About this property
Quirky, Spacious House in Medieval Square. Nr Cheddar/Bristol/Bath
Quirky & spacious, the 'Old Angel' in lovely Axbridge enjoys pride of place in a Medieval Square. And offers a best-of-both-worlds location too! Near renowned Cheddar Gorge in the Mendip Hills - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - with stunning Somerset countryside on the doorstep it's also in easy reach of three great UK cities: Bristol, Bath & little Wells.
With wood-burners, arty charm and a large rambling 'secret' garden, it's a home-from-home house, loved by guests for relaxing friend & family get-together's. Airport, coast, culture & heritage sites all nearby.
A Listed house which combines a sense of history with contemporary comfort, the Old Angel is artisan and eclectic in style - flagstone & wood floors, old fireplace or two, scattering of beams, up-cycled furniture, vintage & arty decor.
With a Mediterranean style courtyard for al fresco dining/BBQ area, there's plenty of outdoor space to relax in. And hidden away from the house, with steps leading up, there's a large & secluded 'secret garden' with several terraces. (En route, you'll go past the Little Angel, a small annexe at the rear of house. Very occasionally a working wildlife photographer friend may stay there. It has its own separate entrance & won't impact on your privacy.) The entire rambling garden & courtyard is exclusively yours to enjoy. Please note: not suitable for unsupervised youngsters.
Spread over three storeys - with 5 bedrooms on each of the first and top floors and an upstairs lounge - the flexible accommodation happily suits either small or larger numbers of guests.
GROUND FLOOR:
Fully equipped kitchen seating 9, with wood-burner
Adjoining cosy snug room
FIRST FLOOR:
Upstairs living room with wood-burner, overlooking the Square
Spacious King size bedroom/ en-suite bathroom (freestanding bath)
Queen size bedroom
Large wet room with 'rain' shower
TOP FLOOR:
Very large Super King size bedroom overlooking Square
Twin bedroom with 'Zip & Link' bed options: as 2 singles or 1 Super King
Single bedroom
Bathroom - sunken bath. Enjoy a candlelit bath with a Mendip view!
We'd like the house to feel like home-from-home. With a fully equipped kitchen, gas hob/fan oven, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, fridge & freezer it's well suited for self-catering.
Eating out is also an easy option. Axbridge itself has two good food-serving pubs and charming tearoom. There's a huge variety of restaurants, cafe's and eateries throughout the area: from great fish & chips to Michelin rated inns.
Not to mention those famous cream teas, Farmers' Markets, cider tasting farms & character rural pubs!
GUEST ACCESS
Entrance is directly off The Square. You can park, unload, receive food deliveries right outside.
The large secluded 'hidden' back garden is accessed by private alleyway - past the Little Angel apartment at the rear of the house. (A friend may occasionally stay- separate entrance via alleyway).
THE AREA
Axbridge offers a real 'has-it-all' location.
Landscape-rich countryside: the Mendips, Somerset Levels, gorges, caves, coastline. A wonderful base to explore the great outdoors for walkers, cyclists, climbers, photographers.
Cheddar reservoir & national SUSTRANS cycleway, the 8 miles Strawberry Line track also right on the doorstep.
And there's easy access to great cities, culture & buzz:
- Vibrant Bristol, 19miles/half an hour away
- Georgian Bath. A beautiful drive up Cheddar Gorge and over the Mendips
- Charming Wells, the UK's smallest city: Cathedral, Bishop's Palace and twice-weekly markets
