The house was very clean. It has a well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. Nice open floor plan with old time pine paneling. It is an older house but there were no signs of mold or mildew and it smelled good. Some signs of age and settling, especially in the master bath area. Otherwise we loved it and plan to come back.
Location was great! Unfortunately, the home has settled so much that the master bathroom door doesn’t close and there’s black mold spread out throughout the house. The house was clean to the best of the house cleaner’s ability but there’s mold everywhere.
The location was beautiful, being able to watch the sunrises and sunsets by simply stepping onto the back deck was amazing. Listening to the sounds of the waves and beach was also calming and peaceful. The house was very dusty, and there was a lot of water damage that needed repaired/upkept. This dust and mildew impacted my and my children's allergies significantly during our stay, which was disappointing and uncomfortable.
We very much enjoyed our stay! The only item that was a very small issue was that one of the toilet handles broke during our stay and it took longer than I would have like to get fixed. (reported Wednesday evening to fix on Friday afternoon.) All in all a minor item and the gentleman that fixed it was very nice.
Location was great. Kitchen was well equipped. The rest of the house needs repairs. We enjoyed our stay overall but the house needs some TLC. One corner of porch is starting to fall in. The floors on the inside are soft. There is no sneaking around in the house as every floor squeaks and moves. Living space is decent size and the Ocean views are great.
Loved the 60s vibe of this cottage -- old school charm, single story, lots of knotty pine. Beds were comfortable and rooms were smaller but functional and not crowded. Ocean access and views were excellent, and the beach wasn't congested until July 4th and following (to be expected). We could see multiple impressive fireworks displays without going anywhere! The covered porch with rockers made enjoying the beach and sea birds possible even without being ON the beach. Proximity to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. is ideal, yet there's no commercial feel when you're at the cottage. Wave action in this location is ideal for beginning swimmers. Kitchen was extremely well-stocked albeit a bit disorganized. Fridge has NO ICEMAKER. Wish the house had been a bit cleaner -- cabinets, doorknobs, and some furnishings felt oily to the touch; comforters needed washing or replacing (we didn't use them); bathroom grout had fuzzy growth in showers and on floors (we sprayed with Lysol). The router was a bit slow -- adequate for vacation needs, but not for someone who has a bit of work to do while away. It was our first time at Oak Island, and we had a great week overall! I'd like to go back.
This is a great property. The house is nice and clean. The kitchen is chef equipped. Straight walkout to the beach. We had a great time and will rent again.
Very large and comfortable bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen for multiple people. Also had a well equipped kitchen. A great stay for a family to relax and enjoy the beautiful coastal area.
