About this property

Spacious! Recent Remodel! 6 Min. to Raystown Lake! Linens&Towels provided!

Spacious Recently Renovated Home with large yard and mountain stream, bordering 6000+acres of forest with abundant wildlife, 6 min. FROM RAYSTOWN LAKE!

Wild and wonderful - the world stops here! Relax on the back deck, as you listen to the fresh mountain stream tumbling over smooth stones making its way across the far edge of the open backyard. Enjoy the rejuvenating sights and sounds of nature from the lower patio swing. On a warm summer day, meditate in the secluded hammock by the stream, flanked by rhododendrons and mossy boulders. In cool weather, feel the warmth of the crackling fire you build in the primitive stone campfire ring in the woods just across the creek.

Beyond our property lies a huge expanse of forest including some private land as well as more than 6,000 acres of State Game Lands. We haven’t explored that area much, but we know that it contains plentiful wildlife.

From our deck we have watched deer grazing on our willow tree, an occasional black bear lumbering across our backyard, wild turkeys, foxes, raccoons, a bald eagle soaring overhead, and many other species of birds. In the winter we enjoy seeing animal tracks in the snow.

There is a hunting cabin to the north side of the house about 200 feet away, and a few houses at the foot of the mountain across the road. The neighboring residents are quiet people who also enjoy the wildlife.

We have been renovating this house as a place to vacation together with all of our children and grandchildren, and we are happy to be ready to share it with you. It has 5 bedrooms with bed space for 19, and a convertible room which can serve either as a pool table room or a 6th bedroom, which would increase bed space for up to 21 people. Please let us know which you prefer. There are 4 full baths, one of which has a whirlpool tub. You may notice signs that indicate that this house is still a work in progress, but we're confident you'll find it to be quite comfortable and enjoy your stay.

The house has an open floor plan with a spacious living room, dining area, and kitchen.

The living room has a beautiful remote control gas fireplace, 3 sofas, 3 chairs, a game cupboard, books, a piano, a TV, and DVD player. We do not subscribe to any tv service, but it has a ROKU with some free channels, or you can connect it to your own laptop to access the internet. The house has free wifi.

The extendable dining room table seats 6 to 12, and the kitchen island 4 adults or 6 children.

The kitchen has a large refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. It has an electric griddle, toaster, blender, small handheld mixer, and electric can opener. There is a Keurig with some complimentary K-cups and some individual creamers of various flavors. There is also a coffee maker and ground coffee.
You’ll find a set of various size pots and pans, crockpots, glass baking pans, casserole dishes, cookie sheets, soup bowls, plenty of dinner plates, mugs, glasses, plastic cups, flatware, and basic kitchen utensils.
Dish detergent and dishwasher soap are supplied, as are dishcloths and dish towels.
Disposable kitchen paper products are not provided.
Food is not supplied, although there are some limited cooking essentials such as a few spices, salt, pepper, flour, sugar, oil, baking soda/powder, etc. that you are welcome to use in small amounts.

There is a gas grill for your use out on the covered deck/porch. The propane is provided.

We now have possible bed space for 21 people, with the optional 6th bedroom in the basement. This convertible room can alternatively be set up as an extra common area with a pool table, in which case there would be only 5 bedrooms and bed space for 19 people.
Each of the 6 bedrooms has one queen-size bed. Three of them have additional single beds. One of these has a set of bunk beds. Another has one set of bunk beds and one single bed with sides. The third has four single beds. We also supply a pack ‘n play upon request.
You'll find beds made with fresh linens, and extra blankets are also provided!
Each bed space has one pillow but there are also a few spares. The pillows vary from memory foam to down alternative, and from fluffy to flat to allow guests to choose their preference. Mattresses are supportive but vary in level of firmness/softness.

Each bathroom has a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap, as well as an initial couple of rolls of toilet tissue.
One large bath towel and one washcloth is provided per guest.
Beach towels are not provided.

There is a washer and a dryer in the basement, which you are free to use. There is also some laundry detergent for your use if needed.

Half of the basement consists of the laundry area, and a pool table room or 6th bedroom with an adjoining 4th bathroom.
The other half is our recreation room. It has a game table which can transform from foosball to air hockey and more. It has foursquare, pingpong, and a toy box for young children. There is an old slate blackboard on which to draw or keep score. It also has a projector for multimedia viewing on an 8ft. x 12ft. screen. You’ll need your own laptop to watch movies with this. Our gaming chairs with adjustable recline can transform this "dungeon" into a theater.

Volleyball/ badminton, whiffle ball, ladder golf, and corn hole are available as seasonally appropriate for you to set up in the backyard. There are sleds in the winter.

If you need to replenish any of your supplies, Saxton Market is 5 minutes away. Be aware that it closes at 7pm. Martin’s Market is a 24hr convenience store next to the supermarket.

Repeat Renters
This was our second stay at this location and everything was as great as the first time. Plenty of room, a large covered deck that was even more perfect for the little bit of rain we had - we could still get outside and enjoy the view out back and cook out on the grill. Responses to communication were very quick. We would stay a third time.

Raystown Lake vacation
We were impressed with the cabin and enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean and adequately accommodated our group. Most of our time was spent on the water and our time at the cabin was relaxing. Campfires in the evening and spending time outside in the backyard was perfect for our group of multi-family with children.

Hello. We live in Lancaster County, PA and raised our family there. As a young family, Raystown Lake was always one of our favorite vacation spots. Now our five adult children and their spouses, along with our 14 grandchildren live in various other places. We have been renovating this old house as a place to vacation together with all of our children and grandchildren, and we are happy to be ready to share it with you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We chose this property first for its location. We love the mountains and the water, and this is about as close as you can get to both. We like that it is at the quieter, wilder, less developed end of the lake, but still near a boat launch with a lovely beach, and several state parks. We like that it adjoins 6000+ acres of woods with lots of wildlife, and yet a few stores and places to eat are not far away.
The house itself needed renovation which appealed to us since we could open up the space, update it, and make it a beautiful place for multiple families to gather where everything is clean and new, but still has that coming home feel to it. We like that, with its 4 levels, it is spacious enough to be quite comfortable for groups of 21, yet is also cozy enough, and beautiful enough to be a romantic getaway for just one couple using only the first floor.
Last but not least, we love the spacious yard with its stately evergreen, weeping willow, sparkling brook, and adjacent woods.

What makes this property unique

We are proud to be able to provide a place for you to forget your responsibilties and get away! That is why we provide all of your basic needs. Freshly made crisp clean beds will be waiting for you along with large thirsty bath towels and washcloths, so that you don't have to slave away doing laundry before and after your vacation. You'll find basic soaps (shampoo, body wash, and handsoap), some toilet paper, hand towels, a few extra toothbrushes and toothpaste (in case anyone forgets theirs), dish soap, dishtowels, laundry soap, etc. Everything you'll need, except your food, clothing, and personal items, is there for you. You can just pick up and go!

We are also pleased to offer a multimedia projector with an 8'x12' screen (wall) creating a "theatre" with seating for 17 including two futons, which each seat 4, and nine gaming chairs on the floor. Enjoy watching a movie or game on the big screen with your friends and family, or give a presentation for your business or church group.
