Well stocked with towels and kitchen things like herbs and spices! House was very cute and wifi was great.Just FYI, nothing to do with the house but the ticks are terrible this year! (Daily we found them crawling on us) Bring spray if you’re planning to spend time on trails or fishing! Would absolutely recommend this property!

This property is absolutely unique and amazing. We have not found anything even close. Would highly recommend this to anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to feel like they are away from it all. The property is clean, well maintained, and a joy to be at. We have enjoyed staying here on five separate occasions. Looking forward to next year as we make new memories every time. Owners have done an excellent job keeping up on maintaining and upgrading the property every year.

We enjoyed the cabin and the trails and waterfalls to explore. There were multiple waterfalls to hike to from the cabin! We did not have luck fishing. We struggled to find good access to the river at the places that looked like good spots. The house was very clean and comfortable. The fire pit was great and the hammock was a huge hit with a few naps taken there. The kitchen table was big enough to all of us and the table and chairs on the screened deck were great. Most of the cookware was stainless steal, which we hadn’t used much and was a learning curve. If you plan to cook, bring containers for leftovers. We had a fabulous time! There was plenty of space for 2 families inside and outside. We would definitely come back. Owner communication was quick as well.

Stunning Location

My husband and I had the most relaxing time at the cabin. The location is just amazing, peaceful, the river on your doorstep, where my husband enjoyed many hours of fly fishing, walks to waterfalls and surrounded by wildlife. The cabin is so comfortable, and has everything you need for a great stay. We will be returning.

Mountain paradise

This was our second time staying at this property and we noticed many improvements that make the property even better than we remembered. If you're looking to disconnect from the fast pace daily grind with family or friends this place offers what you need. This property will become a staple for us to return and sets the bar high for all mountain vacation destinations.

Mountain living at its best!

If you are looking for a place to unwind, relax and leave your life behind this is it! Listening to the water flow over the rocks and along the river is as peaceful as it gets. We had fun swimming in the water and hiking to White Owl Falls. Everything we needed was available in the home and the beds were very comfortable! Love this place.

About the host

Host profile image
We bought Sweetwater because we wanted a place where our family could unplug, breathe fresh mountain air, and spend time together in nature. Over the years it has become one of our favorite places in the world, and we’re grateful to share it with other families who are looking for the same sense of peace and adventure. We hope you’ll make memories here that last long after your trip ends.

Why they chose this property

What drew us here wasn’t a neighborhood—it was the land itself. Sweetwater is surrounded by Nantahala National Forest, bordered by the Thompson River, and filled with the kind of natural beauty that’s becoming harder to find. There are no streetlights, very little ambient noise, and the stars at night are extraordinary. Whether you’re hiking to waterfalls, fishing the river, or simply sitting on the porch listening to the water, we hope you’ll experience the same peace that made us fall in love with this place.

What makes this property unique

Sweetwater is more than a cabin—it’s an experience that’s becoming increasingly difficult to find. You’ll be staying on nine private acres surrounded by Nantahala National Forest, with the Thompson River flowing through the property and no nearby development, traffic, or artificial light.

From the front door, you can hike to waterfalls, explore mountain streams, fish for trout, or simply spend the day listening to the river from the screened porch. At night, the only sounds are the water, the wind in the trees, and the wildlife around you.

We believe what makes Sweetwater truly special isn’t just the cabin—it’s the opportunity to unplug, breathe fresh mountain air, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a level of peace and privacy that’s becoming harder to find.
