CURLEWS 4 star Gold period cottage sleeps 6 close to beach and town with parking

****LAST MINUTE BARGAIN - WEEKS OF 15/09 & 22/0923 NOW REDUCED TO £895**** (Reduced from £1328)
OCTOBER WEEKS ALSO STILL AVAILABLE

MAJOR RENOVATIONS RECENTLY CARRIED OUT / FOUR STAR GOLD VISIT BRITAIN ACCREDITATION AWARDED FOR THE SECOND YEAR RUNNING FOR 2023/24.

This beautiful, large period property is perfectly situated, right in the middle of the town, a stone's throw from the beach, harbour and the variety of quaint shops, pubs and restaurants. Curlews has recently been the subject of a major renovation and is decorated in a bright, fun and contemporary, nautical theme throughout. The property has been awarded a high-level four-star Visit Britain accreditation with a Gold standard award for the second year running for 2023/24.

This large Cornish stone cottage was built c. late 1500's and is spread over three floors. It is located in the heart of the picturesque fishing town of Looe, set back in a quiet square on the East of the town (the old medieval market square), between the beach, the narrow streets and harbour. You are literally on top of it all, there's no need to use the car once you arrive! One parking space is provided on the seafront, just a one-minute walk from the property.

The property offers three large bedrooms (two double bedrooms and a large twin room with full-sized single beds), a large luxury shower room and an additional cloakroom. The open-plan living area is equipped with a luxury fitted kitchen and integrated appliances, state-of-the-art Optimyst real flame-effect electric stove, comfortable sofas and a dining table with chairs to seat six. There is full central heating throughout the property and constant hot water. The cottage is also equipped with BT infinity ultra-fast speed Wi-Fi and has a large flat screen multi-media TV with Amazon Prime Fire Stick, featuring films, music, games and much more, all included in the cost.

Great care and attention has been paid to the decorating and design of the interior. Packed with interesting nautical objects and pictures, you really will feel like you are on holiday by the sea and being very well equipped, you have everything you need for a wonderful and relaxing break at Curlews.

Some major renovations were carried out to Curlews recently, which involved revealing the original beautiful stone wall in the main double bedroom, a full makeover of this room, including new LED ceiling spotlights and USB sockets, the installation of a traditional radiator and brand new carpets throughout the first floor and both staircases.

Looe is steeped in history, being famous for its smuggling heritage. You can even see the exit of a real smuggling tunnel in the building across the square from Curlews! Legend even has it that Jesus took a trip a by boat to Looe Island with his father Joseph as part of a pilgrimage (this was featured in an episode of 'Time Team'). Find out about this and Looe's fascinating history in the town's museum (opposite Curlews).

Looe is perfectly located for exploring the joys of Cornwall (it's close to Plymouth, so easy to reach and a perfect base to explore both Cornwall and Devon), is extremely easy to reach by London from train (a direct link runs from Paddington to Liskeard, with a very pretty short train journey alongside the river on the branch line to Looe), meaning that a car is not actually necessary to enjoy a break at Curlews. The town itself is very picturesque with its old quaint streets and historic architecture, lovely sandy beach and beautiful harbour and river and it nestles in amongst some of the country's finest landscapes, slap bang in the middle of the stunning South West Coastal Path.

A summer holiday in Looe can be a delight, but this part of the country truly is beautiful any time of the year. In fact a winter break in this part of the country gives you the beauty (if not more beautiful - it is really peaceful and tranquil in the winter) without all the hustle and bustle of the summer months. Did you know that towards the end of February it gets darker a whole hour and half later than in London - reason in itself to take a winter break here!

The changeover day for weekly bookings is Friday. Short breaks can start on a Friday, Monday or Tuesday.

Prices are inclusive of all linen, utilities and one allocated seafront car parking space. Well-behaved dogs are welcome (ground floor only) by appointment. A £200 fully refundable damages deposit is applied to all bookings.

** PLEASE NOTE THAT A SERVICE CHARGE IS ADDED BY VRBO TO ALL BOOKINGS MADE ON THEIR SITE (NOT A CHARGE MADE BY THE OWNER). THIS IS AN INSURANCE PAID TO HOMEAWAY WHICH PROTECTS GUESTS IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF DOUBLE-BOOKING ETC.

Perfect location, parking clean and tidy

Needed a get away long weekend to relax, Curlews Cottage was perfect. Even in November with the rain it was cosy close to shops, pubs and restaurants and harbour. We were four adults on a get away break and would recommend and stay here again ourselves. Owner and housekeeper very accommodating. Only thing missed was a DVD player in living room there is one in television in one of the bedrooms but needed one in living room.

Great location, very comfortable, a home from home

Curlews is located very close to the Looe beach and its pier, ideally located for morning strolls for a coffee or two. It is also very close to the restaurants and pubs, and there is a well stocked Co-Op minutes a very short walk away. We toured around the area during our visit, loads to do and see. Recommend Polperro & Seaton. You can't go wrong anywhere. The cottage is very well equipped to a high standard. Clean, tidy and comfortable. The reserved parking is very close and takes all the stress out of finding somewhere for the car. You can get quite next to the cottage by driving carefully through the narrow lanes for unloading and loading but you risk a ticket. We got away with it. We will definitely visit Curlew again.

Lovely Looe

Curlews Cottage was perfect for us. We have rented a couple of other cottages in Looe which (although there are only two of us) were so minute that everything was real hard word, even cramming both of us in the kitchen at the same time was a non-starter. So we opted for a bigger cottage and one where our Border Terrier was also welcome. It was spotless, beautifully equipped and the location couldn't have been better, 30 seconds to the beach one way and 30 seconds to the Chinese the other way. We walk a lot (costal path can be brutal...) so a lovely hot bath at the end of a walking day was restorative. WiFi was good to help us dip in and out of work. Huge sofa in the sitting room allowed for spreading out and general loafing with the papers. Three bedrooms meant our children could come and stay when their work allowed which was lovely. We'd definately reccommend Curlews and no doubt; we'll rent it again. Can't think that anything was lacking. Hope this is helpful. N

Fantastic Christmas 2019 in Curlews Cottage

We had a fantastic stay in Curlews. So loved this cottage, the area it’s in is brilliant as some days we didn’t have to go out in car. Looe has everything, shops, beach long lovelywalks which we did and did the lovely but hilly coastal walk into Polperro and bused it back. The pasty shops and pubs were visited by us on a regular basis. Along with 2 well stocked Coop stores. The cottage itself is beautiful fully fitted for a very comfortable stay by the 4 of us and one dog. Cooked Xmas lunch in the kitchen which has everything you need to be able to do so. Bedrooms all furnished beautiful just as I would hope quaint and tasteful. Choice of decor and furnishings pay tribute to the cottage it is beautiful. W All the best for the New Year.

The cottage is perfectly placed in Looe and is beautifully presented. We loved it.

Gorgeous little cottage with three lovely sized and beautifully presented bedrooms. The bathroom and additional separate toilet were fantastic too. The kitchen had most things we needed, a couple of big spoons wouldn’t go amiss though. The living room was comfy for the four of us but would be a squeeze for six and we found the sofas very low (we are all 5’10” and taller!). A little annoyed that the recycling bin was as full as could be throughout our stay (it was emptied the day we left after a week) but it didn’t deter from us having a wonderful time. We enjoyed wandering around Looe. I got up twice to see the sunrise which was incredible as the mist on the sea was rolling across the waves and the fishing boats were bobbing along. Would recommend to anyone! Great that it was dog friendly too. Toby loved it. He grumbled a little on the first night but only due to the noises around the cottage being different and other people coming in and out of adjoining properties. Thank you so much.

What a little gem, ideally situated for beach, shops, pubs and restaurants. Everything you need is at hand for self catering, however the only self catering we did was pour a bowl of cereal. Curlews is ideal for visiting some of the well known sites. We did the Eden Project, Gardens of Heligan, the Looe to Polperro walk stopping at Talland Bay for tea and cake (last bit of the walk is is a killer as part of the coastal path is closed. ) This names just a few of the places we visited. Had a fabulous meal at Trawlers on the Quay in Looe. Every meal we had was gorgeous, fish especially. The one thing we do not miss is the seagulls first thing in the morning when the fishermen brought in their catch. Mind you we were at the seaside. Julie you have done a sterling job with making the cottage like home, love everything about the place. One little thing I would like to point out is the wooden bottom step, perhaps a little marker on it to differentiate between the step and the wooden floor as it tends to blend in, I missed it on the first morning nearly went flying. I would just like to say thank you for a fabulous holiday venue. Diane

Up to date, but cozy, with all mod cons.

The house was so well equipped, really comfortable beds, and sofa's, a lot of fridge space, very very clean, and well organized. A real treat, with a lovely kitchen and bathrooms. Location was perfect. Julie the owner has been so easy to work with, always answering any mails upon receipt, and nothing was too much hassle. Would highly recommend Looe and esp. this holiday home, perfect. Gail

Very comfortable accommodation.

Would have been 5 stars but for the slight damp musky odour when we arrived but odour not noticeable after an hour or two. Beds comfortable. Foam mattress didn't suit me though(overheating in bed). WiFi great, TV great, parking fantastic very close by. Although I know it's a fisherman's cottage the wife and I struggled with the staircase which is very steep, very narrow & turns very sharply (nearly spiral). That's all the negatives really. We had a great holiday there and would come again also found locals were very helpful & pleasent. No need for outside space at this property because the beach is less than 1 minute from the door. My children loved it here. No problems at all and everything went smoothly for us. Happy Holidaying at Curlews.

Lovely cottage in great central location. The cottage was well furnished and very comfortable. The only negative was that the only tv available was through Amazon prime as the freeview didn't seem to work.

Beautiful cottage

Really lovely cottage - near the beach and loads of great places to eat -town was very busy over the Bank Holiday weekend, but a little quieter during the week. Winding staircase may not be suitable for all, but the quality of everything within the cottage is first class A lovely week with all the family (5 adults, one baby and a dog!)

Great property in fantastic location

We stayed in this cottage with our 2 year old and 8 month old baby. It was a fantastic location - lots of shops and restaurants on the doorstep and the beach was a few minuteswalk away. The property was clean and decorated to a high standard and we were able to move a few things around and make and it toddler proof relatively easily! Good wi-fi provided and Amazon TV was a bonus. Would highly recommend!

Excellent Holiday Cottage

The cottage is a really cosy place to stay, close to the centre of Looe, Parking not an issue as a pass is provided and only a few minutes walk away. The cottage has everything you may require for a holiday. We cooked some evenings and had all the equipment we needed. The new shower is great and there is a washing machine and dryer, verhy useful. For me the only downside is that the fans in the kitchen/lounge and bathroom has to be on all the time and can be quite noisey when watching TV and the bedding is all feathers, so anybody with allergies may struggle, but apart from that an excellent place, Julie the owner is very helpful and friendly, it has been lovely dealing with her. Thank you Julie.

Fantastic stay in Looe

Lovely property that has been decorated beautifully in a seaside theme. Fantastic newly fitted bathroom. Perfect location

Great little cottage, very cosy and had everything we needed for our weekend break. Lovely touches like buckets and spades for the beach and games for indoors when the weather wasn't that good! Right in the heart of Looe so eating out, shopping and getting around was super easy, especially with two young children. It is literally less than a minute walk from the car park and beach so no need to drag luggage very far. Would definitely recommend for a small family, does sleep up to six but it might get too cosy if you were staying for more than a few days! It was doggy friendly too so will take our dog next time :)

Fabulous, central, well equipped cottage.

Just enjoyed our first stay Curlews with our dog, Jake. What a wonderful find. Central to East Looe and all it's amenities yet the location was peaceful too. The cottage is very well equipped - (great to have a washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher in a cottage) with some very thoughtful additions such as cutlery you can take to the beach, and towels especially to wipe doggy paws, which I have not come across before in over 20 years of staying in Looe. All credit to Julie, she has created a wonderful place to stay, and credit too, to the housekeeping staff as it was immaculate when we arrived! We will definitely be visiting again!

Excellent!

Curlews is a very clean and comfortable cottage. We felt at home instantly. It is fully equipped with top notch appliances and accessories. The beds and bedding are exceptionally comfortable. Curlews is so central you don't need to go elsewhere (although I'm sure you will as nearby Polperro, Talland Bay, Black Rock etc are a must). We will go back with no hesitation. Julie (the owner) responded very quickly and pleasantly to our enquiries. The car park space is an added bonus as parking is expensive and restricted at times. Carol and Bill Stevens

Beautiful refurbishment to the downstairs, cottage is warm, welcoming at true home from home

Cottage has all you need for your holiday, location ideal, plenty of room for us, 4 adults, 1 14 month old baby, 1 dog, never felt under each other's feet. The recent refurbishment to the down stairs now finishes off the cottage, the owner has themselves a wonderful property, very jealous! 2 nd year of booking, would definitely look to book again in the future

Excellent and a well deserved 4 star.

The property was immaculately clean and in a brilliant location. We particularly liked the fire in the sitting room and the beds were very comfortable. The whole cottage was very well equipped and we had everything we needed. The parking space was a big plus as parking in Looe is not easy.

Why they chose this property

I decided to buy my home to retire to in Looe after taking several holidays in the area, particularly over New Year (which is a must, Looe really is the best place to spend New Year). I love the atmosphere of the town, the quaint shops and pubs, the stunning scenery and walks and being only just into Cornwall it is a really great base to visit this beautiful part of the country.

What makes this property unique

Curlews Cottage is really easy to reach by train - you can even get there for last orders if you travel from London after work! Its location is superb - you are right in the middle of everything - the beach, the harbour, the shops, the pubs and fabulous restaurants, but the set-back courtyard location makes it a peaceful retreat. It also has parking - something that is in very short supply in the town!

Looe is very famous for the quality of its fish. Its small harbour means that only day boats can land here, so you can rest-assured that the fish caught around the coast of Looe really is fresh! Look out for Looe Bay fish in some of London's swankiest restaurants! But never mind those, there are some fabulous seafood restaurants in Looe that you must try whilst you visit. No need to for a cab home either if you stay at Curlews, it's just a short stagger from all of the towns pubs and restaurants!

For those made of sterner stuff, why not try your hand at catching your own - regular mackerel fishing trips and longer day trips run from the harbour, or for the budding chefs, buy your own at Pengelley's fishmongers on the quay!
