About this property
Old detached stone cottage in Shakespeare country
A variety of spaces make this an excellent venue for groups as does its central position within England. A footpath leading to the delightful village of Bidford on Avon passes in front of the cottage (1 mile) with its shops, pubs and a supermarket. If one carries on over the bridge, a further mile, will bring you to a great little village pub the Cottage of Content at Barton. Cheerful and welcoming! In the other direction a path rises up above the village and can be followed to the delightful village of Cleeve Prior. There you will find a beautiful 15th century church and equally old pub, The Kings Arms. With its beams, log fires, real ale and great food it is everyone's idea of an English Country Pub. There is a quiet route through the lanes to the Stratford Greenway which give cycle access to Stratford on Avon. The River Avon itself is only a few hundred metres walk and children delight in helping the boats navigate the lock at Marlcliff. Some guests even do a spot of fishing.

Quirky cottage in lovely location. Parking is a bit tight and first come first served. Comfortable beds. Plenty of room. Would be great in the summer, with nice garden and day room. Enjoyed using the log fire. Has everything you need, but a walk in shower would be advantageous.

Thanks Paul. A fair review. You had the very worst of weather during your stay. Come again in the summer sunshine.

Lovely cosy cottage with log fire. Super clear communication from the owner Geoff. Very comfortable beds. Loads of crockery, cutlery and numerous pans. Something for everything you may need, like a home from home. Would definitely recommend for family gatherings.

The cottage was a great base for local walks along the river Avon and nearby hamlets. Beautiful gardens and excellent facilities in the cottage to make us feel at home. The lovely fire in the evenings was an added bonus.

A beautiful picture postcard cottage. Comfortable bedrooms, big dining area for family meals and a cosy front room with an open fire. 20 minute walk to 2 local pubs and 25 minute walk to nearest town. Geoff the owner was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We will 100% visit again
Two adults and 4 children stayed in the cottage for 3 nights. The hamlet is quiet and pretty and the cottage had everything we needed for our stay. It is very homely and cost. We had fun lighting the fire and exploring the local area. Geoff is an excellent hodt.

Charming and Quant
What a lovely cottage in the heart of Shakespeare country. We had a great stay and enjoyed meeting Geoff when he stopped by to tend the garden. This is offor the beaten path but altogether charming and quaint. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

It was great to meet your delightful family and to learn the reason for your visit to England. You endured awful windy wet weather but that didn't dampen your enthusiasm for your holiday.
Living in a 300 year old building might sound challenging but Geoff has upgraded well while still maintaining the character of the building

lovely cottage
We spent a good week here at this cottage tucked into a corner. As a family group of six it offered cosy rooms with 'me' space and privacy. A good size downstairs double bedroom with bathroom next door. Perfect for my elderly parents. Geoff makes himself easily available if needed and the cottage is well equipped. We encountered no problems. Centrally located for plenty to do in surrounding area.

About the host
Hosted by geoff gent
Retired now after 39 years at the chalk face (teaching), The Hamlet was my family home for 25 years. I worked hard to create an attractive, fertile organic garden which I was loathe to give up when I relocated to a smaller property in Evesham. I just moved out and left everything as it was! Consequently the house is very 'homely' and the garden green and productive! I've tried to make the home comfortable but not too 'precious' so that families with children and/or dogs would not feel too up tight during their stay. In retirement I've continued doing the garden and have been able to travel extensively usually on my bike! I will probably pop in to say hello and you may see me hoeing my veg garden but the large lawned gardens surrounding the house are exclusively for the use of guests.
Why they chose this property
I grew up in Birmingham and one of our special childhood treats was to catch the 148 bus from Moseley to Bidford on Avon and walk across the fields through Marlcliff and onto the teashop (now closed!) at Cleeve Prior. When the Hamlet came on the market in 1981 it had just been delightfully renovated, had large gardens and there were footpaths radiating from the cottage in many directions. Although in an essentially rural area it is only a short walk along the river or across the fields to Bidford on Avon which has plenty of 'facilities' There are some great bike rides, country and riverside walks from the cottage and all the charms of the Cotswold villages and countryside, and Stratford on Avon, within 10 miles.
What makes this property unique
Some visitors just stay around the property. They read, cook, eat, walk, cycle, fish in the river, use the local pubs and shops and really chill out. Some have the above sorts of days but go into Stratford, Cheltenham, or Broadway to shop or 'do' the usual tourist things. There are a large number of National Trust Properties close by so members often get their money's worth and visit these. Guests with children usually visit Warwick Castle and Cadburys' World in Birmingham. Visitors from abroad often have frenetic days travelling to London, Bath, Oxford, Stone Henge etc. There is a direct train service to Oxford and London (Paddington) from Honeybourne only 4 miles away (free parking at station).
