The neighbourhood

Tim And Lucy’s home is located in Suffolk, England, United Kingdom.
Southwold is a picturesque seaside market-town (market-days: Monday and Thursday) on the East Suffolk Coast. Southwold is a beautiful English seaside town, set in a time warp and preserved perfectly.

Southwold's main attractions are the working lighthouse, the Adnams brewery (with tours), the awesome pier with bygone slot and amusement machines.

Thimble cottage is set right on Southwold's vibrant high street, where there are a number of interesting quaint shops to browse around plus those catering for all essentials – including... a newsagents; a bakers – selling bread and cakes baked here in the town; a stationers – also selling a good range of postcards with local scenes; a pharmacy; a traditional butchers shop - selling locally- reared meat and hand-made sausages and pies; two bookshops – both stock a range of local maps and guide books; an old-fashioned antique dealer shop (with yarns galore!); two hairdressers; a traditional barber-shop; a florist; a hardware shop (which also sells sacks of logs & kindling for the fire); one bank (Barclays – with 24hr cashpoint) and a building society.

Southwold has its own Museum and two small art galleries – with regular exhibitions by local artists (including some very well-known artists, such as Maggi Hambling).

Southwold offers loads of great places to eat out such as "The Sole Bay Co", "The Sail loft","'Coasters" and the Adnams' Swan and Crown hotels. For fun you can take a blast on the Rib 'Coastal voyager' along the coastline.

If you take a small ride on the ferry you'll arrive to Walberswick, where there is a more relaxed pastime - crabbing from the harbour in Walberswick. (bucket, line and smoked bacon needed).

Southwold also offers loads of walking and cycling opportunities.

Notable events are the:

• Christmas Swim and the New year fireworks on the beach.
• The Adnams 10k run each year.
• Southwold arts festival in June.

A little gem of a cottage
We had a lovely 5 night stay at Thimble Cottage. Aptly named, it's a fabulously tiny gem in the heart of Southwold. We are a family of 4 (kids 11 and 13) and the property worked brilliantly for us. It is small, there's no doubting why it is called Thimble Cottage, but it suited us - three very useable bedrooms, a newly done bathroom with shower and a more than adequate kitchen lounge space. Lots of nice touches and well equipped. Our of the door onto the High Street with its eclectic mix of lovely shops and eateries....and the Adnams Brewery's subtle influence. Oh and it's just 5 mins or so to the beach and less than a minute to the common. A great first trip to Southwold. Lucy and Tim were great hosts - nice touches on our arrival and very easy to deal with, thank you. Definitely a returner for us.

Hello,

We are Tim and Lucy and we live on the stunning Suffolk Heritage Coast with our son Jack. We have been successfully letting our cottages: Stable cottage in Saxmundham, Arwen cottage (just a stone's throw from the beach) in Aldeburgh and Thimble cottage in Southwold via our companies Aldeburgh Seaside Cottages and Southwold Seaside Cottages. All our properties are self-catering and advertise on the Owners Direct website. We are thrilled to have met such interesting people and received such lovely feedback for it.

Tim was born and bred in beautiful Suffolk and I was born in Lima-Peru and brought up in Milan-Italy. I speak Spanish, Italian, French, German and English. As my husband’s family is from Suffolk we have strong ties with this beautiful part of the world. Having travelled extensively we have been inspired by the good things we have come across in properties we have stayed in. As you can tell, we are passionate about providing somewhere special that our guests will love, enjoy and return to.

We feel incredibly lucky to be able to live in this part of the world and are loving sharing our cottages with some amazing people from the Owners Direct community. If we had a motto to live by it would have to be Maya Angelou's: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style...”
