CAUTION! For those who have ambulation issues, there’s an entire flight of stairs to access the apartment.
This is a detached apartment to our 1907 Craftsman home. Located just a short (10-15 mins) walk to Old Town Eureka. We are also about a 20 minute walk to Henderson Center. We are a few blocks away from Brick and Fire, a lovely restaurant. We also have our own walking distance dive bar (Ernie's)! There is a giant shared yard, but it is still very private. There is a separate entrance to the apartment. The apartment has wraparound windows and you are able to overlord the corner and people watch. I recommend you park on C Street because 14th is quite busy.
The space Living room has a smart TV, loveseat, and wall heater. An air conditioner is not necessary for this corner of the world. We have what I call natural AC.
There is a full kitchen with microwave, pots & pans, kitchenware, oil, spices, Brita, coffee, tea, coffee maker, and hot water kettle.
Bedroom has all essentials and mattress is medium firm. So if you prefer a soft mattress, this may not be the place for you. Iron and ironing board.
Bathroom has all amenities - shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hair dryer. There is a tub in the bathroom.
Other things to note Our dogs are barky when you come through the gate. We usually keep them in the house when new people come around. Ozzie, he’s not aggressive but will herd you. Meaning he will nudge your heel with his snout as he is a herding dog. Please let me know if you are uncomfortable with that. We try to keep him inside because his persistent barking is the most annoying part. He hates greetings. But if you are well-versed with guardy, herding dogs - he is a typical case. Our red heeler, Ruby, is too friendly and will jump on you because she is a poorly behaved dog with poorly behaved owners. She might come to your door for breakfast as she is used to having guest let her roam through the apartment. Don't feel obligated to let her in. We're good about calling her back if she's gone for too long from the house.
We do the majority of our booking through AirBnB. https://www.airbnb.com/h/chezshony

About the host
Hosted by Shin Luong
My husband and I occupy the front main house. I'm a transplant from Los Angeles (actual City of LA) and have been in Humboldt since 2007. I'm a self-employed psychotherapist.
My husband, Tony, is also a transplant from outside of Sacramento via China. He's been in Humboldt since maybe 2009 or 2010. He too is self-employed but in the building industry. You will see him zooming around the property at times.
We are often in our backyard gardening or in our front yard maintaining it on the weekends. Feel free to wave at us with big gestures because we always have our earbuds or headphones on.
Why they chose this property
We are through and through Eurekans at this point. We love our neighborhood and love old homes. We appreciate our little space in the middle of town even though we are more used to rural life in SoHum and east county where we still own property.
Oddly, I (Shin) first moved to this neighborhood when I moved to Humboldt. So full circle, I bought a home in the same neighborhood. I guess I couldn't help it.
What makes this property unique
You will get to enjoy our quaint neighborhood with a lot of well maintained Victorians and Craftsmans. Some will say this neighborhood is a bit shady, but I don't think so. I have watched this neighborhood get cleaned up and we are all quite neighborly. Tony is also the unofficial neighborhood president even though I'm the only person that knows it.
