Schade

good morning
My German is not good enough to understand all your comments, but I will just give you some of the report from my agent.:
Children had wet two of the single mattresses. If there are small children who wet the bed it would be normal for the parents either to bring a plastic sheet with them or to let the hosts know so that plastic sheets can be provided
The sum umbrella at the pool was broken - it had been left open despite warnings to close it before leaving the pool area. The wind blew it over. This was an almost new umbrella.
Hair in one of the beds could not have belonged to the cleaning ladies since they are all grey-haired and the hair in question was brown..
The fridge-freezer was absolutely clean..
It is true that there could have been yellow dust on the outside furniture. At this time of year the trees shed a fine yellow dust which needs wiping off every day. Nothing we can do about that..
There were other comments but I will leave it there.
If you would like to send me your comments in english or italian, please do so..

Our stay in the house in September 2021
Our family (8 people) spent its vacation at the this location the first 2 weeks in September 2021. In the past we stayed in multiple places and houses in Tuscany and other regions for many years. So we have good benchmarks.
There are are couple of up and downsides which we discovered during our stay:
Upsides
(1) the house is located in the true nature, super silent, nothing and nobody around who can disturb you.
(2) The house has the right size for 8 people. But this is the max.
(3) The house has a swimming pool area with a breath- taking view on the sea side (approx. 6 km away) The pool area is regularly maintained by the service personnel.
(4) Water supply (warm and cold) in both bathrooms is excellent.
(5) Equipment of the kitchen is good. We found everything what we needed.
Downsides:
(1) To reach the house you need to drive a pretty bumpy, partially very steep road. It is 2,2, km and time consuming. There is an alternative route to the house (via Castagnetto) which is much shorter but extremely steep. Walking distance to the Center of Castagnetto is 25 min on a very steep road.
(2) While the house as such is very beautiful, it is not well maintained and looks a little shabby. This applies to the entire interior, kitchen, garden, etc. This is a true pity.
(3) Service by the agency has been extremely poor (!!!). Onboarding into the house was delayed because the house was not cleaned before our arrival. We we were not overly happy with the behavior of the agency who handled our onboarding. Bedlinen handed over were in poor shape. Lamps were not functioning and had to be replaced by us.
(4) The location is not an appropriate place for older people and small kids. There are a lot of stairs. The pool area does not have necessary guard rails.
In summary, a beautifully located house for people who wish to stay in the nature. But the house needs a comprehensive overhaul and the service agency must be reminded to do a much better job. Then it would be worth the fare we paid.

Liked: Location, listing accuracy

Lovely place, but host could do so much better!
Very poor communication from the agent prior to our arrival, doesn't speak any English whatsoever. Check-in procedure very poor and disorganized. Cleaners still there at 6pm, but house still not very clean. House extremely poorly equipped: not even a single garbage bag on arrival, no dish-washing soap or sponge, no tea towels or dish cloths, no oven gloves or pot holders.
No wi-fi all week, cost us a lot in roaming charges, and we also had to purchase things that were not provided, such as tea towels, sponges, washing up soap, etc.
Pity, because location in the forest and pool are lovely, host could do so much better, but doesn't seem to care.
We enjoyed our stay at Trogolello very much! If you don’t mind driving some kilometers on a bumpy gravel path you will be rewarded with a wonderful, very quiet house in the nature! Castagneto Carducci is reachable on foot within 25 min. We enjoyed the nice walk to eat a delicious Pizza there. We also enjoyed to make our own delicious Pizza in the wood oven! 😊
The kitchen is very well equipped, lacking nothing, except for a “pizza shovel”, which we could buy cheaply at the local agri-shop.
I hope we will come back one day!

Grazie Maureen !! Great experience! Highly recommended
We arrived to Castagneto Carducci on a hot July day and Maureen had arranged that Mario, the housekeeper, was waiting for us so he could show us the way to the property.. After driving a long path in a wooded area we reached Trogollelo (the cute name of the house). My whole family was stunned at the sheer beauty! It was in a gorgeous place near the mountains, and we immediately fell in love with it. The house, to begin with, is huge (fits eight or more people) so we were eager to explore the inside. The patio right outside the house was were we ate most of our meals, since the weather was so nice in the day time and nighttime, and it had an unbeatable view. Inside, the house is all stone and windows on the first floor, so there is no air conditioning needed. The living room has comfortable couches and a television, and the kitchen was fantastic! A word to the kitchen: it has all the appliances and tools necessary for cooking and serving food. Those who love to cook will find this kitchen a luxury, since it has every possible utensil for cooking nearly everything in regards to Italian cuisine. Moving up to the second floor, there are four bedrooms, two with two single beds, and two with one matrimonial bed. All bedrooms have windows with a lovely view. There is one bathroom on the first floor (which has a washing machine and dryer in it, too), as well as one on the second floor, both equipped with showers. We found on both floors of the house there was ample space to move around, especially since there were 5 of us, and we never felt cramped or crowded. Aside from this, the decor was lovely and had a very warm Tuscan feel to it. It truly feels like you are living the Tuscan dream life in this house! Moving outside, there was quite a flight of stairs to get to the pool. The pool was located up very high, with many steps that were sometimes a bit tiring for the elder guests. On top of this, if you have very little kids the pool is so far away and not within view of the actual house that you will have to be up there as well to keep an eye on them. Once you arrive at the large size pool, however, the view is definitely worth it! It's located right on the mountains, and to the right there is a large forest, and looking straight ahead there is a slight view of the Ligurean sea. There are plenty of lounge chairs here, as well as a table under a small cabana for snacks and drinks.. Maureen and Mario made all possible efforts to guarantee a great stay

About the host
Hosted by Maureen Mele
We bought the house 35 years ago and completely renovated it over the years. It has very special memories for family and friends holidaying there every year.
Why they chose this property
It offers the best of both worlds : old house with thick walls keeps cool in the summer and yet the sea, shops and restaurants are just 6 minutes away.
What makes this property unique
The location with lots of hilltop villages plus the beaches and the easy access to places of interest is quite different from 'chiantishire' and very Italian. The nearby village of Bolgheri (which comes under Castagneto) produces the top award-winning wine every year.
