Welcome to "The Urban Retreat"! We invite you to indulge in the comfort and style of our Second-floor unit, offering a unique and inviting space that is sure to exceed your expectations.
Our one-bedroom unit is beautifully designed with modern decor and features a plush Queen-Size bed, a closet, and a dresser, ensuring you have everything you need for a comfortable and restful stay. The living room is perfect for lounging and features a cozy sofa, a 44” Smart TV with HULU available.
The fully equipped kitchen boasts modern appliances, and a dining table, making it easy to prepare and enjoy your favorite meals. The bathroom features a spacious shower with all toiletries included.
This unit can comfortably accommodate up to four guests, with the sofa converting into a comfortable bed. The unit is located just a few steps away from local restaurants, shops, and attractions, making it a perfect home base for exploring the city.
The area is quiet except for the occasional siren associated with an urban area and the bustle of cars as we are near a major street. If you are a light sleeper, please let us know.
The A/C unit is a window unit which means we prep and install them once the weather is consistently warm (70 or above) for a week or more before re-installing them for the summer months. We may provide portable fans if we have an unseasonably warm day or 2 in the early spring months. Please reach out to us if you have any questions regarding the A/C.
The heat is on all winter and into early spring. This system does not provide for individual unit control of the heat. We have provided portable heaters in the closet for added comfort. Please reach out with any questions.
Above all else we want to create the best stay for our guests!

Extremely clean, comfortable, will be back!

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay. We were there for 5 nights for a work trip, and this apartment was really comfortable and extremely clean. We felt very at home there and the atmosphere really relaxed us. We've stayed at some very uncomfortable places, and were VERY relived to find this one. We'll definitely be back on our next trip.

Convenient and Clean Short visit to Hartford

My brief stay at this cozy apartment met my need for a clean and comfortable place to rest while in town visiting family. While there was a minor issue with check-in, the management was friendly and quick to respond. Ease and convenience of location makes this a satisfying choice for a return stay.

Not the same unit as the pictures

I stayed at this property for a week course at Hartford Hospital. I booked this location becuase it was walkable to the hospital, but I did not end up walking due to safety concerns. The pictures in the listing are not the same as the property I stayed in. The unit I stayed in was on the first floor, which was very loud at night. One night I was awoken by two men having a conversation feet away from the window. I received no information about the check-in process from VRBO or the owner. I ended up calling VRBO customer service to learn how to check-in to the unit. The owner did make an effort to make me feel comfortable and answered questions via text. Overall, I wouldn't stay in this unit for long periods of time or by myself again.

Buckingham Apartments are nestled in the heart of Downtown Hartford in the South Downtown district. You will find that we are 2 blocks south of Bushnell Park & approximately 200 yards from the Bushnell Auditorium on Capitol Avenue.
Our neighborhood is full of historic charm, Victorian era homes and buildings populate this area for blocks. This property was designed and built by George Zumner in 1927-1928, and I along with a small staff have been the caretaker of modernizing this building for the last 3 decades. The building is also occupied by other tenants of mine who are single dwellers and always very quiet. The building is safe, very clean and all tenants are respectful and polite. Each room has it's own special charm and we take great pride in our apartments. Each room is designed with our guests in mind and we go the extra mile to ensure that guests are comfortable and have everything they could ever need at their fingertips or a block or two away. Each room has it's own personality and special charm which makes it unique. You will definitely find quirky photos, historic event flyers and even unique pieces of furniture inside every room of the apartment!

Each room is designed with our guests in mind. You will find unique and eclectic pieces of furniture and decor in each room. We wanted to find a way to share Hartford's rich history in a way that will not bore our guests or take away from the thoughtful touches we put in each room of the apartment. We are conveniently situated in the heart of Hartford's South Downtown district which is technically a stone's throw from the wider downtown Metro area. Virtually everything is at your fingertips, restaurants, pubs, hole-in- the-wall bars, rail stations, parks, library and a gym are all within a 5-10 minute walk of Buckingham Apartments. You will find that the location is discrete, quiet and very private.
