About this property
Cosy Family Cottage In Rolling Country Near Beach - Sleeps 5
Burnside is a charming detached holiday cottage, built in the 1850s and tucked away off a quiet country lane.
The cottage opens on to enclosed front and back gardens, where you can bbq local meats abd lobster; or enjoy a drink while watching dozens of varieties of bird and wildlife. In the mornings, deer are often found grazing in the garden, while Yellowhammers sing from the hedgerows as the sun sets and Meadow Pipits trill overhead all day.
The kitchen is very well equipped, since we visit too for family holidays and we are keen cooks. It has a full range of utensils, sharp knives(!) and an expresso machine, as well as cafetieres, plenty of wine glasses and mugs. There is a dishwasher, microwave, electric hob and oven, washer/dryer. There’s also a log burner with free wood to keep it cosy in winter. Plus free wi-fi.
In 2022, we had a new bathroom fitted with powerful shower over the bath. It is a spacious bathroom with plenty of storage.
There are three lovely bedrooms with garden views - a double, a single and a twin room -- with two zip and link beds that can convert into a kingsize double.
Galloway’s glorious coastline is on your doorstep with many sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore.
We’re a great base for for walking (Southern Upland Way, Galloway Forest Park), cycling (7 Stanes Kirroughtree), golf (St Medans) and fishing (river, loch or sea). Plus bird watching (35 species and counting seen in the garden by visitors).
It's just over a mile from the fishing village of Port William (shop, cafe (serves beer) and takeaway).
All bed linen and towels are provided. Unfortunately, we're unable to take pets.

About the host
Hosted by Charles Walker

Our family has owned Burnside Cottage for more than 45 years. We spent our holidays there as children, and for many years it was used only by family and friends. A few years ago, our parents passed on the baton to us. It was time to fix the roof and refurbish the inside of the cottage. We have been letting the cottage since the improvements were completed in 2009. We still take our own holidays there, and a third generation of the Walker family now hike with us along the quiet country lanes, play poo-sticks in the stream, and are learning the names of the wildlife that continue to trek and fly through the garden. Charlie and Robert Walker.
