Family holiday

This is a very comfortable and spacious house, we particularly liked the outdoor seating area. It was lovely to come in from the beach and for us all to enjoy a shower with plenty of hot water. The house is close to a busy road, which is quite noisy at times. Hunstanton is a lively town with a good atmosphere and lots to do for all ages. We however preferred Holme beach, you do have to book the car park in school holidays.

Family New Year

10 adults, a toddler and a dog stayed at Poppy House for 2019/2020 New Year. Spacious house with everything you need and more! Excellent location for the beach and town. We all agreed it was one of the best New Years we’ve had. Plenty of room to eat together and big enough if you wanted time to yourself. Excellent showers and very comfortable beds. Great communication with the owner. We would definitely recommend this house to anyone.

Good location and plenty of space

The property is located on the corner of a main road however we didn’t find it too noisy. The bedrooms are all very spacious as are the bathrooms. The kitchen is well fitted out and has ample crockery and glasses etc which is often not the case in a holiday let. Also the games and books were a nice touch. We did feel that the cleanliness could’ve been a bit better; they’re were crisps left out on the shelf of the coffee table and crumbs around the back of the toaster. One of the duvet covers also had a stain on- whilst I’m sure it was clean and washed, it didn’t look that appealing. The sofas in the lounge are a bit sunken and not the most comfortable! Overall a pleasant stay at the house and the location is great, five minutes walk to the seafront. A great space for families.

Bad experience

When we arrived at the property, there was a strong smell of animals so we had to open all doors to air it. Upstairs, a blind fell on us as we tried to close it. Other than that we had a pleasant stay, but my experience after check out was very unpleasant. I received a very curt email from the owner accusing us of bringing a dog to the property (which we didn't) and informing me that she was withholding the majority of our deposit as a result. After several emails back and forth and my having to get Home Away to intervene as I hadn't received a response in a week, the owner acknowledged that we were not responsible for the costs she supposedly incurred and I managed to get most of the deposit back. In the end I agreed to pay £60 just to draw a line under what was a very disappointing and unpleasant experience but I very much feel like I was taken for a ride. Would not stay here again and certainly would not recommend if you expect to get your damage deposit back.

Super house, spacious, conveniently located with all the "stuff" you need

Really good comms with Sara the property owner who quickly organised somebody to fix an issue with a non working bathroom light. Really spacious house for our group of 8 that ranged from 4 - 82 years old. The house had EVERYTHING you might need for your stay - beach games, fishing nets, washing machine, nespresso, cool block, huge fridge freezer, dishwasher....... (I could go on). Front garden was nice to sit out in after breakfast although the road noise was a bit louder than ideal. Sara has lots of great restaurant recommendations & we tried many of them! Would definitely recommend this property.

Family birthday

Had a great time with 3 generations together for a 65th birthday. Poppy House was just the right size for 10 people (aged 3 to 65) with plenty of space for the whole family. Facilities were good and location close to Hunstanton was ideal. Just a short walk to the promenade.

Lovely house, great location.

We really enjoyed our weekend at this property. However it is clear that the ground floor doesn't heat up sufficiently. Despite following your instructions and turning down the radiators upstairs, the ground floor was still chilly. The house is well equipped with everything you could possibly need and has lots of character. I'm sure we would get the best experience of the house and the area if we stayed in the summer, but nevertheless we still enjoyed our walks on Hunstanton beach.

About the host

Hosted by SARA NASH

Host profile image
We are Myles and Sara and we have 2 children under 10, so we know what it means to need a family friendly, home away from home when you go away!

Myles is a Housemaster and living in boarding school accommodation we decided we wished to have a coastal escape to use out of term time. We had visited the North Norfolk coast a few times and fell in love with all it had to offer - deserted beaches, amazing eateries, stunning landscapes and so much to do.

We knew Poppy House would be perfect the moment we viewed it. It had bags of space, which we were looking for, to ensure friends and family could always come and visit and the location was spot on. We love spending our holidays with friends and family, so on our search our priorities were finding somewhere we could spend time on the beach, visiting good local attractions and eating great food. We felt that Hunstanton offered us the opportunity to do all these things in a truly beautiful area of the UK and Poppy House gave us the space to enjoy it all, with great amenities - loads of bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and ample space for socialising.

We have had the house for 8 years and love spending our own holidays and weekends away here and hope you will too!

Why they chose this property

Poppy House is close to the beaches at Hunstanton and Old Hunstanton. Hunstanton offers the more traditional British seaside experience and Old Hunstanton offers miles and miles of stunning wide sandy beach. The dunes are the perfect place to hide on a more blustery day and there are beach huts to hire. One day we hope to own one of these quirky spaces, ideal for making a cup of tea or warming hot chocolate and to get changed after a refreshing dip in the sea! There is a great cafe, perfect for breakfasts and lunches and the all important ice creams, drinks and snacks!

The house is within walking distance of town, even for little legs, and we love the convenience of this. The deli is fab, there is a butcher, post office, banks, cafes, restaurants, takeaways, a variety of shops and 2 supermarkets. It offers everything we need for a holiday and we rarely need to visit Kings Lynn for provisions. Online supermarket deliveries take care of the 'big shop' with everything else being available locally.

When we are at Poppy House it is all about enjoying the comforts of our 'home' .... a really well equipped kitchen for creating family meals - lazy brunches and big Sunday roasts. We curl up on the sofa in front of the fire with a good book or DVD (we have over 100!) We play board games - plenty of family friendly ones for those wet Sunday afternoons and some that are definitely for after dark when the kids are tucked up in bed! We enjoy garden BBQs in the summer, watching the kids play whilst the grown ups enjoy a cocktail or cold glass of wine. And for those lazy days post beach we like nothing more than a hot fish and chip supper from Eric's in Thornham.

A trip for us isn't complete without ......

- A trip to the Sealife Centre
- A visit to the Norfolk Lavender farm and cafe
- A deer safari at Snettisham Farm Park
- A stomp around the Royal Sandringham estate
- Dinners at The Lodge and The Yurt for superb food!
- Family friendly sundowners at the Ancient Mariner

What makes this property unique

The house is within easy reach of the so called 'champagne coast' which starts in Old Hunstanton. This gives us access to all the lovely shops, pubs, beaches and restaurants the North Norfolk coast has to offer in balance with all the local attractions which are a hit with the children and teenagers who visit - parks, Sealife Centre, softplays, pottery cafes, farms, amusements, bowling, land train rides., boat trips, country estates etc. For our family, friends and guests without children there is still plenty to amuse with lovely local walking, cycling, watersports, antiques shops, places of local interest, nature reserves, the Hunstanton Theatre, bird watching, sailing and fantastic restaurants.

The profile of the area has been been elevated by the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - Kate & Wills (!) and their beautiful children, who now holiday here too, and we love the thought that they like hanging around the same beaches, farms and pubs that we may frequent!

We love that we can come without a totally packed car as cots, monitors, steriliser, toys, potty, highchairs, baby bath etc are already in situ! It makes such a difference when preparing for a holiday knowing that the house is so well equipped for our family holidays.

The house is a real home from home so we are not precious about children being children and coming on holiday and having fun! There is plenty for them to do at the house - toys, games, puzzles, DVDs, netflix, garden games, computer games and books. There are smart TVs in bedrooms, so older children can make dens or create their own cinema or games room! Younger children are well catered for with all the baby and toddler paraphernalia you could need.

Poppy House will help you create fantastic childhood memories for your brood!
