About this property

Beautiful Riverside Getaway

We are happy to have opened our home back up for your enjoyment and will continue to adjust our policies as needed to assure the best experience for you, our guest. Due to a shortage of employees, from time to time we may need to remove our instant booking option so that we can guarantee availability of cleaning staff between our reservations. Thank you for your patience during the reservation process and for your continued support. We look forward to hosting you.

This beautiful 2BR/3BA home has an open floor plan and full service kitchen which makes it perfect for a couples' getaway or family fun-filled vacation. The large yet cozy great room includes the kitchen, dining area and den with stone fireplace (gas) and plenty of seating. There is a beautiful view of the river out of the large picture windows. The wrap around deck has outdoor seating and overlooks the Watauga River with its out-cropping of rocks and abundant wildlife.
Two master bedroom suites, each with queen beds and their own large private baths, sleep 4 adults comfortably. The living room also has a queen size sleeper couch.

For security purposes we have three exterior security cameras - one covering each entrance to the house.

Lovely Mountain Home

House was great and had all the amenities you need for a short stay. Location is great- close to downtown Banner Elk, Sugar Mountain, Hawksnest and Mast General Store. River out back was lovely to watch and even with snow on the ground it was easy to walk down to the edge of it. Communication with host was prompt and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Peaceful getaway

Wonderful place

We loved our recent stay for a long weekend. House had everything-including a Keurig! The rooms were large and had a wonderful view of the river. We enjoyed seeing the deer play in the river each morning. We will definitely be back

Beautiful stay

Hearing the river with the rapids at night was a lovely experience! It is a nice property and convenient compared to some of the places we rented in this location! Driveway is a bit tricky. The Property manager was very pleasant and helpful! The kitchen was very guest friendly and basic amenities were there! I would rent this home again!

Lovely home with all the comforts of home. Great beds and linens and plush towels! The soothing sounds of the river can be enjoyed from the decks or inside the house. Dealing with Tamara was a pleasure. She was very helpful and did everything she could to make our stay enjoyable! We definitely plan to return!

Mountain Getaway

We had a great stay at this property and we were very pleased with the property manager and the excellent communication. We enjoyed the peace and quiet this beautiful property has to offer. Snow or no snow, 4wd is definitely recommended for the steep driveway. It was definitely much easier to manage with 4wd. Our family of 4 highly recommends this property for a mountain getaway.

Clean and gorgeous

Probably the cleanest rental home we've ever stayed in. It had all the amenities we needed for our short stay and the owner was easy to contact when we had a problem (it got so cold before we go there that the pump froze, so a handyman came out late at night and fixed it for us...that's good service!). The view was excellent and we enjoyed having two master suites. Just perfect.

Great River Fun!

We had a great time at this riverside property. The accommodations were excellent and the river provided a lot of fun and relaxation. The only drawback was unloading your vehicle on that down sloping hill. I figured we would have access to the door at the bottom of the house but that was not the case. In any event this didn't affect our visit in the least. We look forward to returning next spring/summer.

Excellent with a few little kinks

The property is really lovely. I will bear in mind that we were the first guests the owners had after Hurricane Helene so I am assuming that most of the little things were not noted prior to our arrival due to the break in action and just dealing with the larger issues of storm damage etc. The upstairs/bedroom TVs did not function and the alarm on the door had some setting issues that were a bit annoying, the dishwasher was not unloaded before we got there. But these are minor housekeeping issues that I am certain are normally tended to. Generally, the place is lovely, the views from the very large deck and super comfortable Adirondack styled dining and seating areas were truly beautiful with the River rapids right at our feet. Location was super convenient and overall just a a very pleasant stay. We had tix to the App game and had a day of hiking planned but truly, as enjoyable as both those things were, it was hard to leave that deck and that view for the day after Breakfast! The living area and entertainment space is HUGE for only a two bedroom house. Great value, beautiful home!

We stayed at this house when we came up to visit my son for ASU’s family weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The house is only about 15 minutes from campus, so it’s quite convenient. The house is large (but cozy), has comfortable furniture, and has the most amazing view/access to the Watauga River. It reminded me of a quaint bed and breakfast. The house was well-labeled to explain things such as how to lock the doors, how to work the heating and cooling, and all light switches are labeled. I thought this was a very helpful touch. All the instructions and descriptions on the listing were accurate. 2 things to be aware of: a few starter items are provided (dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent pods, hand soap in bathrooms), but no bathroom toiletries (shampoo, soap/body wash) are provided. Not a big deal, just something to know when you are packing. The other thing to know is that trash has to be carried out to the can outside that has to be locked up. When we went to throw trash out, the can was completely full, so we had to just bring our trash with us and dispose of it on our own. It was slightly inconvenient but not a huge deal. We really loved our stay at this house and highly recommend staying here!

Riverfront dream!

Such a great experience for a small family. We have a 5 year old son and having a separate room directly down the hall with his own bathroom was perfect! The view of the river from almost every room in the house was magical. The house was extremely clean and well maintained. I don’t have one bad thing to say about the house only positives!

My name is Tamara DePace and I manage RiverPlace for my mother, Doris Freeze. This beautiful piece of land on the banks of the Watauga River in Valle Crucis was originally owned by my grandparents. My mother vacationed here when she was a little girl. I remember hearing stories of her and her 6 brother and sisters playing on the rocks in the river. Throughout my childhood, I recall my parents dreaming and planning the house they would one day build on the land. Twenty-five years later they built their "dream home" on the river. RiverPlace was intended to be their retirement home, much deserved after a lifetime of service to the church. My parents had spent their life serving on the mission field in Liberia, West Africa, and when stateside, my dad worked for the Lutheran Church as the director of a church camp and at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia SC.

In 2009, after a short battle with cancer, my dad passed away, only getting to enjoy their "dream home" for a short time. Mom, not able to live on her own 4 hours away from the rest of the family, decided to allow other families to enjoy her home and hopefully make their own memories on the banks of the Watauga River.

I guess I took after my grandmother, as I now have seven children of my own. I hope one day they will look back at their childhood and reminisce about their vacations at the "mountain house". It is our hope that you and your family will also.
