Beautiful villa with a super pool. Lovely private pool area and garden with an attractive covered eating area. The villa was well equipped and comfortable. The owners were flexible in our arrival and leaving days which really helped. Thanks for a great holiday.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay, and that we were able to make that possible.
In general, however, we do have to keep to Saturday changeovers.
We stayed for two weeks, a family of four. Every family member could do what they wanted in the area. Swim in a lake, the sea, a river, at waterfalls and off course the lovely pool by the house. We visited lovely French towns, vide-greniers ans winehouses. The house is nice, fully-equped Kitchen, nice bathrooms and not far from the outside world. Communication with owners went perfect! If you have a question, you just have to ask and within minutes you have an answer! We would recommend the house to everyone! Tijmen, Tijl, Mels and Simone

Thanks. Delighted we were able to answer your questions. Yes, the area around Barjols has a lot to offer. And the pool is great to come back to after the sightseeing
The perfect place to relax and to explore the area
We've spent 1 week at Maison Genet in July and really enjoyed the house! It's in a quiet area, right at the edge of the forest and its garden offers enough privacy to enjoy the pool "au naturel". Jet it's not far from the town and just a 10 minute walk to the nearest Boulangerie, which was our favourite one during our stay in France this year. The nearest supermarket can be reached in a 3-minute drive.
The house is extremely well equipped (better than most first homes) and offers numerous places in the shade. Temperatures reached 38° C during our stay, but the house or outside sitting areas were never to warm. The pool was perfect for us and our 2 kids at nearly 30°C.
This definitely wasn't our last stay at Jenny's and Richerds beautiful house!

Delighted that you enjoyed the calm of Maison Genet and the pleasures of the pool to the full. Also pleased to hear that the traditional design of Maison Genet meant that you could be comfortable in the very high temperatures you experienced during your stay. Jenny and I look forward to welcoming your back to Maison Genet in the near future.

Beautiful and peaceful hideaway in the Provence countryside
We loved our stay in Maison Genet. The house has a relaxed feel and is well and thoughtfully equipped; even the knives in the kitchen seemed to have just been sharpened! The pool is well maintained and very much appreciated in the 35 degree heat that we had during our stay. The property was clean and well maintained.
One of the things we most enjoyed about the property was the outside space; a comfortable lounger is parked at one end of the garden in the shade which makes a perfect place to read and admire the view. There is even some space to play Petanque, which was a lot of fun. The owner Richard was very helpful throughout.
Barjols has a lot of charm and is only 20 minutes walk away. The excellent Patisserie is even closer. There are beautiful villages not too far away in the car - Tourtour was one of our favourites.
Finding somewhere so comfortable and so private is a rare treat and we will definitely be back.

Very happy to have been able to help you in the prep for the holiday, and I look forward to be able to welcome you back. best wishes Richard

Charming villa with a great pool and a great location.
We stayed at Maison Genet in July 2017.
The villa is itself is fairly compact but great for a couple or small family. It has pretty much everything you could need, including lots of walking maps and guides to the local area, as well as helpful notes from the owners and previous guests, with tips about the best places to visit. I have never stayed somewhere with so much information on hand.
The best part of the property is the outdoors. The pool is fantastic, and there is a big terrace with a good view where we sat every night for meals. There are extended gardens away from the house with good views and places to sit and read.
The villa is not overlooked and is very peaceful ( some houses are being built further down the hill but that did not disturb us). Barjols itself is not the prettiest town in the region, but it is a very good base for exploring from. Aix, the coast and the Verdon Gorge were all within 75mins drive. There is a great bakery and big supermarket within 5 mins drive of the property.
Richard was very helpful and easy to deal with.
I would recommend this to anyone.

Beautiful retreat in a wonderful area of France
This was our second stay in Maison Genet and we enjoyed it just as much as our first. As long as this house is available to rent, we will come back! The things that we particularly enjoy are the pool, the relative seclusion and lack of immediate neighbours (nearest property is perhaps 100 ft away) and the wonderful surroundings; the house appears to emerge from a rocky cliff that itself backs onto the forest.
There is plenty to do if you have a car (and you will need one) in the surrounding area but we particularly enjoyed relaxing and doing very little; its that kind of a place. We did pay a visit to Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, which is very beautiful; get there early before the crowds appear.
Well equipped and comfortable, this year there was the welcome addition of a large gas fired paella cooker that we enjoyed using. The plot is big enough to find your own spot away from your fellow holiday makers if you so desire.
Don't forget your inspect repellent if you are troubled by the wee beasties and enjoy cooling down in the pool in mid-afternoon when in July and August it can each 35C or higher.
The local patisserie is 10-15 minutes walk and the croissants are great. Barjols has a lot of charm but we didn't tend to spend a lot of time there. This year we caught the Tour de France on the way to Salon de Provence and I was able to indulge my passion for astrophotography as the skies are clear and dark enough.
We had a great time.

Great holiday house with pool. Well equipped. Great location for exploring locally & further afield.
An attractive and comfortable house, much as we expected from the website and owner's description (they were also most helpful in answering any questions before & during our stay). It's well equipped and provided virtually everything we needed for a most enjoyable 2 week stay. The pool was regularly and diligently maintained throughout and the property and grounds provide pleasant, elevated views towards Barjols and pretty hills in the distance. Barjols itself is an attractive large village with an impressive collection of fountains, narrow streets and pretty houses. There's a good boulangerie and an Intermarche within a 5 minutes drive of the house and another small supermarket the other side of the village plus independent shops in Barjols center.
We fell into our usual pattern of alternate days out and days at home enjoying the pool, house & location.
For shorter day trips, there are numerous attractive towns and villages within easy striking distance. Too many to explore in a single holiday. Most boast at least a few restaurants plus interesting and attractive old buildings to visit and explore. It doesn't take long to work out that the countryside in this area can quickly change from forested to open, hilly to flat, cultivated to wild - all of which adds to it's charm and interest.
We also struck out on some longer day trips:
- St Tropez - prettier, with a nicer atmosphere than we'd expected - best approached along the attractive coast road from the west to avoid jams,
- Verdon Gorge - very scenic - requires a complete day to do it justice - one scarily high road bridge,
- Mount Ventoux - the climb from Sault is attractive and not too steep - what a view from the top!!
- Avignon - really, it needs more than a day, loads of history,
- Monte Carlo - lots of hustle and bustle, a set of streets you simply have to drive, and a harbour you have to walk.
- The Camargue - Saintes Maries-de-la-Mer and especially Auiges-Mortes are well worth seeing.
At the end of each long day it was great to get back to the house. We slept well there, nights being cooler than days.
So, it's a great base for exploring the area - the east-west motorway (within 20km of the house) making some longer trips possible.
You really do need a car to explore this part of France although we avoided the largest cities of Nice, Toulon and Marseille because even their outskirts were busy. For these, public transport might be a better option.
A great base for exploring.

Thanks for your kind review, and for pointing out its great location. You certainly made good use of the autoroutes to see the further flung sights along the Cote d'Azure and the Camargue.
Monte Carlo is about 2hr15 drive from Barjols, and can also be accessed by train: the roads in and out of the city can get very clogged. Helicopter from Nice Airport is quite cool too...
Aigue Mortes is about 2hr30: Arles (think van Gogh), Nimes and Saintes Maries de la Mer are on the way to Aigues Mortes.
Charmantes Haus mit allem Inventar was man so benötigt. Sehr ruhige Lage.

Just sitting at the airport very disappointed to be going home from what was a lovely place to stay near Barjols. Maison Genet feels like a home rather than a rental with way more little extras than you would normally get. Paella outdoor burner, great BBQ, telescope and a huge library of information on the region! Maison Genet is perfectly placed just outside Barjols and is very quiet. The pool is lovely and so is the outdoor seating area. One tip - electric boat hire from Quinson to travel up through the Gorge du Verdon £70 for 6 hours - it was idyllic.

Delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Maison Genet, and that you felt at home there. That's exactly what we try to achieve so that our guests can fully enjoy their precious holiday time. I hope you may be able to return in the not too distant future.
After travelling around France for our first week it was a pleasure to settle for a week of rest and relaxation in the wonderful Maison Genet. We didn’t venture out much but instead enjoyed the poolside every day. The house is beautifully situated in a quiet area and isn’t overlooked. Richard & Jenny have thought of everything and equipped the house for all needs! We didn’t go out to eat, instead we enjoyed our meals sat outside watching the sun go down..a perfect way to end the day! I have only one tip to give anyone, if you are prone to mosquito bites take plenty of mosquito repellant and use immediately, being in the country there are plenty of them and they are hungry little blighters! This didn’t in any way spoil our time at Maison Genet and would recommend it in a heart beat. Thank you so much Richard and Jenny for giving us the opportunity of staying in your wonderful home.

Thanks for your kind review and delighted you hsd a relaxing break after your travels.
Regarding the mossies, they can be a problem in the the South of France in September. That said, this part of Provence is normally too dry for mosquitoes.
We do provide smoke cools and spays to deal with insects.

We are delighted that you were able to enjoy Maison Genet and the area in which it is located. Thank you for your kind remarks, and we look forward to being able to welcome you again.
From the booking process with
Homeaway through to leaving the villa at the end of the holiday the whole experience was excellent and very easy. The owner Richard was very easy to contact and responded quickly with any queries we had.
Overall we liked the location of the villa within the village. Quite secluded and high up on a hill with great views, not overlooked and very quiet at all times of the day. The only thing you could hear was the wildlife in and around the property.
We didnt visit a lot of places we mostly stayed in and enjoyed the pool / outside space and well equiped villa. Our children ( 10, 10 and 12 ) loved the pool and i introduced them to boules which they also enjoyed. The weather was very warm whilst we were there around 30-35 degrees c but despite this the villa with its very traditional thick walls was mostly cool inside and fans were supplied by the owner when it got a little too warm mostly overnight upstairs.
I did explore a bit of the area on my bike whilst there ( about 120 miles around the area ) which i really enjoyed riding through this very beauriful a
and traditional part of france.
We havent ruled out maybe booking again at some point so thats praise enough. Overall a great week and thanks again to the owners.

Maison Genet, June 2017 - home from home and with the luxury of having a pool!
We certainly would re-book Maison Genet, it had everything we needed for a luxury holiday, including our very own herb garden, as rosemary and Thyme growns in abundance. The kitchen was well equipped with a dish washer (very nice thank you) and a washing machine! The Rose wine went down very well. We found the house clean and cosy. We enjoyed many meals sitting on the terrace under the cooling pergola covered in vines. The views from the terrace were lovely. The pool was very welcoming in the heat and there were plenty of loungers for us to sit or fall asleep in, lovely! Wish we were back there!
Verdon Gorge and Lac St Croix didn't dissapoint, the lake is a specular blue and great for swimming including small children. We found there to be lots of shade from the trees and including pic nic benches. We returned a couple of times as we enjoyed it so much.
We kayaked at the lower part of the gorge. There's lots of lavender to see on the road to the gorge and the lake, not to be missed. Richard and Jenny provide you with a welcome pack that includes the best places to see the lavender.
We also visited Moustiers Saint Marie which is a very beautiful medieval town.
There are so many beautiful places to visit in green Provence that our one week didn't allow us to see, therefore, we certainly would return and stay in Mainson Genet!
The house is a great base for visiting, including cycling, my husband (an avid cyclist) enjoyed the hills and cols to explore! Basically, a great holiday for couples, families and sports fanatics but where you can also unwind and spend lazy days sitting on the terraces or swimming at Maison Genet!
Thank you Richard and Jenny!

Awesome and beautiful!
This house is one of the most beautiful places I have been to. The view is wonderful, there is no noise, we enjoyed the silence. Very relaxing for eyes and ears.
The kids (6 and 8 years old) enjoyed the pool, we enjoyed the shadow in the patio and read a couple of books. As we only had one week we didn't make too many trips, but the preparation and recomendations from the owner were perfect.
The house is very well equipped. For cooking we used the barbecue as well as the inside kitchen. There is no need to leave the place - just for shopping at the supermarket and in the morning for the boulangerie (the baguette, the croissants, the pain au chocolat... superb!).
We felt welcomed in every sense and we will definitely come back!

About the host
Hosted by Jenny and Richard Rees
Jenny Rees lives in Edinburgh in Scotland. She and her husband bought the house in 2014. Richard died recently but Jenny has kept on the house as she and her children and grandchildren love spending time there.
Why they chose this property
Richard met the previous owner who also lives in Edinburgh and who told him of the house in Provence that she had owned and enjoyed for over twenty years. Richard and Jenny spent their first week in the house in March 2014 and fell in love with it: the house, the terrace, the pool and garden, the olive grove, the wonderful views and the beautiful surrounding area. Barjols is not a twee place: it is a working French-speaking town, which we think adds to the satisfaction of coming to France. Very much on the up, with new supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and traiteurs. And, naturellement, an excellent boulangerie nearby, to reward an early morning stroll with freshly baked baguettes and croissants to eat on the terrace.
What makes this property unique
Our guests remark favourably on Maison Genet's location. South facing with a clear view across t the Mont La St-Baume Massif. Near to the facilities of a lively town, but still in the countryside: quiet but not isolated. Easy travel to and from the airports, and to the beaches, mountains and lakes of Provence, Monte Carlo, Cote d'Azur and the Camargue. Maison Genet has the feel of a cosy home rather than a hotel apartment And a great pool to swim lengths in and for play or simply to chill under a starry sky! Dark skies and clear air mean good astronomical observations: a telescope is available.
