Nigel was an excellent host, communicative and informative. The accommodation had everything you could possibly need, although the wifi was a bit iffy at times. Its was very peaceful and a great area for walking your dog.
Great little cottage in a beautiful area, well equipped with everything you need. Gorgeous dining pub along the lane and canal to walk the dogs. Only recommendation would be to put gates on the courtyard wall. Booked again already.
A really great stay in a wonderful location. Nigel is a really good host and great to talk to. Good views and pub really close.
Lovely time sitting by the canal watching the boats go by.
Property has everything needed for a comfortable time.
Highly recommend a stay at The Stables.
Two of us stayed at this lovely peaceful location. The host was very helpful and pleasant throughout our stay. The property has everything you need for your stay, they really have thought of everything. Would definately stay again 10 out of 10..
Just had two nights at this lovely property, visiting relatives who live near, didn’t want to leave, ideal for us and our dogs, and what views from the windows across the fields, just so peaceful. We are looking forward to going back again to enjoy the surroundings and especially to stay in Nigel’s cozy, clean and homely stable conversation which has everything and more that you would need to spend your time in. We couldn’t fault it.
We had the best stay. Cottage is very clean comfortable and has everything you need for a perfect stay. Location by the canal is wonderful. Excellent communication with the owner. Lovely pub and cidery all within very easy walking distance. Enjoyed it so much have already booked for our 3rd stay next year. Thank you so much.
What a lovely little cottage. Nigel made us very welcome when we arrived and didn't bother us at all whilst staying there. The area was absolutely fabulous with open field and the canal right next to the cottage. The cidery was very nice and we came away with a few bottles. Overall had a fantastic stay.
The location and property were excellent. It was great to stay in a property that did not have a set of rules as one of the first things you were greeted with. Despite the comments on the description of the property that the wi-fi was likely to be slow we found it more than adeaqute and the TV had Netflix available.
A very warm and personal welcome from Nigel, our host. The converted stable had absolutely everything you needed to make our stay very comfortable. The underfloor heating and the log burning stove insured we were never cold. A thoroughly enjoyable stay right beside the canal lock, close to where we kept our canal boat.
A lovely weekend. Accommodation was perfect for my two dogs and l to use as a base.
Kitchen was fully equipped, with a fridge and freezer to use.
The accommodation, towels and bed linen all spotless.
Already rebooked for August.
We stayed for a week in December during a hard time for our family, and the property was just what we were after; rural, quiet and calm, with a lovely pub just yards away. The only issue we ran into was that the dishwasher was too small to clean the plates provided. But the owner was pleasant, the wood burner made things cost, and the bathroom was clean. Napton is a lovely village with a really good local store, and the Folly pub is fantastic. This property would work for a couples’ mini-break as I bet there are some good hiking routes in the area too.
A very enjoyable three night stay at the Stables.
A lovely conversion with just the right level of accommodation and facilities for us two and our dog.
A quality finish throughout and plenty of space in each room for a comfortable relaxed time.
The location is idyllic with the quiet surrounding countryside and the canal and locks alongside.
Nigel was on hand if you required any help or advise about local history or places to visit, a really nice knowledgeable chap!
Our time here left us feeling relaxed and refreshed, we would not hesitate recommending this property to anyone looking for a short stay getaway.
Louise and Peter from West Sussex.
Beautiful converted stables with a cozy log fire.
The local pub The Folly is a delight and the tow path walk was an added bonus for walking our Shih Tzu.
The host Nigel was so welcoming, we arrived during a storm and Nigel had come out to meet us with a bottle of wine.
Cooking facilities were perfect (I’m coeliac so we cooked our own food) and the dishwasher made clean up so much quicker so that we could enjoy a glass of Nigel’s wine in front of the log burner.
The house was clean and cozy and our dog loved the under floor heating.
We look forward to coming back.
Visiting family in the area, we have stayed before and love it here with our two little dogs. In the winter months it’s cozy and warm and this time of year you can be outside, it’s very private and has a table, chairs and umbrella to sit and look over the surrounding fields, very peaceful, the birds and the sheep are all you can hear and the daily life of people spending time on the canal which runs alongside where it is situated at Napton Locks. You can walk or drive into the village and stock up on lovely local produce, bread, cakes, pastries, meat, fruit and veg and absolutely anything you would need for that extra special treat, it’s just a wonderful Village Store and The Folly Inn and The Cidery are within walking distance. The owner has made sure there is everything you need for a perfect stay, it is well equipped, clean, plenty of towels, lovely bed, the list is endless, a real home from home and we feel comfortable there, we’ll be back so thank you Nigel for letting us stay.

A special winter retreat
We wanted a weekend away from all the stresses of standard life and we chose Nigel's cottage. Very easy to find even on a cold dark night and pick up of the keys at the Folly pub was accompanied by beer and good food. On entering we were pleased to find it was warm and welcoming and this little cosy place is simply decorated and outfitted with underfloor heating, a log burner, small but useful kitchen, modern bathroom with walk in shower and a cosy bedroom. There is no noise at all and it is very relaxing. There is no wifi but thats the point of getting away. The cottage is attached to the main house which sits next to the canal. This place is lovely.
Great stay again in this lovely cottage with everything you need during your stay. Bed very comfortable too which is always a bonus. Wonderful position alongside the canal, great walk for our 4 hounds. Little secure gated courtyard ideal to sit out in the sun for afternoon tea. The Folly pub is just past the boundary of the property so enjoyed a lovely meal there. You can see The Stables from the pub garden. Perfect little spot!
A most enjoyable 3 days at this really well located and also very well maintained cottage. The cottage is bigger than may first appear from the photos. (Note the bathroom is very nice too with a lovely modern shower - in case a photo of it still does not appear in the details of the property) Nigel was the perfect host.
Lovely little cottage, nestled between fields and the canal with a perfect pub at the end of the drive. Very quiet and peaceful. Small courtyard so the dogs could be outside. Walks along the canal and over the fields. Would absolutely stay again. Our host was perfect!! Warmly recommended
Our host and the property were brilliant, the cottage and peacefully area allowed us to catch up on much needed rest. Thank you Nigel for your kindness and wonderful cottage. X
I really love this accommodation. It has all you could need for a short, or long stay. It is very clean and Nigel the host is very affable. Whilst morally l know l should share this location, my dark side is saying not as l want to rebook for another visit and don’t want to run the risk of missing out!

About the host
Hosted by Nigel Wood
The owner Nigel is a canal enthusiast which led him to the property in the first place. Keen on all things steam, he occasionally crews on the Steam narrow Boat President on her trips away from the black country museum. Other interests include cycling and motorcycling. Napton is a great base for doing both
