About this property
Ultra-stylish villa, stunning views, fabulous 12m pool. Perfect for families.
As its name would suggest, Villa l’Horizon enjoys a panoramic view of les Iles d’Or, Cap Negre, Le Lavandou and Le Grand Bleu – the breathtaking bay at the heart of a very special stretch of unspoiled coast. The Villa itself is a modernist gem, completely refurbished with comfortable, stylish, easy living in mind. Built on one level, twelve doors flood the house with light and air from all directions and connect every room to the poolside terraces. Perfect holiday home for families.
A large open-plan living room with a modern suspended fireplace has a raised dining area and a stylish Balthup kitchen that in turn leads out to the main terrace.
The master bedroom, almost 8 metres in length, is ensuite, two further bedrooms share a wet room and a separate WC. There is a laundry/linen cupboard with washing machine.
The glorious landscaped gardens, that enjoy both sun and shade throughout the day, are a joy to experience. There is a 12-metre infinity pool flanked by terraces, a boule and skittles pitch, shady outdoor seating areas, a dining area and plenty of special places to sit and relax together or separately. The garden, designed by Iain, has different areas that blend seamlessly into a whole. There is a Japanese garden for moments of contemplation, a nod to Australia, a cactus garden, a hammock with a view to Cap Negre, exuberant ornamental grasses and mediterranean palm trees, artfully placed boulders and riots of planting. Floodlit by night. You could while away your whole holiday here, but on the other hand, there is plenty to enjoy in the surrounding area. Our local knowledge will ensure you enjoy the best of restaurants, boating, beaches, wineries and walks.
• Sleeps maximum 6 in three double bedrooms
• Large outdoor plancha grill
• A 7-minute walk takes you to the centre of the charming village of Rayol, where you will find an excellent butcher/traiteur, a brilliant baker, a Petit Casino that stocks just about everything, a Friday weekly market, visiting fishmonger (3 times a week), the legendary Maurin des Maures with its lively bar and popular restaurant, a stylish swimwear shop, a couple of inventive craft shops and a newsagent stocking international papers. Not forgetting a doctor, a pharmacy a physiotherapist, five estate agents and a lawyer in case you decide to stay here forever.
A 10-minute walk takes you to the delightful Rayol beaches, 8 minutes in the car gets you to Canadel, both beaches with parking. In season there is a shuttle bus serving all the beaches that stops right outside our house. There is a kids playground at the back of Rayol beach plus workout facilities for circuit training.
• Safe cycling and walking along the old coastal railway track
• Sailing school and boat hire very close by
• St. Tropez is 30 minutes drive; St Clair beach (voted best beach in France) and restaurants are a 12-minute drive, both are on a bus route that passes the door.
• Internet, wifi, hi-fi, babyfoot and satellite TV/Apple tv box allows for connection to just about anything
• Hyeres/Toulon airport is a 40-minute drive, Nice and Marseille airports about 2 hours. Aix en Provence, with its art galleries, stylish shops and tree-lined boulevards is one and a half hours away, should you feel the need for an injection of culture, and Toulon is less than an hour.
• Sorry, no smokers – not even in the garden
• The pool can be heated for early and late season swimming
• The shallow end is 1.1 metres deep, so not advisable for unsupervised non-swimmers (but great for doing lengths)

About the host
Hosted by Alexandra and Iain Parsons

We are both retired from the publishing profession, Alex has taken up sculpture and Iain is never happier than when designing and creating a garden.
Why they chose this property
We searched the coast for the perfect combination of village life and seaside. We found it in Rayol, a small but vibrant community that has eluded developers. Rayol is the last true village on the Cote d'Azur. We love it here, and often come down in the winter for a dose of spectacular scenery and lovely walks.
What makes this property unique
This was a real challenge. The house and garden were unkempt and uncared for, the interior dark and gloomy, the garden a jungle. It's been a real labour of love getting the house back to its bones, filling it with light and opening up its spaces, giving it a chance to shine.
