Beautiful 4* Stone Gite in the Dordogne

Lanquais is a medieval village (featured in 'The Most Beautiful Villages in the Dordogne') dominated by Chateau de Lanquais, and surrounded by beautiful countryside with numerous forest walks.

Just 20 minutes from Bergerac airport, Lanquais is ideal for exploring the Dordogne with its beautiful scenery, numerous chateaux, medieval villages and towns. Within striking distance are Sarlat, Beynac-et-Cazenac, Perigueux, Cahors, the Correze and stone-age sites of the Vezere valley. Canoeing, swimming, walking, cycling, fishing and golf are all available in the local area with golf available at the prestigious Chateau Les Merles. There are numerous walking, running and cycling routes (both on and off road), and the area is perfect for motorcycling too. The medieval market town of Issigeac is also nearby with a lovely typical French market on Sunday mornings.

Lanquais village has a superb, reasonably priced restaurant Les Marronnieres, which also has a friendly bar. The nearest town is Lalinde, only about a 10 minute drive for supermarket shopping, or Bergerac (20 minutes away).

The Gite itself is a wing of a converted barn, set in five and a half acres, 1 mile outside of Lanquais. It has been awarded a 4* rating by Tourisme de France. It is a very tranquil and peaceful setting with some wonderful views. The Gite has WiFi and both French and English TV (with some Spanish channels also available). There is a separate lounge with its own private terrace where you can access the small plunge pool and enjoy the sunset or the views with a glass of wine or two! There is, a large vaulted kitchen dining room, with new oak fitted kitchen, a downstairs bedroom with a double bed, with a mezzanine area above with two single beds. There is an ensuite shower room to the main bedroom. A travel cot is also available if required. Also, If needed, a further double bedroom with ensuite shower is available by separate negotiation (attached to the main house with a separate private entrance) so that the Gite could accommodate a party of six (or seven with a baby). Please note the property is newly renovated and the plunge pool is also new.

Lovely charming property in a very quiet location. The gite was immaculate and very well laid out.

We enjoyed our stay immensely and Lisa and Graham were great hosts. The property is very well laid out and exceptionally well equipped. We are very familiar with the area and the location of the gite is very quiet with beautiful surrounding countryside. Loved the two girls remy and jaz. Certainly if we need to stay in the location again we will use Lisa and Graham's lovely gite.

Amazing property in a lovely secluded setting

A really lovely break. The cottage was amazing and Lisa and Graham have thought of everything whether staying for a few days or even longer. We would love to go back there again. So much thought and effort has been put into making things perfect. The quality of the finish and facilities are first class.

Beautiful and peaceful Gite

We spent a wonderfully relaxing 8 nights at this stunning gite less than 2 or 3 miles from the River Dordogne. Surrounded by fabulous countryside its an ideal base from which to explore the area whether on foot, mountain bike (follow the orange stones!) or car. Lisa & Graham are perfect hosts, never in the way but always on hand if you need any information or assistance. Highly recommended!!

Lovely relaxing break in stunning countryside!

We stayed for five nights this week, as we had a rare chance to get away on our own for a few days. I have wanted to visit the Dordogne for years and I wasn't disappointed! We went to Saint-Emilion, Sarlat, Beynac, Dommes and many other little villages. The Gite was one of the best equipped properties I have stayed in, either in the UK or overseas. We had a sitting room, large kitchen/breakfast room, good double bedroom, shower room and a mezzanine for children. It was immaculate and the owners were extremely helpful and informative about the area and nothing was too much trouble. We were even invited to a very enjoyable BBQ on our last evening. Lisa and Graham had just installed a plunge pool for the Gite, which was very welcome on the days when it was hot. Two fabulous labradors also made my visit! We would definitely return!
