About this property

Beautiful Riverside Getaway

We are happy to have opened our home back up for your enjoyment and will continue to adjust our policies as needed to assure the best experience for you, our guest. Due to a shortage of employees, from time to time we may need to remove our instant booking option so that we can guarantee availability of cleaning staff between our reservations. Thank you for your patience during the reservation process and for your continued support. We look forward to hosting you.

This beautiful 2BR/3BA home has an open floor plan and full service kitchen which makes it perfect for a couples' getaway or family fun-filled vacation. The large yet cozy great room includes the kitchen, dining area and den with stone fireplace (gas) and plenty of seating. There is a beautiful view of the river out of the large picture windows. The wrap around deck has outdoor seating and overlooks the Watauga River with its out-cropping of rocks and abundant wildlife.
Two master bedroom suites, each with queen beds and their own large private baths, sleep 4 adults comfortably. The living room also has a queen size sleeper couch.

For security purposes we have three exterior security cameras - one covering each entrance to the house.

Listed for half of what the final payment was. After all of the made up fees it basically doubled the cost per night. Light bulbs out in dinning room. Someone left dog poop right of front entrance. I don’t like cameras on me when I’m on the deck enjoying myself either. The place is dated.Very close to the road. Not worth the price. Won’t be back. The one positive was nice view of the Watauga river close to Boone and Mast General store.

I am so sorry you were not pleased with your stay. I wish you had let me know while at the home so I could have tried to make right any issues you had. I would like to respond to a couple of things you mentioned. First, any fees are disclosed prior to booking. We do not control the reservation fees VRBO charges, however I do understand the are running a business and it cost them to maintain their site. As owners, we pay to use the site to market our properties, but I do realize that their additional fees add up. Other fees like taxes, cleaning and the optional damage insurance are pass through charges. The only money we receive is the rental portion. Thank you for letting me know we have a light bulb out. I will make sure our cleaning crew takes care of that. As far as the dog poop, I am so sorry about that. Unfortunately not all pet owners do as required and pick up after their dogs. I will make sure that is picked up. As for the cameras, I promise we do not watch our guests. The cameras are there to protect the property when it is not occupied. There are cameras located at each entrance of the house as security. I truly wish we had no need for this, but in the world we live in that is unfortunately not the case. As far as our home being dated, it was built in 2007. We strive to maintain it and make it a home away from home for our guests. I do realize people's styles are different and we cannot please everyone. I truly hope you find something you are happy with the next time to travel to our beautiful Appalachian mountains. This is the most beautiful house sitting next to the river multiple decks on the outside one on each master suite with a fireplace open floor plan great stock in the kitchen. Everything‘s always clean. Everything is always on point. You don’t need for anything except to come, bring your clothes and enjoy! Best hostess ever there for any questions which are only one or two, and if you go to relaxation recommend it to anyone.

Mountain getaway

The house was awesome, very clean with a location and view that were incredible. We enjoyed our stay and have already booked it again in November. The owner was great to work with and really helped us out when Hurricane Florence almost ruined our travel plans.

My name is Tamara DePace and I manage RiverPlace for my mother, Doris Freeze. This beautiful piece of land on the banks of the Watauga River in Valle Crucis was originally owned by my grandparents. My mother vacationed here when she was a little girl. I remember hearing stories of her and her 6 brother and sisters playing on the rocks in the river. Throughout my childhood, I recall my parents dreaming and planning the house they would one day build on the land. Twenty-five years later they built their "dream home" on the river. RiverPlace was intended to be their retirement home, much deserved after a lifetime of service to the church. My parents had spent their life serving on the mission field in Liberia, West Africa, and when stateside, my dad worked for the Lutheran Church as the director of a church camp and at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia SC.

In 2009, after a short battle with cancer, my dad passed away, only getting to enjoy their "dream home" for a short time. Mom, not able to live on her own 4 hours away from the rest of the family, decided to allow other families to enjoy her home and hopefully make their own memories on the banks of the Watauga River.

I guess I took after my grandmother, as I now have seven children of my own. I hope one day they will look back at their childhood and reminisce about their vacations at the "mountain house". It is our hope that you and your family will also.
