About this property

Amber Cottage 3 Bed , In Snettisham, North Norfolk dogs welcome

A spacious 3 bedroom Victorian cottage situated within the quaint village of Snettisham. The cottage provides the home from home feel and is extremely well equipped.
Snettisham provides everything you may need, there are two pubs, The Queen Victoria and The Rose and Crown, The Rose and crown is particually good for food and has a lovely beer garden.
There is also a Bistro The Old Bank, you will need to book in advance, and also a breakfast/lunch/brunch place called The Old Store, they also sell home made bread and great cakes and pastries.
We have a CoOp that has great opening hours and a great selection of last minute food and drink including fresh bread.
At the other end of the road where Station road turns into Beach road is the Granary, great for breakfasts, lunches, homemade cakes , scones and Quiches etc
If you enjoy antiques upstairs at the granary is a treasure trove of goodies, there are also a few shops opposite the Granary.
If wildlife and nature are your thing there is a wildlife park in the village where you can bottle feed lamb, have pony rides, and go on their famous Deer safari, of course we have Ken Hill too and a RSPB nature reserve.
Snettisham and Hunstanton are the gateway to the North Norfolk coast line, the beaches are all fabulous.
One of our favorites is Old Hunstanton for it's beach, handy toilets and Old Hunstaton Beach cafe serving loads of freshly cooked breakfasts and lunches, the is also La Strange barns there which is great for a great variety of art and crafts for sale.
The cottage feedback in our visitors book describes the cottage as being bigger than you think and very well equiped.
We have added extra refrigerator space too with the addition of a counter top fridge.
Full central heating and an open fire in the lounge ensures the cottage is suitable all year round and as well as romantic breaks, we are child and dog friendly for all types of dogs.
We provide, to make your stay as relaxed as possible, towels, a high chair, a travel cot and stair gate, all bedding, and basic cleaning essentials such as dishwasher tablets and dish cloths and tea towels.
We also provide the use of windbreaks for the beach, chairs and some sand toys.
You will find tea bags and sugar, salt and pepper to save you the worry of packing those little bits and bobs.

Nice cottage but seemed a bit 'unloved'. Dog friendly but be aware neighbours have acess through garden. Co Op and 2 pubs in village. Local bus service. Makes a good base for exploring local area.

Home from home..it was a beautiful little cottage, parking was a bit awkward at times but overall,a pleasant stay. Would come back. Reason for 4 out of 5 cleanliness was there were lots of cobwebs which to be fair that was only down fall.

We had a lovely, albeit short stay at Amber Cottage. Lovely spacious accommodation, very well equipped. Just a short drive to the beach & fabulous walks through Snettisham woods.

FALLING FAR BELOW STANDARDS AS ADVERTISED.Unhygienic, unsafe, not as described in listing.Filthy throughout, cobwebs dead spiders in door frames behind TV even in bread bin everywhere throughout the cottage.Lounge : ( burnt out log and ash left in fireplace) adding to the foul smell.Bathroom : Mould/damp on ceiling. Dead flies In light.Kitchen : appliances dirty , oven filthy and hadn’t been cleaned. Baking tray still had remnants of food on it.. curtain on back door broken and stained. One of the cabinets damaged, and a part of a cabinet wedged down the side of another cabinet..Double bathroom: stained cushions on bed , curtain railing hanging off wall, crumb etc in draws , no carpet on floor ( floor boards with old paint marks on ) towel old hard and stained.Garden : unsafe, so could not use due to all the stuff ( dismantled garden shed , roofing tiles , sink taps , pallet etc ) all stored in the garden . Neighbour has access to the garden , gate left open , not at all safe , more a danger hazard. Parking: outside the front of the house 1 space, not always possible to park due to how neighbours have parked each side , the road is a very busy cut through so traffic at all times .Extremely disappointing .I have stayed in many holiday cottages and simply expected the same standards of cleanliness/safety and as described in listing..
Fire : Not cleaned out since last fire !

Good

Very clean and comfortable. Our only problem was parking. The neighbours parked outside their own houses but didn't lleave enough space for us to park. But the property itself was very good.

Not what we were expecting

We booked this holiday as we like to stay at a cottage when we go away. We were expecting a cottage like previous ones we’ve stayed in… This is a terraced house on a main cut through village road. Although inside was nice, there is very limited parking. We only managed to park directly outside for 1 night. The other times we had to park down the road and even then that was the last space! If you have an estate or 4x4 you would struggle as we did! And our car parks itself! There are no net curtains at any windows so there’s no privacy as you’re directly over looked from the opposite terraced houses. If you stay in the front bedroom you also get the road noise from passing traffic at all times including early hours! And there’s no carpet in that room, just 2 small rugs. Our daughter stayed in the back bedroom and couldn’t close the window so was fairly cold! Although the owner messaged to say about the small room wall needing work due to a recent leak, it was a lot more then we were expecting. The bathroom is nice and modern and the shower is lovely, but again it’s downstairs. No net curtains for the back door so felt we had to get changed/dressed in there. The garden was overgrown and there’s a chance the neighbours would walk pass as well through the garden! It is not child friendly!we didn’t use it at all! The cleanliness wasn’t the best! Cobwebs and spiders in the kitchen.. Crumbs etc in the utensil drawer and pots and pans cupboard. Stains on the carpet in the lounge. Fridge was abit dirty too. There are lots of family games and puzzles etc to keep you entertained. The beds were comfy, but we recommend to take your own pillows as they’re very thin. Spare pillows were in the wardrobe, but no spare covers for them…so we wouldn’t use them. Those with small children, we would not recommend. I think all the doors had locks on that you wouldn’t be able to unlock from the outside!thankfully our children are a little bit older, but still didn’t stop us from worrying! Also the front of the place is straight onto the road! So it was another worry! This is not what we were expecting and was pretty disappointed. We won’t be returning in the future. A lot of this information isn’t on the listing, only a few days before you go away do you get it, so there’s no chance to get a refund or change location. We feel it was very misleading! We live semi rural and no traffic noise etc so it only added to the disappointment.

A delightful homely cottage. The host is always accommodating and responds to messages. I love this cottage but maybe just check the crockery etc to ensure that there are good quality, matching glasses etc (a very pedantic point but it does make a difference.).

About the host

Hosted by Sally Watson

Host profile image
I was born in Norwich, and grew up on a farm in a little village near Wymondham.
My childhood was idyllic with many Sunday trips to the Norfolk coast.
We wanted to keep a connection with Norfolk after sadly losing my parents, we had always had at least a weeks holiday in Norfolk together every year.
I have many fond memories as do my children, there are so many things to discover.
We stayed in many cottages over the years around the coast line and Snettisham seemed to tick all the boxes with so much on offer in the area for all ages.
We hope we have created a lovely period cottage that is homely, comfortable, spacious and well equipped.

Why they chose this property

We love this area of the North Norfolk cost, lots to do, great walks , beaches dog friendly and fabulous pubs and restaurants.

What makes this property unique

I think it's great value for money, we provide wind breaks and other beach equipment for you to use and provide all the basics like tea bags , dish washer tablets, kitchen roll and toilet rolls, washing up liquid snd hand soap for all the sinks.
There's also a local CoOp in the village and a factory shop for anything you have forgotten.
There also enough places to eat in the village to sort all your needs during your stay.
