About this property
Beautiful Beach House on 40th Street with Views of Ocean
Sea La Vie -- Sunset Beach is a great property situated on one of the most desirable streets on the island. The interior of the house was recently repainted and now provides a bright beachy atmosphere for your relaxing family vacation. The house is in a quiet location just a short walk to both the beach and the inter-coastal waterway. Enjoy dinners around the rustic kitchen table, drinks on the screened-in porch and beautiful views of the sun setting over Bird Island from the second floor balcony.
The house has five bedrooms -- three upstairs and two downstairs -- each with a controllable ceiling fan. The ocean can be seen from the upstairs bedrooms. The two bedrooms on the front of the house (one downstairs and one upstairs) have a king bed and a queen bed, respectively, and sliding glass doors leading onto private balconies overlooking Bull Creek and the marshes of Bird Island. The two bedrooms on the back of the house (one downstairs and one upstairs) also have queen beds. As an added bonus, there is a twin bed located in a small bedroom on the back of the house.
There are two bathrooms (one downstairs and one upstairs) that are shared by the bedrooms on each level. For the more adventurous, there are two private outdoor showers located under the house.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, dishes, glassware, barware and silverware to easily feed and entertain a party of twelve. The large square kitchen table seats eight or more and is the perfect place for family dinners or late night card games. The kitchen has a large refrigerator with ice maker, an electric range, a microwave, a dishwasher and and a garbage disposal. A coffee maker and single-serve coffee maker are provided, as is a blender for smoothies or tropical beverages.
The spacious living area at the front of the house provides comfortable seating for both adults and children. There is a large coffee table that is perfect for playing board games or assembling puzzles. For the digitally inclined, there is a large screen television with SmartTV and a Blu-ray/DVD player in the living room as well as smaller SmartTV televisions in all of the bedrooms. Wireless internet is provided through a cable internet router.
Off the front of the living room through a set of sliding glass doors is a screened-in porch with patio furniture. It is the perfect location to enjoy morning coffee or evening drinks. With the serenity of the Bird Island marsh just across the street, the peacefulness experienced while sitting in one of the rocking chairs reading a book is unparalleled.
Under the house is covered parking for cars, rocking chairs and open air space for children to play. A new gas grill also provides a large platform for outdoor cooking.
Unlike other property rentals at Sunset Beach, Sea La Vie comes with many items that other owners require their tenants to rent or bring with them for their stay. For instance, we provide a number of beach chairs and a beach wagon for renters to use during their stay. (Linens, however, are not included with the rental).
The boardwalk beach access on 40th Street is just a few minutes' walk from Sea La Vie and has no stairs, making it one of the easiest walks to the ocean on the island. The house's close proximity to the ocean make it convenient to return to for bathroom breaks, lunch or a mid-day nap for the children. The beach at the 40th Street access also is the least crowded because there is no development beyond this point. Rolling surf and a gently sloping beach also make it a good place to learn to handle a surfboard.
At the center of Sunset Beach Island is a small village of shops. You can take a leisurely stroll from Sea La Vie to get ice cream, Italian ice, snacks and island souvenirs. You also can grab a casual lunch overlooking the ocean at the Sunset Beach Pier Grill. Finally, if you need need something during the day, there is a small grocery store on the island.
For those who prefer fresh water entertainment, Bull Creek and the waterways through the marsh beyond 40th Street provide peaceful areas to kayak or stand-up paddle board. Boats and jet skis are available for rental from marinas in nearby Ocean Isle or North Myrtle Beach.
For golfers, the area surrounding Sunset Beach has a wide variety of courses challenging to all levels of players. Given the number of courses, it is rarely a problem to find a tee time. There are even putt putt courses for little golfers to enjoy.
You will also enjoy the many restaurants that are within a short drive of the house. In addition to the many local seafood restaurants, there are excellent Italian restaurants, Mexican restaurants, continental restaurants and even a Jamaican restaurant.
Finally, for those looking for more excitement, the bright lights of Myrtle Beach are just over the border in South Carolina. With outlet shopping, restaurants, live music, carnival rides, miniature golf and the boardwalks, there is something to entertain every member of your family.

About the host
Hosted by John & Britt

We are long time residents of North Carolina and have taken a summer vacation to Sunset Beach every year since our children were born. Our entire family has loved Sunset Beach since the kids were very young -- dragging their plastic pails and shovels down to the shoreline to play in the tidal pools and try to catch hermit crabs. Having visited many beaches along the East Coast, we continue to be impressed by the warmth of the water, the powdery sand, the width of the beach and the miles of walkable undeveloped coastline between Sunset Beach and South Carolina. Although the kids' interests now trend toward surfing and stand-up paddle boarding, we all continue to cherish the time we spend at Sunset Beach.
Why they chose this property
We had been looking to purchase a beach house at Sunset Beach for years. Last year, the perfect house came available: Sea La Vie -- Sunset Beach. We love the fact that the house is on 40th Street (the last street on the western side of the island) and that it has an open floor plan. The bedrooms upstairs and downstairs allow adults and children to enjoy time by themselves, while the porches and other balconies provide great spaces for drinking coffee in the morning or entertaining in the evening.
What makes this property unique
Sea La Vie -- Sunset Beach is unique because of it architecture and its location. This classic beach house has a bright, open feel with five bedrooms divided between two stories. The boardwalk beach access on 40th Street, only a few minutes' walk from the house, has no stairs, making it one of the easiest walks to the ocean. The beach at the 40th Street access is the least crowded because there is no development beyond this point. The front of the house faces Bird Island, so after spending a day at the beach, the entire family can come back and enjoy the setting sun and ocean breezes from one of the three porches.
