We had a lovely 3 night stay. The cottage was really clean, had every thing we needed and a brand new gorgeous bathroom. The bed was really comfy and lovely linen, which is important to me! The location was perfect. Walking distance to the little harbour, the shops and pubs/restaurants. The cottage is small but exactly as advertised and for 2 people, it’s perfect.

Old cottage, very comfortable and well equiped

the cottage is well situated on the level in a town that has a steep main street. Parking is well provided for although very restricted close to the property. It was ideal for the two of us with the proviso that we found the stairs very steep for 75year olds

Ideally Situated

The cottage is very well situated for easy access to Kingsbridge on foot and on the flat too. It's very well appointed, we didn't really want for anything. It's warm and cosy, bed was incredibly comfortable, kitchen has everything you'd reasonably need. Car parking in an allocated slot 3 minutes walk from the cottage and no problems there. Staircase is a little steep with 3 or 4 steps at the bottom so that is something to consider if you're less mobile. But otherwise - we really enjoyed our stay. Would we stay again? Definitely, yes!

Small but perfectly formed. The best part was the central location, post office, supermarket and pharmacy a stone's throw away. Great pubs and restaurants and great bus and ferry services straight to the beaches. Will book again for certain.

We had a lovely weekend stay as a couple and our dog in this cottage. The location is perfect and is a very short walk from the high street and shops. We went on a very hot weekend too but the cottage stayed really nice and cool which was perfect for our dog! The host was very good at communicating with us. We’d definitely return in future and would highly recommend for couples and their dogs.

Gardeners Cottage was a home from home stay for us and our dog. Although small, everything we needed was there including a comfortable bed, a lovely shower and a good supply of kitchenware and toiletries (which was unexpected). The central location was quiet but within a short walk to the town and quayside. The allocated parking was close by and right next to Smoozle & Bone (great for dog lovers!) Mike (owner) was very helpful with upfront information.

The cottage had everything we needed. Situated in an ideal position near the quay, with shops, pubs and restaurants in easy walking distance. A great base from which to explore this beautiful part of the country. The owner was very helpful. Gardener's Cottage was perfect for the two of us and we would definitely return.

Ideally situated very near to town centre and all amenities. The property was clean, quaint and comfortable. Ideal for a couple visiting Kingsbridge. The allocated parking space was really convenient and only a short walk from the cottage. Despite the town centre location, it was quiet and peaceful. We would definitely stay here again.

Dirty and unfriendly neighbours

Very disappointed with this property. On arrival I had to spend the first hour cleaning the kitchen, bathroom and hoovered the stairs. It had quite clearly not been cleaned since the previous occupants…there was caked on poo in the toilet bowl. The neighbours clearly have an issue with the fact that this property is being rented out. We had been out all day on the Saturday and returned at 1700 hours,,,at 1730 hours our small dog barked once…& within seconds the next door neighbour was banging on the front door shouting at us and telling us that she had repeatedly reported it to the authorities that dogs were barking in this holiday rental?! I messaged the owner of this property about this however he completely ignored me!! Totally ruined our holiday to be honest…complete waste of money!!

Really handy for all the amenities of Kingsbridge. Nice little cottage, stairs perhaps a challenge for older folk like us. Car parking was good considering the snugness of the location.

Short stay in kingsbridge

Cottage was a very good base for exploring places in Dartmouth. Clean and tidy cottage. Cottage itself had everything we needed. However the cottage could've done with a bit of a make over. Pictures on walls. End of bath. Bedlinen . Bed was comfortable. There was a little hole in the window in the bathroom. Also when you got in the shower you overlooked a public footpath. Overall we enjoyed our stay

The cottage was exemplary in every way with regard to fittings. The location could not have better for the quay and local pubs and restaurants. The bus stop perfectly located o few minutes away for a while host of dstinations. We would highly recommend to all our friends.

Family get together

The property was small but perfectly formed! It was spotlessly clean with plenty of sanitizer and cleaning products. The position of the cottage was great, walking distance of all Kingsbridge facilities. Following days at the beach it was a pleasure to come back to our little, cosy bolt hole!

About the host

Hosted by Mike Miller

Host profile image
I moved to Kingsbridge, south Devon from Buckinghamshire, retiring early, twenty years ago.
I have always loved the countryside and its wildlife and am enjoying living in this beautiful part of England.

Why they chose this property

The row of cottages were built around 1840 and lived in by brewery and mill workers at the time.

In the 1960s and 70s the cottages were scheduled for demolition, but fortunately saved and now Grade II listed, as can be seen by the original wooden sash windows with the old wonkey glass.

As a consequence, any changes have been done in a sympathetic manner, but at the same time making it a warm, welcoming place to stay.

What makes this property unique

The cottage has level access to the centre of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge Quay), just a few minutes walk.

Secure designated off-road parking space 150 meters from cottage.

Close to several restaurants and pubs within minutes
walk.

Close to bus station, forget your car and travel to Dartmouth/Plymouth/Salcombe/Totnes or ferry to Salcombe.

Access to an area 'of outstanding natural beauty' with many unspoilt natural beaches.

2025: Bathroom upgrade
Walk in rain shower, hi spec fittings
