Good communication with host prior to trip, the accommodation was modern and comfortable. The location is very quiet which suited us and we were able to enjoy a relaxing few days.
The property was in good condition, an ideal location with a short walk to the beach and coastal path, parking and very good value. It was well equipped and the owner was helpful at all times for our trip, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
A lovely base for a long weekend. Absolutely stunning location, the cove is just at the end of the road. The accommodation had everything we needed and the beds were very comfy. The owner was quick to communicate when asked a question and provided all the information needed. Would love to come back and stay again.
Overall, good, as mentioned to the owner, a little more care is required with regard cleaning, on the surface all good. Only when prompted through Vrbo did i get as response from the owner, as the time frame was getting very close as to when i would be staying. but after that all ok. Overall an excellent location, and would stay there again !

The property is compact but mostly has what you need. (Worth noting that towels are not provided - we had to go back to Kingsbridge to buy some...). It would be useful to have some more information in the flat about where things are (e.g. cutlery!) and how things work, but the owner was very helpful when we contacted him. The house is well located for hiking on the coast path, and it's handy being able to leave the car at the house. Hope is a pretty village, but has only one pub which gets very busy, and only one very small shop.
The property was clean and the description was accurate. We were not provided with an exact address, just the road, and as there was no phone signal, could not contact the host for information on arrival. So we had to drive slowly along the road until we found it. Also, no information provided regarding bin days, recycling or appliances. We had a lovely stay and when the electricity tripped when a bulb blew the host did reply quickly when we contacted him.Hope Cove is gorgeous and we were blessed with the weather.
Fern Lodge is in desperate need of referbishment. also the cleaning is awful, as soon as you get there, you have to walk through dead leaves and litter in the lower step. the sofa has toys stuffed at the back and cardboard boxes under the sofa, sweet wrapers under the tv and when it rains the window cill floods with water. The carpet strip between the hall and bathroom is not secured down, so it just floats around. The small bedroom space is taken up by a vacuum cleaner sprawing on the floor.

Great location but we were expecting more from the property for the price we have paid.
The house was smaller than anticipated, there was a (working) washing machine but no rack nor place to dry clothes. Before use, we washed the pots and pans because they were still sticky.
Overall it was an “ok-“property but
Clean but inadequate:TV didn't work ,only for games, no aerial no signalLandline didnt work either no intwrnet network no means of communicationOven dirty overflowing ice box in fridge. No info re hot water or appliances, as to how they work etcNo emergency info - doctors , area etc.( all the self catering Plaxes we've used had this)Outside shabby not sufficient crockery , bird poo on the chair outside. No storage apart from under the beds.Needs a review by Vrbo ingently. However ,we made the most of it as the property was clean
Communication with host was good which made the check in process easy. Lovely little place which had everything you need. Lots of hot water, and comfort. Location ideal for walks from the property and several beaches to choose from.
A very comfortable small property ideal fora family. Warm, clean and well equipped and excellent direct communication with the owner. Brilliant location and parking.

Disappointing
On the first night of our stay our son woke up coughing and was very wheezy, he is asthmatic and needed to have his inhaler a few times. We inspected the kids room and found quite a lot of mould so decided to move his mattress to the living room area for him to sleep which worked. There was mould in other random areas aswel like around windows and the door wiper for the shower.
The washing machine draw and lining inside the drum was filthy and we needed to clean it thoroughly before using it. Some of the wooden furniture could do with being updated as it is badly chipped as are most of the plates and bowls stored in the cupboard. The cups and glasses were fine though.
On our last night at the property I noticed a sticker on the fire blanket box in the kitchen which shows when the fire equipment inside the property has been serviced. (There were 2 fire extinguishers aswel) the sticker showed it had last been serviced in 2011 and was due to be serviced again in 2016 but it wasn't. When speaking to the host about this he said he had them checked a couple of months ago. There should be a signature and a date on the sticker to assure guests that they are safe I'm pretty sure it needs to be done annually.
After seeing this it led me to want to check the smoke alarm which I did. It didn't work! I tried multiple times to do a test sound but it wouldn't go off. We were leaving the next day in the morning so I thought I will discuss this with the host when we are back home.
While we were staying in the property we accidentally caused some damage to an air vent which I discussed with the host along with my complaints. I apologised for the damage and for causing any upset and said we would pay for the damage but didn't receive one apology for anything I had complained about only excuses and accusing me of using my list of complaints to divert his attention from the damage we caused. When I explained that I didn't feel it was worth the full amount we paid and could it be discounted in any way I didn't receive a reply.
The location was lovely but the property, we feel, was not worth the price we paid.

Lovely Holiday
Hope Cove is a great location , we kayaked, surfed and walked.
The flat was in a good location close to beach and pubs.
The nautical theme to the decor was a nice touch, and there was a great view from the lounge.
The shower and cubicle is in need of updating, and the flat does feel a bit damp.
On the whole we had a good stay.
Thank you

lovely close location to Hope Cove.
Location perfect for walking to Hope Cove so was great to go out for an evening meal and walk back. Designated parking space ideal for small to moderate car sizes as refuse bins are next to it. We didn't do any cooking as the local Cove Café and Cottage Hotel is so good for food and we were just on a 3 night break. The apartment is nicely styled in a coastal theme and we slept well. We accepted the limited space around the bed as seen in photographs. The electric shower was fine but feel some updates in this shower room would be beneficial to help with drying towels and to prevent some chrome items from discolouring. Overall we had a wonderful short break in a beautiful area and enjoyed our stay in this apartment , we would definitely come back and stay here again.

Great compact property perfectly located for the beautiful beaches at Hope Cove
We really enjoyed our stay here and the short walk to the lovely beaches and pubs was an enjoyable one. Downhill was all about beautiful views and the uphill always a decent work out.
The house was well kitted out and we all slept well throughout. The boys particularly enjoyed the shower which was so needed after a days beach activity. The property is perfect for families with young children and the playstation was very well recieved while dinner cooked and us grown ups enjoyed a glass of wine.
All of the cutlery, plates and glasses are there along with a good selection of pans and other cooking requirements that you might need during your stay. Storage is adequate for the week that we stayed though a little extra in the children’s room would have been welcome. The area is just stunning with a large number of excellent beaches within easy driving distances. The beaches at Hope Cove were great and really safe for all activities.
We ate at The Cove Bar in the village and this was excellent and the local shop had everything you might need with main supermarkets at Kingsbridge a short drive away. A well stocked Coop and petrol station are nearby on the drive to Kingsbridge.
A fine house in a great location for a really wonderful beach holiday.

About the host
Hosted by Nick Geehan
After years of staying in Hotels, I bought the apartment in 2017 as base to use when I'm in Devon visiting my Son.
Having spent years travelling down to the South Hams, I knew Hope Cove was where I wanted to be, so when the apartment came up for sale, I had to have it !
I immediately set about redecorating it from top to bottom, and improving the apartment, making it the comfortable and well-equipped little place it now is.
Why they chose this property
Hope Cove, along with the nearby sailing Mecca of Salcombe, is THE most requested location in all of South Devon. This apartment offers accommodation just minutes walk from the centre of the stunning seaside village of Hope Cove, with its two sandy beaches, and fantastic Bar and Pub.
The Hope Cove Big Weekend on the August bank holiday weekend is brilliant fun for the whole family, with beach games, raft, kayak and swimming races, together with evening live music and beer festivals. Be quick to book this weekend!
The Cove Bar, just 3 minutes walk away, is wonderful, with incredible quality and value food and local craft beers, together with all the major sport shown in the new upstairs bar with its great new balcony. The Bar also offers regular live music, showcasing the best local talent.
The South West Coast Path is 200 metres away at the end of the road - it's a walker's paradise with incredible coastal walks on the doorstep!
Head west for the beautiful beach at South Milton Sands, with its amazing beachfront restaurant, and beyond to the village of Thurlestone with its smart hotel, pub and renowned links golf course.
Head East for stunning Bolberry Down with a brand new cliff-top restaurant and beyond to Salcombe and all it has to offer.
What makes this property unique
You'll struggle to to find such a fantastically located property with parking in Hope Cove for this budget.
