars! (don't tell everybody)

Girls Nights On The Town

Kayak On The Bay was just what we needed to enjoy our stay in Fairhope. The house was completely furnished for every need we might have had. It was also right between our points of interest. Could not have been any more pleased.

Spring at Kayak the Bay

Overall we had a very nice and relaxing weekend. It was obvious that significant amounts have been spent on repairs and upgrades to the exterior of the property, stairs, decks, boathouse and pier. Unfortunately the interior has been somewhat neglected. Areas of heavy paint chipping, rotten areas around windows, missing sun screen on the north west side bay facing window and broken window sill all need repair. Additionally we were not advised that the A/C was locked at 72 degrees and our guest in the back bedroom found it quite hot and difficult to sleep.

Kayak at the Bay

We had a wonderful time at Kayak at the Bay! We spent a lot of time out on the dock fishing and spending time together as a family. We caught several trout and catfish with the help of our friends down at the Fishermen’s Discount. Thanks to the fully stocked kitchen we were able to cook most of our dinners, but we did enjoy eating at Kraver’s Seafood in Daphne and Another Broken Egg Cafe in Fairhope. Make sure to stop by Fairhope Soap Company while you’re visiting and pick up some local soaps and bath-bombs for the kiddos! We are very thankful for Mr. Douglas’s hospitality while we were down visiting Fairhope. He was always very prompt on answering questions and providing recommendations. All in all we had a wonderful end of the summer vacation at Kayak at the Bay!

Peaceful bayside retreat

Sitting on the dock of the bay has never been better! Cute, updated home, well equipped kitchen, granite finishes, huge master bath, nice lawn, everything you need and more! Incredible boat house and deck with awesome Adirondack chairs. Million dollar view! Didn’t miss cable tv, enjoyed the breeze and hammock on the pier deck. Fantastic tour of restaurants from Flavortown Diners, drive ins and dives nearby brought us to Fairhope, Al. Now Kayaking the Bay is a definite place to book more trips to get away from it all. Loved it! Thanks Douglas

Perfect Location

This house is in an amazing location close to Fairhope, but far enough out to be free of light pollution and noise. On the non-water side of the house there is a woods. In the morning it was amazing to sit looking out over the bay and hear owls "talk" to each other. Despite being surrounded by many other houses the area has a rural feel. It was the best! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is some maintenance that needs to be done - mainly painting and replacing a bi-fold closet door that is missing. Douglas is an attentive and responsive host and I would guess these issues are already on the to-do list.

Comfortable and Relaxing

The property was as described, albeit with some minor updates since the pictures were taken. Everything was clean and adequately maintained with one exception of a few dirty plates that were in the cupboard. These were obviously used and probably accidentally placed back in the cupboard instead of being washed first. The house pictures and description indicated a drip coffee maker with a grinder so we packed bean coffee. Only to discover it had been swapped out for a Keurig K cup maker which also required descaling the first morning before it would allow coffee to be made. I assume this was a time based requirement and no big deal to perform once we googled the descaling process. It just wasn’t expected on the first morning. There was also no garden hose outside for rinsing things off such as fishing equipment, water toys, etc.The dock is very nice and we spent a lot of time out there fishing, crabbing and watching the sunsets. The dock has an enclosed area which is nice in that it has a sink with running water and provides a place to put things overnight so you don’t have to carry stuff back and forth to the house. It also provides shade for the afternoon sun.All in all it is a nice property in a nice location and with only minor inconveniences and we would definitely stay here again.

Our 2nd stay and the 1st stay under new ownership. We'll be back the 3rd time. Boathouse is awesome!

If you want to get away. I mean really get away and unplug this is your place on East Bay. A fisherman's paradise is an understatement. 40 inch Reds, massive Sheepshead, Blackfin Shark, Croaker and much more all from the dock. Bring your cast net and catch live baitfish and catch enough shrimp for dinner too! We've always had great success with the Blue Crab here as well when the water warms up. And Flounder are out at night too! This is a great place for the kids to float and splash around in the bay. People and Bay wildlife all peacefully coexist here. The nightly live art show is spectacular as God shows off with His sunset each evening. And i hope you experience a big Thunderstorm one evening. Turn off all the lights and the electronics and watch the most remarkable light show you've ever seen on the bay - magical. An early morning expedition to Panini Pete's is a must for sure... think Cafe De Monte in New Orleans! Take the kids to Lulu's for a great outing of food and live music. What is there not to like about Baldwin County and especialy the Kayak Cottage! You will love this place. The owners are spectacular and responsive. Enjoy!

About the host

Hosted by Douglas

Host profile image

I was born and raised at sea level on the Delaware Bay, my dad steamed blue crabs we caught in the Little River outside Little Creek. Found my way to Colorado with my career and experienced adventures up to 14,000 feet above sea level. I have now made my way back to an adventure that includes blue crabs and salt water without the snow!

Why they chose this property

With the metro area of Mobile, AL and the city attractions it provides 30 miles away to the North and the Gulf Coast beaches 28 miles to the South we are located on the Bay with herons, gulls cormorants, pelicans, mocking birds and a dark night sky that reveals glories every night. The sunsets off the dock rival any I've seen in my travels and there is the lapping of the bay on the bulkhead at night to rock you into slumber.
