A breezy, authentic escape on Bald Head Island. Just 650 feet from South Beach, our home offers panoramic ocean views, privacy, and the perfect layout for two families or a group of friends to relax and recharge.


THE LIVING SPACE & KITCHEN
Inside, you’ll find a bright and spacious reverse floor plan with the main living, oversized kitchen, and dining areas upstairs to maximize the ocean views. Large windows on three sides flood the space with natural light, while a fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops offers everything you need to cook and gather. Whether you're enjoying cocktails at the bar, reading in the great room, or playing board games at the dining table, there's plenty of room to connect with your people.


PORCHES & VIEWS
The screened porch, with comfy, upholstered chairs, and adjoining sun deck offer the perfect places to sip morning coffee, listen to the surf, or watch ships glide by on the ocean and Cape Fear River. In the evening, the west-facing porch becomes your front-row seat to island sunsets—best enjoyed from a rocking chair with a cold drink in hand.

Great Family Getaway

Conveniently located near the BHI Club. With all 4 bedrooms on the first floor and living room on the second floor there was privacy for those that wanted to go to bed early. Great screen porch on the upper floor as well with expansive views. All the chairs and umbrellas needed for beach. Made for memorable family vacation.

Last minute trip to BHI and we were shocked that a place this awesome was available in season. Susan is a wonderful host - very responsive and seemed genuinely concerned with how we were doing throughout our stay. The third floor (second living space floor) is exactly what you want in a beach house - very open, gorgeous views every way you look, and an absolute picture frame of a shot of the sunset. Highly recommend, we'll definitely be back!

This was perfect for two families with little kids. We loved the upstairs living space with views of the ocean in every direction. Two masters and two golf carts made it comfortable for the adults, and we spent hours on the screened in porch listening to the waves. We would definitely return.

We just returned today from a memory-filled week at Second Wynd. The home was lovely, with the screened in porch being our favorite hang out area in the house - always a lovely breeze and great view of the ocean...we could hear the waves lapping in the distance. We had 7 adults and our two little granddaughters...the house was more than big enough for us to gather in any area. Great location - right next to BHI club, not far from the harbor area, the Market or the Shoals club. The East Beach is one of the nicest beaches we've ever been to. We fell in love with Bald Head Island and everyone in the family wants to make it our new annual family vacation.

Spectacular ocean views, well-appointed and comfortable!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this well-appointed, very comfortable and ideally located beach home. If you plan on spending time at the BHI Club, you'll only be a 3 minute golf cart ride away - so convenient (including if storm clouds roll in suddenly!) The views from the top floor of the home, where the kitchen and living area are, are wonderful. You can see the ocean and the screened-in porch is a perfect vantage spot to enjoy the breezes and watch cargo ships motor up the Cape Fear River. The bedrooms downstairs are all nicely sized. Full-sized washer and dryer are hugely helpful. The owners provide all the outdoor gear you could ask for - over a dozen beach chairs, bikes (in good working order), boogie boards, crabbing nets... the list goes on! When we experienced a minor maintenance issue upon check-in, the owner had a repairman to the house the very next morning. Terrific communication and commitment to ensuring the stay is a very pleasant one! Highly recommend this home and owner!

Great House in a great little location !!

Just finished up a fantastic week and loved the house. The lay out is perfect and the house is well kept and clean. We spent mornings and evenings on the screened porch that has fantastic views and a cool breeze. It’s in a great location as it’s right across the street from West beach and extremely close to BHI. It’s also a very quite and private area. Susan (the owner) is super responsive and very pleasant to deal with.

Awesome getaway for our family!

Thanks for a great few days at BHI! The house exceeded our expectations and allowed us to spend quality time together and make many new memories. Even with a couple of rainy and windy hours we enjoyed watching the storm roll through and played board games, etc. We appreciated how well appointed the house was, but most of all the screened porch and awesome views in all directions of the island. We’ve always loved BHI, and will certainly be back soon!

Thank you for an incredibly wonderful and relaxing getaway at second wind in Bald Head island. Your home provided just the atmosphere we were looking for. Perfect Summer Vacation

We had absolutely the best week!! Everything was absolutely perfect! The house was very well equipped and everything WORKED...which is a huge plus when you are renting...I have not always had that be the case. The beds and linens were very comfortable which is also a huge plus in a rental and when you are vacation! The house was very clean and the porch was so incredibly comfortable to sit on and enjoy that gorgeous view. We loved sitting back a little from the road but also be able to see the ocean and activity below. We enjoyed the board games as well as the sound system- big plus to the house for us! You were wonderful to work with and I will definitely be in touch to rent again! THANK YOU!

We live in Raleigh and enjoy the cottage ourselves at least one weekend or week per month, so we are far from "absentee landlords." Because we stay here regularly, we stay on top of the small details and maintenance that can arise during a busy summer season. Our cleaning team is exceptional and keeps the house beautiful. We are only a phone call away and have many friends and neighbors on the island to ensure everything is perfect for your stay.

Why they chose this property

We vacationed at many North Carolina beaches before settling on Bald Head Island. At other beaches, we found ourselves spending half our time in hot cars heading to the store or restaurants along crowded roadways. At Bald Head, riding in the golf carts along quiet streets shared by bicycles and rollerbladers is half the fun.

We selected the location for our cottage, 'Second Wind,' because of the incredible ocean views and the privacy of our oversized lot. We have views looking down Water Thrush Court to the ocean, yet because we are on a quiet cul-de-sac, there is virtually no road noise.

The proximity to the BHI Club is a huge plus—we often walk there for the pool, golf, the athletic center, or dinner. We especially love grabbing take-out from Horizons to eat on our screened-in porch or at the indoor dining table while watching the ships go by or the sun go down.

Our long, deep porches are the best feature of the house! We specifically built Second Wind for family gatherings; the layout is designed so that two families can enjoy the island together, featuring two master suites each with a king bed and private bath. We’ve spent many wonderful long weekends here with friends and family, and we hope you do the same.

What makes this property unique

The porches are easily the best feature of our house! We practically live on them in the summer, and we think you will too. The upper-level views are incredible, with upholstered furnishings that allow you to while away the hours in comfort. The screened-in porch with its paddle fan and outdoor sound system lets you stay outside late into the night without the bugs. 'Second Wind' also features two spacious master suites with king beds and pillow-top mattresses, ensuring everyone has a private, comfortable retreat. Because of our oversized lot, you have the rare island luxury of space and privacy to truly relax.
