A village near to the mouth of the river Dart Estuary, it is on the North East bank of the river Dart estuary and stands opposite the ancient sea faring port of Dartmouth, Devon. The village has a Church, Primary School, Library, local shops, public houses, restaurants, rail station which has a seasonal steam train service to Torquay. It is the home of the Royal Dart Yacht Club and has the convenience of an established marin
Two vehicle/passenger and one passenger only ferries link Kingswear with Dartmouth and run throughout the day all year round.
A bus service links the village with the Torbay towns of Brixham, Paignton, Torquay, Plymouth, etc.
A great steam train service runs between Torquay, Paignton and Kingswear with another stops along the way. This service is a must for steam train enthusiasts, children and anyone who wants to rekindle their memories of steam trains. They run a wide range of steam engines including Thomas the Steam Engine.
Visit Higher Brownstone Farm, National Trust, with its 298 acres and footpaths, or try Coleton Fishacre Estate, another National Trust property with walled gardens, coastal footpaths and cove. This has been extended recently. Close to the house there is a formal pool garden and elsewhere wooded areas full of wild flowers descend the slopes to the sea. The microclimate in the narrow valley at Coleton allows many rare and tender plants to flourish. The wide variety of exotic plants provides interest throughout the year. Bamboos, mimosas, myrtle and other moisture-loving plants grow profusely around the pool and streams. In the spring the thickly planted rhododendrons, magnolia and camellias create a stunning display of colour. A gazebo provides superb views over the sea below.

Ask a questionAbout Max Manners
We fell in love with Dartmouth and had to buy this cottage because of the wonderful views and location. We have only used good quality new furniture and fittings in Rose Cottage. Rose Cottage is equipped with everything you need during a family holiday. We were attracted to Dartmouth because of the wonderful scenery and fantastic range of specialist shops and restaurants, very few national chains except M&S, Boots, Banks, Sainsbury. Jill makes a seasonal feature of the flower beds, if guests have time we would appreciate them watering the plants. The local ARTS centre - The Flavel - offers a wide range of the arts from current release films to international events to recitals, etc. We are very interested in completing a house swap with you at any time of year.
Max Manners purchased this cottage in 2003
Why Max Manners chose Dartmouth
Location, Location, Location - the best panoramic view of Dartmouth and the R Dart estuary. Dartmouth, South Hams, Devon is a very well cared for area with wonderful people, a mini Med. climate, super restaurants, places to visit, beaches, walks, etc. A local steam train is linked to a ferry trip to Totnes and an open bus to Paignton. Great walks linked to bus routes and ferries enables you to walk half way and return by bus, steam train or ferry. Dartmouth is NOT a "Kiss me Quick" location. It has a large range of art galleries, art related shops and specialist shops that you will only see in Dartmouth. The local Flavel Arts Centre has a catholic range of entertainment ranging from national names to "art house".
What makes this cottage unique
Its a great village with free on road parking. We visit Rose Cottage every month and can always park within 20 yards, except Dartmouth Royal Regatta week which is at the end of August. Many guests leave the car parked for the week and just walk, use the ferry, steam train or bus - its very relaxing. The view from all the rooms and garden, including the loo, is perfection, no camera can do it justice. The night view is even better, who needs a TV or Broadband - but we have both. Dartmouth has a Marks & Spencer Food Hall, a large Sainsbury's, Co-Op and lots of small local shops and restaurants ranging from Michelin starred to corner cafe's and pubs with food. Lots of locations specifically aimed at children ranging from crab fishing to a theme park.
